And on that I shall stake the Beginnings of what will become to be known as The Remembrancer Crusade. I had for a while been in the works of Constructing a mounted fighting company of the Black Templars. Having recently acquired the materials for a second fighting company, as well as the launch of 8th edition I am looking to get both companies fully constructed and painted.

This will be a WIP Thread that I hope will encourage me to get these companies to be fully painted which I find to be the most difficult to be motivated to engage with. You can expect to see a tank mounted fighting company of the size of 58 marines with ~12 tanks by the time it's fully constructed, as well as a 45 strong fighting company composed of Bikers, Speeders and Ariel assets.

I'll also be fleshing out the history of these companies, and their dramatis personae over the period of this thread.

Expect over the next couple of days to see the current status of my Templar Assets and some of what's in store.

Also You'll be delighted to know that I'll be getting rid of my Grey Knights in preparation for them.

Thus this Thread comes with the guarantee that Psykers were harmed in the making of this Thread!

I'm Looking forward to seeing how this turns out for me and hope it'll be of interest to the Black Templar Board!

Welcome brother to the Eternal Crusade! You come before Dorn during a most fortuitous moment and your Emperor has need of all the ZEALous hearts in his domain. There lies before us a time of great struggle.

But you are a son of Dorn, you were made for this moment, now is the time to grab your sword and realize the glory contained deep within your two hearts.

Let nothing deny you.

Also You'll be delighted to know that I'll be getting rid of my Grey Knights in preparation for them.

Sigismund approves of your ZEAL!

Thank you for the kind words and welcome!

We'll be pawning off the Grey knight's Armour and Weapons to fuel the forges of Bakka and Inwit! Their Land Raiders Purified to don the Proper colours of dorn!

I've had tremendous fun with my Small band of templars over the years, claiming glory against the Limp-wristed knive weilding Tau, and against Khorne daemonkin.

I've even had the delight of Showing our cousins in the Spacewolves and Blood Angels the folly of their use of Scorcery. The space wolves especially, as one of my Neophytes accepted the challenge of a rune priest in runic armour and won it, Runic axe against Combat Blade!

Anyway, as promised, Here is my Current collection of Black Templars. Many of them Need to stop being casual dress and don a proper set of paint!

Here, from left to right, Lie my Newest additions and the first of my New company: The Marshall Himself, alongside the recently promoted Imperial Castellan taking his place alongside 2 initiates and the Sword bretheren soon to lead his band of foot soldiers!

DSC 0071

These Resplendant Bretheren our my Reclusium command Squad; Joined by their vigilant (and to be painted tomorrow) Chaplain, and will be the first of them all to be fully painted!

DSC 0075

Moving to my current company, Here from the back row to the front lie the command squad and castellan of the mounted fighting company, as well as an initiate biker squad. You can expect to see them reinforced with more initiates and heavy weaponry, and doubled!

DSC 0074

The lifeblood of the company, My Neophytes take to battle atop their landspeeder storms to close in on their foes, Overwhealming them in a sea of bolter fire and Blades. They have taken on all comers in challenges with pride, from Rune Priests to Khorne lords!

DSC 0072

And Last but not least is my Stormtalon Gunship; Piloted by an initiate who will soon be joined by his neophyte who has proven worthy of undertaking tutelage under his literal wing.

And as for what's on the menu for the future, I have no less than 4 score crusader squads with trusty rhino's, and Razorbacks for my Sword Bretheren. My Mobile elements will be bolstered with More initiate Bikers and a Neophyte at the helm of another Stormtalon.

With a techmarine to perform all the maintainence duties!

It is my Intent to see at least 1 fighting company to be completely built and painted by the end of the year, Hopefully most of both of them!

Perhaps the only assistance I could ask for right now is for a way of compressing my photo's (most of them being roughly 2.54Mb) to meet the limit without harshing the size too much like I've done here.

And Last but not least is my Stormtalon Gunship; Piloted by an initiate who will soon be joined by his neophyte who has proven worthy of undertaking tutelage under his literal wing.

Techmarine pilots have Neophytes?

Someone has to pull out the chocks and go through the billions of pages of Imperial regs to find the right vox freq for every single hive zone.

Exactly! But wait, it's a VTOL craft....

In all seriousness though, I thought it'd be cool to have an initiate and neophyte storm talon pair as it's quite fitting for the templars to do so, after all if an initiate get's called to piloting what would happen to his student? Also I did alittle digging, and beside the official GW pictures, there's nothing in the fluff that says outright that the pilots of the aircraft are techmarines. Their model kit is the same as the tank crew and nobody's under the illusion they are all techmarines. If so it'd mean that a lesser chapter could hypothetically feild an entire company worth of techmarines if you have a techmarine crew for every tank piloted in the armoury. Or we could feild many fighting companies full of them.

