Sugarlessllama
The first Blood Angels omnibus. Carach
bunch of stuff in the really old codexes (the one with the Crimson Fists doing their last stand jazz on the front) but from BL was Kill Team That book gets the space marine vibe down perfectly. Perry
Storm of Iron, bought it for £1 from a Black Library sale on their website. Still one of my favourite BL books. Nemisor
As R_F_D mentioned, the first book i ever read was Pawns of Chaos by Brian Craig. I borrowed it off a mate who has since moved country's and am currently trying to find a new copy. bluntblade
Battle of the Fang. Was bummed out after The Road and asked fiends for recommendations of something pulpy. Was much better than I'd expected... and left me rather bummed out at the end. Splog
Wolf Riders I've only got a hazy memory of it though. Very much pre Black Library. Knockagh
Does Rogue Trader the rule book count? At the time it was the most awesome book ever. I can remember sitting in my bedroom just staring for ages at the pictures. The universe it described was so amazing it still has me captivated 27 years later, much to my wife's amusement! Slot of novels followed I can only remember Space Marine from the early years but can't be sure it was my first Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332265-the-first-bl-book-you-ever-read/page/2/#findComment-4693716 Share on other sites

mc warhammer
predictably it was horus rising if we're talking black library specifically. otherwise, i read space marine when i was a kid and kinda loved it and felt sick at the same time. Felix Antipodes
The WFB and W40K books from Boxtree led me BL when it started up and I have read nearly everything they put out since. Yep, even the 'crap' ones. The first was either Ian Watson's Space Marine or Jack Yeovil's Geniveve novel. R_F_D
I should probably clarify that I meant first bit of fiction associated with the Games workshop "brands", Black Library being a catchall term. Mellow
inquisition War was my first Novel. Followed by the Eisenhorn trilogy. Now that must have been an interesting compare and contrast in inquisition styles! I thought both were good at capturing the detail of "normal" every day life in the Imperium. All that ordinary stuff can be far more interesting than hearing about some over powered hero taking on a horde of something and winning. Fire Golem
It was a short story collection, I can't remember it's name now (blood something, something of blood maybe). The story I remember was about Catachans fighting Orks and taking their eyes I think. It was in the local library. theinstantcrippler
Horus Rising. I know..went too deep too fast. I actually got into WH40k after having played Dawn of War and then i read up on some fluff (lexicanum) and artwork. And the first book i readily found was Horus Rising. been stuck with it since. R_F_D
It is really interesting to see what everyone's hook was! It seems strange to me as someone who read White Dwarf and knew the background to think of the HH as a person's entrance to the world. In a way I am quite envious of starting on the journey blind and having no knowledge of what is to happen!
