hopes, dreams, and fears for sisters in 8th

I'll run the sisters because I have a surplus of rhino chassis, and the guard because I've wanted to run a guard army since I joined the US Army in 2001. I'd like to model an artillery battery someday as well, just because it's what I did when I was active duty.

The news today has the rules for "Hellflamers" on a Chaos Forgeworld Dreadnought.  If we want to extrapolate, those might be the same rules as Heavy Flamers in 8th.  So, it's 8" range, D6 hits, S5, AP-1, D2.  Most of that could probably be guessed, but the 2 damage would be nice if we get that on our Heavy Flamers.

If that's actually what heavy flamers are going to look like, that would be a nice buff against multiwound units. On the other hand, it pushes HF further from hoard control toward damaging heavy infantry (which I don't mind)

Would seem more likely to be D1 though - with the hell/frost/warp/inferno/etc prefix weapons just one-upping the regular types.

That's also very possible, A.T., but I was trying to be positive for once.

How dare you try to be positive on a forum section dedicated to the Sisters of Battle.

Positivity is for Space Marines and Eldar players... maybe a few Tau.

In this topic we get sarcastic and maudlin about our army.

I'm pinning my hopes more on either ridiculously powerful faith and/or absurdly cheap units to somehow bridge the gap between the sisters minimalistic armoury and the kind of rules and new units we are seeing from 8th.

Positivity is for ...

... everyone. We should be glad of those new opportunities afforded to us in the new regime. If sisters are Imperial Agents it opens up a whole new host of force development possibilities and distaff counterpart conversion possibilities.

I'm really hoping that we get an <order> faction keyword so I can actually play a Valorous Heart army (and maybe even get maybe 1 unique strategem for it? please?)

I doubt we'll see <Order> based on what we've already seen, but do expect <Imperium>, <Imperial Agent>, and possibly <Ecclastic>. I wouldn't expect it to drill all the way down to specific order in the 'ravening hordes' books due out on release, but as a possibility in the expanded agents handbook due out in the next year or so.

Maybe it is just wishful thinking. I saw that chaos gets <legion> and <chaos mark> so I think there might be a chance. Certainly more likely once we get to the codex phase though, you're right.

And yeah, I am happy we have easier allies now :D (even if I personally will hardly ever make use of them)

We already had those possibilities, it was called Castellans of the Imperium as well as allies in general.

Positivity is fine and dandy, but positivity and trust in GW is a fool's errand.

If guard gets <regiment>, chaos gets both <mark> and <legion>, space Marines <chapter>, Tau get whatever, we should/will probably get <Order>. With, hopefully, Celestine and Veridian getting a static <martyred lady>, much like Helbritch would get a static "Black Templar" or Guilliman "ultramarines"

I wouldn't expect "imperial agents" as a key word, though, as it doesn't really mean anything more than "imperium" key word does.

Also, I'm expecting our Pengins to be brutal in close combat and our exorcists to be brutal at range.

As for troops, I'm expecting them to be identical, but with Faith points instead of AoF, and losing characters and superiors to generate additional ones.

I much prefer AoF over Faith Points; I never liked the idea of you needed to be losing for your army to get stronger -- in fact, that's bad design reminiscent of the original Dragon Clan stronghold from the AEG L5R CCG. That doesn't mean AoF are perfect, however, especially compared to Marks of Chaos and Chapter Tactics.

Idk it would be nice to start with some, and get them back as you lose guys, as a way to keep you in the fight longer.

And youd only have to keep track of how many you have total as opposed to which one of your 6 dominions, 4 bss and hqs have or have not used their AoF.

That being said, I do like the current system a lot, I just don't think we'll keep it, since it isn't a great boon, and some of then are either situational or don't do anything (Rend on a multimelta?)

Exactly. Command Squads should be for escorting their cannonnesses and Retributors heavy weapons.

You should be able to utilize the AoF for all loadouts, otherwise your wasting points somewhere. which is why I think they will change it (Not whether or not I would)

I'd love it if we got rules for different Orders, but I can't really see it happening. I'd be happy with just the fluff fleshing out more for the different orders tbh.

Yeah . . . but I'm pretty sure I don't trust GW enough to want them anywhere near the Sisters fluff.

I don't think most people do, but since they're the source of the fluff we have to let them have it.

At least it's never gotten Star Wars prequels bad.

Having different orders is a bit moot as Sororitas only really differentiate based on their Convent.

Sisters from the Convent Prioris are righteously pious where as the sisters of the Convent Sanctorum or piously righteous.

While that gave me a laugh, I'm pretty sure the differences stem from which of the six saints they try to emmulate.

Or, I can just hope they leave the fluff as is, because what little there is is pretty great, and I'd hate to see it burried under a mountain of what may well (subjectively) be garbage. I'd rather the fluff stay the way it is than trust GW to do something I'd like. Case in point: Celestine. I can't stand the FoC fluff about her. It's not a huge deal, I just pretend it doesn't exist, but I'd prefer I not have to do that for more fluff.

But that's just my opinion based on my personal preferences, and I'm pretty sure I'm firmly off topic now :P

Back on topic: If we don't get an Order keyword, I might draw up, like, 1 unique stratagem for each of the major orders and just for fun.

Don't one of the orders have a lot of Repentia? An order special or a CP point cost to unlock repentia as a troop choice could reflect that. But yes, order keywords would be nice. AFAIK the order do differentiate a bit. Ebony chalice being the salamander equivalents in that they actually care about people; bloody rose being super aggressive; another one being super flaw finding and having a lot of repentia because of it...i don't know where I got these from.

Valorous Heart generally has more Repentia. I'd still not think that justifies Repentia as troops personally though.

It's not like the armies we field are representative of anything in relation to actual fluff. I mean it could be a snapshot of a larger war where your Repentia end up outflanked by some heretics and have to hold the line to protect the main force behind them...
