Shadow War: Armageddon, Chaos factions

Recommended Posts

Thinking of MoK bolter marines, gets you the benefit of extra attacks in CC without sacrificing ranged firepower so you can pop off shots until you get in charge range.

Or take a Bolt Pistole so you get even more attacks. You want to be close enough for pistols anyway. :P

This is looking like the perfect opportunity to kitbash a bunch of crazy stuff and try out some color schemes before I commit to what to do with all my BaC and BoP marines, DV chaos, Aos Khorne dudes and the box of old Warhammer Forsaken I just scored on eBay...

I was a big fan of flails back in necromunda don't underestimate not being able to be parried in close combat.

I'd go with something like chainsword and bolt pistol on the leader and have him roll with a pair of cultists, one with flail and autopistol and the other with pistol and club.

Then a specialist with flamer, backed up by a cultist with autogun and a cultist with pistol and knife.

Then fill up with bolter Marines and BP/chainsword Marines with either a shooty or fighty cultist sacrifice each.

Then upgrade leader and the rest of the squad's gear with rearm points as you go throughout campaign. (giving the flamer guy a sidearm would be a priority for example)

As for spec ops I'd be tempted by the raptor as jump packing about a multi level board is going to be quite handy for getting the drop on some unsuspecting heavy weapon types.

It would be awesome if we got a cult troop DLC as I'd love a team of plague marines, maybe in the new death guard book and newer faction books we may see additional rules for more specialised legion teams

Still kinda sad possessed arnt in it :(

Just remembered, can't have more than 50% New Recruits (Cultists). Need to refigure list.

Really? Where does it say that? First time hearing such a rule. The only thing I know is that if your Leader dies and you have nothing but New Recruits your team automatically disbands.

Which would be kinda impossible with 50% New Recruits max. ^^

I apologize, I don't have the book in front of me but I believe the second page of the Creating a Kill steam section mentions only 1 Leader, only 2 Specialists unless Faction list says otherwise, and no more than 50% New Recruits.

Ah okay, I have only a pic of the first page unfortunately.

Chaos has lots of good options. Even a Spawn is interesting. Lots of flexibility in the list making. It looks like marks are 'free' which surprises me. Typically playing Thousand Sons I was thinking of doing Black Legion (mixed marks) for this but there are so many modifiers that I am thinking the Tzeentch 5++ Invuln is actually quite big.

I think I'm going to build up a 5 man kill team (all 5 different Marks) with the Leader being the Undivided one. Just gotta decide which one to leave out at first. 4 Marines is my maximum I can fit in a list if I want to have at least one big gun. Too bad you can't promote a Trooper to a Specialist later on. :/

Oh and I would have to decide on a color scheme for the Undivided one...probably the hardest task even lol

Edit: mmh forgot that I can simply buy the Specialist a fancy gun after the first match if I have enough points...

I think my list will look something like this:

Aspiring Champion

Mark of Undivided

Bolt Pistol

Plasma Pistol

Camo Gear

= 305p

Chaos Space Marine

Mark of Khorne

Chainsword

= 145p

Chaos Space Marine

Mark of Slaanesh

Bolt Pistol

Assault blade

= 160p

Chaos Space Marine

Mark of Tzeentch

Boltgun

Inferno bolts

= 180p

Chaos Gunner

Mark of Nurgle

Flamer

Blight Grenade

= 205

== 995p

Keep in mind that everyone has a combat blade by default so the Khorne guy actually has two melee weapons. ;)

You could make a real motley crew of that kind of squad. A Black Legion dude, a few red Zerkers, and a Rubric with a bolter, plus a Deathguard with your flamer. That could be a very fun modeling/painting opportunity.

And a good excuse to collect at least a little bit of all the fancy new legion models that are hopefully coming during the next 1-2 years. :D

For a World Eaters kill team I'm looking at:

Apriring Champ-

MoK

Chainsword/knife

250

CSM-

MoK

Bolter

155

CSM-

MoK

Bolter

155

CSM-

MoK

Bolter

155

Gunner-

MoK

Autocannon

Camo gear

285

Exactly 1,000pts. Lets me charge anything that likes to shoot, and shoot anything that likes to charge right out of the box. Plan to dump points into cultists as I earn them. Alternatively, I could get 7-8 power armored bodies with dual knives and hand out bolters later on.

I'm almost certainly better off marking the gunner something else but that wouldn't be very fluffy now, would it...

So, forgive me if I've missed it, but are the basic rules of Armageddon posted anywhere? I have already downloaded the kill team rules for the additional races, but without the main ruleset, I don't see the point of reading through the killteam pdf.
