Solrac
Im interested to know if the Primaris will get something on the Dark Angel colour scheme to make them stand out (Gold Trim pads for example). I know I can do what I want but curious from a fluff perspective. plasmaspam
Guys, while there's enthusiasm about new edition we can't forget this is the DA forum and if we're not discussing DA related news of the 8th, there is a thread ( several in fact)in news and rumors section for general discussion. So let's keep this DA related. Agreed. I, for one, am very interested to know how the Dark Angels will justify inducting Primaris marines into the chapter, from a lore perspective. These are Roboute's creations, the guy who literally wrote the codex. How will these new children of the Emperor react to the dark secret the Inner Circle harbors? Ezz A new and separate chapter maybe? that's where my thoughts are drifting towards at the moment if i decide to pick them up. Guest
OK correct me if I am wrong did we not just lose the 4th Company on Cadia? Whole Company incoming? Guest
Serious note, every codex we miss out on a lot of stuff that we should have by default. Anti Air Tanks, Centurions, Standard Marine Flyers. I know some might not 100% agree especially the Centurions. But it comes to one point.. Why should we miss out? We are not idiots, we have our ways, the Primaris will learn or die. Bryan Blaire
Even the Primaris Marines created by the Lion's geneseed from Guilliman would be accepted into the Dark Angels, once all the proper forms were used. Seriously, the Unforgiven have the ability to read minds and wipe them a la the Librarius, and can reprogram them via Unforgiven hypnoindoctrination and the Legion cult. It's not like there are no options or reasons to immediately distrust them any more than that distrust would extend to a new Unforgiven Chapter from a Founding - those guys are called up by the High Lords, who wouldn't mistrust them until they prove themselves. The only reason Techmarines are distrusted is because of their on-going dual loyalty, not because they had some other loyalty at some point. The Primaris Dark Angels wouldn't have that once properly dealt with. You can't really go mind-wiping the Techmarines or you lose the entirety of their worth. People are making up some silly and internally illogical excuses to just see the Primaris as something unacceptable. Bryan Blaire
Well, new Chapters of Unforgiven have sprung forth from somewhere and I'm sure they are equally distrusted for a time. And then they are accepted and given a place at the adults' table. The same should happen here. Plus the Lion was cold and collected and used logic, right up until he raged and lost his mind. I'm still in the first stage, many are too quick to jump to the second to be true Sons of the Lion. Planning for change is good tactics and strategy. One always must play the long game and adapt. Interrogator Stobz
I agree Mate, I am only against the idea of buying new toys (the semi-obsolescence thought bugs me in the long run but I'll cope). There is always going to be a type/stream/line of fluff-logic that allows the introduction of new stuff in a setting this big and over the time it covers. And here they are :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332946-da-8th-edition-info/page/11/#findComment-4754961 Share on other sites
Cpt. Bannockburn
Personally, I like the models (apart from the weird jump troops). They look great, and heroic, and I'll withhold final judgement until I've had a chance to hold them and assess them for their modelling capabilities and what the sprues contain.I will surely buy the boxed set, and paint those guys green, no questions asked. What I dislike is that the fluff surrounding them seems lazy to me. For one thing, the whole setting hinges around the fact that mankind is incapable of innovation (compare: too much chaos -> spawnwarbarghl; too much "perfection" -> stagnation) or even maintaining the cool tech. Older is better in the established background. So how come that this suddenly changes? Alright, it's taken ten millennia, and there are some good points to be made for the gene-crafting (see: Raven Guard Raptors, Canis Helix shenanigans ended by the invasion of Fenris in M32, etc), but it still galls me. Everything else went backwards during that time, so I don't see why this should be different. Secondly, I like the return of the Primarch, but! consider the source of those Primaris Marines a bit closer. Guilliman is the author of the Codex Astartes. It seems really out of character for him to have already planned to make it obsolete 10.000 years ago, when it was still fresh. And that is basically what he does, by mass-producing bigger, better, faster, stronger marines, not to mention their specialised kits compared to the allrounder tactical squad. Now consider the circumstances of his return. He was accompanied by a Xenos witch, who purportedly had something crucial to do with his revival. Moreover, he was accompanied by Cypher himself (weak writing for him in that book aside), and allowed him to set foot on Terra, almost letting him into the Throne room. From an in-universe perspective it doesn't seem unreasonable to suspect shenanigans here. Guilliman should have a bunch of inquisitors on his case. From an out-of-universe perspective, I cannot help myself but cough snidely about the quote "Classic Guilliman, playing the long game with this ace up his power-armoured sleeve the whole time he was in stasis." That is not writing. That is basically "Here's some stuff we just made up to thinly disguise the fact that we pulled a deus ex machina". In conclusion, I think that they should have just brought out the new kits, without the better stats or the poor justification for said stat blocks. "Here's a Mark X armor" is reasonable. After all, there have been better power armor marks since the heresy. I don't see a need or reason for making the Primaris Marines better at all. Now what I do like is the fact that all chapters seem to get the same toys + specific extras, as well as the decision to make "normal" marines upgradeable. However that will work. The answer is, of course: "Fine, thank you for asking." Guest
Well the Codex was just guidelines, the dogmatic approach to it is why the Ultramarines are no longer the opitimy of it. Guilliman did not want it followed blindly. of the kits SM have i would like just AA tanks and SR as flying transport we dont need centurions BTW Well I did want them... Which one of us is right? Opinions man... You DON'T want them. If someone wanted pure Greenwing, Centurions would be a good support unit. Master Sheol
Devastators in 8th edition will be better than Centurions Cool share the info you know....Heavy weapons now have just -1 to hit when moving and not 6+ to hit like nowThis will make less important the move and shoot full BS of the Centurions Now a SM in cover has a 2+ save and there is no more the armour denying AP but just armour modifiers so Devastators have better armour than now With the new to wound table S5-7 Attacks only wound a SM on 3+ instead on 2+ and this make Devastators more durable A Devastator Squad has up to 6 ablative wounds so before you start to lose the heavy weapons you have to suffer 7 wounds Centurions dont have ablative wounds and each two wounds you suffer you gave to remove one Centurion (you must give all the wounds you receive to one model until it dies and then you start to give wounds to another model) Of you want to add more protection to devastators you can embark them in a rhino or razorback while Centurions can only take the more costy LR Devastators have access to drop pods sp They can be deployed nearer to the enemy if you need this way Devastators have a wider weapon choice than centurions Centurion models are really ugly while devastators are beautiful Edited May 26, 2017 by Master Sheol Ezzeran 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332946-da-8th-edition-info/page/11/#findComment-4755221 Share on other sites
