Hence why the Stormtalon is superior. Give it the loadout of assault cannons and skyhammers and it'll be 2+ to hit anything, depending on your target. The Stormhawk still hits most Tau units on a 3+ or 2+ though, so it's up to you.

Yeah, my only other reason is I think the hawk looks cooler, haha.

The thing is I really try not to tailor my list to fight him, even though he loads up on plasma to kill my marines. Also, my strategy right now consists of a captain and lieutenant bubble so hover mode would be invaluable just to stay within it.

How prevalent are flyers in everyone's meta right now?

Any thoughts on sniper scouts? I'm currently building and painting some more, planning to run a full squad with camo cloaks, 9 sniper rifles and a missile launcher. I was thinking of parking a Captain and Telion next to them so they would be hitting on 2+ and rerolling ones, or just Telion if the Captain is needed elsewhere. 11 sniper shots(including Telion) hitting on 2+ should scare most characters and the missile can shoot other targets. If I can put them in cover, they will have a 2+ save too :)

I haven't my book to hand but I think people are forgetting that the Storm Hawk also fires heavy weapons on the move, incurring a -1 penalty. Against ground targets that's a 5+!

Unless I'm miss remembering.

They are still a good option. I used them also with Telion. This means you can move them and still hit on 3+ instead of 4+. I say give them a try they won't disappoint you.

Nah, it gets +1 to hit things that can Fly, not -1 vs things that can't. So it's 4+ vs most ground targets.

This is correct except the Skyhammer missiles against ground targets are pretty bad. I always use this flyer but use the Typhoon. I really like it's versatility, but otherwise the flyer weapons that have -1 against flyers built into them + the minus 1 built into some weapons... makes this a flyer hunter for sure. But I think the Xyphon Interceptor looks good in 8th.

Had my second game yesterday against Necrons andin round 3 I wiped them out.

We played 35 points

Ultramarines

Librarian

1 Tactical Squad (10 marines, plasma gun, missile launcher)

1 Dev Squad (10 marines, 2 laser, 2 plasma)

1 Stalker + Chronus

Necrons

1 Cryptek

5 Lychguard

5 Detahmarks

10 other elite guys (can't remember the name - 2 wounds and 10" movement or something like that)

So from the list it's pretty obvious that he brought a spoon to a fire fight. He went second and tried to get as fast as possible across the battlefield.

First round saw 2 Necrons from the big squad killed and no casualties on imperial side. I killed the 10 man (or more like robot) squad in second round and his warlord too. He forgot to DS his Deathmarks in round one so the came in the second round and shot at my warlord -  I lost one wound.

In the 3 round I killed his Lychguard and the Deathmarks with my Stalker.

What did I learn:

Missile launcher - wow - they rock!

Smite is awesome!

I wanted to give terminators a try but I couldn't fit them in my list. Next time I guess.

So...

Calgar is 50pts cheaper now.

Sgt Chronus is a BARGAIN 35 points.

Tiggy's Master of Prescience ability can be granted to a unit within 6"

Big Boosts for the Ultras :-D

Can't wait for the Codex.

Not sure about power levels.

Thunderfire Cannons got a boost, they now have -1 rend which is pretty significant.

There a loads of adjustments in the book, some other reductions including Power Fist cost, etc. The Ironclad Dread is 40 points cheaper now for example.

Calgar is a good pick now. Before I couldn't really take him when 100 points extra got you the Primarch.

What sort of drop did power fists get, because that means my Cataphractii just got boosted?

The Stratagems we have access to are amazing. The Ultramarines one themselves, alongside the Wisdom of the Ancients and new, cheap Lieutenants means my style of play just got a boost.

Redemptors are pretty cool now because of the aforementioned combinations above.