Ugh. I Just tried to imagine the sheer insanity trying to file a flight plan on a hive world. Thousands of altitude changes and as many new clearances per mile. Not to mention the backlog of met. servitor reports....

Ravenwing pilots are 'regular' battle brothers, since techmarines' ties to the Omnissiah are seen as potential threats to Chapter intricacies. Previous codex states all of the 2nd coy can operate all Ravenwing assets.

I managed to put in some hours and robe the chaplain in the Proper colours. He's about 60-70% done, still needs his skull helm and skulls, as well as the parchment done, and the highlighting and details on the powerfist, and cleanup.

I'm hoping that all the Bronze on the crozius and the white on the chapter pad is upto snuff. Kinda debating on what to work on next, whether to get on with painting what I've built already or whether to get the tank company underway.

Edit: still not quite used to getting the ideal image size/file size ratio, but at least these ones weren't compressed, may need to click on them to get a better look.

In the fluff (from what I've read anyway), the chaplains wear a white cross on a black background.

DON'T WORRY THOUGH! I used the same scheme for many years, and he had no less ZEAL for it!

Thanks for the heads up on the chapter pad. I still got some work to do with him so I may end up fixing it in the near future. In the meantime I'm gonna be fixing up my armoury, Starting with stormtalons and then moving onto the biker squads. Should have one ready tomorrow or saturday for viewing.

Until then my templars have their first Sortie for the new edition! I'll let you know how that goes.

"Repel these bastards! Repay them Blood for Blood!"

The rhetoric, though carrying the stern cadence of Castellan Arnauld Deloc's near century of time in the ranks of the sword bretheren, The promise of paying blood for blood was mere rhetoric: The Purestrain Genestealers had erupted from their gutters and had mauled the castellans peers, caught in desperate flurries of blow's to deny them a killing strike with their talons.

The loss of the most honorable of Dorn's sons to Xeno's, and Mutant spawn of Heretics at that? Such impure blood could never be proper recompense.

Locked on his assault vector, Garvo gritted underneath the visor of his helm as the Machine spirit spun up the Assault cannons; The machine spirit's firing solutions remained tracked on the cultists skulking in the Precint Administratum office, refusing to fire on the truer insult to the honor of the templar's and the Emperor, as the risks of friendly fire triggered failsafes in the Machine spirits targeting augur.

Arnauld had circled back after the 'stealer's initial assault, forming up with the apothecay and the neophytes who bundled out of their transports, already closing the gap to avenge the fallen Sword bretheren. It didn't take long before Garvo was pinged calls for fire support to pin down the xenos.

Garvo Furrowed his brow, before answering the call.

"I'll be more then mere support. Coming in Danger close."

The gunship retrothrusters flared into action for a suicide burn for hovermode. It was a maneuver that had been drilled into Garvo's repertoire against the tau empire, where the complex firing lines often required precision positioning with minimum delay. Against them, the gunship's bulk would Impose itself between his comrades and enemy fire, acting as a sheild for his battle brothers. It had now occured to him that his bulk could also become a weapon of it's own....

Arnauld  held back breifly, in part to spy for an opening to dart through; but mainly, to his shame, to allow the combat rejuvenants administered by the apothecary to kick in. He beheld the chapter's future, rushing onward in a daunting charge into a deady and impure foe, in a desperate fight to preserve the chapters past.

It wasn't a welcoming sight.

What was a welcoming sight was the sleek black shadow of a stormtalon in the nick of time slamming into the Purestrains with assault cannon rounds.

What was even greater was the sight of a stormtalon then slamming into the purestrains; with a score of the xeno's bouncing off the hull ploughing through the purestrain's ranks, with a couple of the feinds incinerated by the backwash of the jet engines retrothrusters seared the ground as it maintained the mere feet of altitude.

The gunship wheeled round giving the scattered a final blast of fire before the astonished neophytes stiffened up and barreled into the scrabbling xeno's, filled with the vicious glee and confident befitting a zealous warrior. The gunship lingered for but a moment facing his brothers, satisfied that the sword bretheren had now begun to pull themselves out of their ambush, bloodied but unbowed. Garvo caught Arnauld in the midst of it all and shared a glare between them.

Arnauld reciprocated, awaiting upon his avian saviour to respond to his hails over the vox. Through the gunships canopy, he saw the templar Answer him, intoned through the chapters hand ciphers.

"After you, my brother."

Arnauld quickly waved an acknowledgement, before he raced through the detritus of xenos scum now broken around him, bracing his powerlance as he narrowed his vision on the commandeered sentinel that sought to lay low his brother...

So on thursday I finally got a taste of War in the Dark Millennium, and I'm happy to report that I have returned bloodied but victorious against the Unclean!

I faced down a genestealer cult army of sentinels, Purestrains lead by a Patriarch and hybrids in a kill em' all scenario. In my possession was a patrol contingent of templars, My Castellan taking the left flank with an apothecary and his sword bretheren; mounted on their trusty steeds, joined by two neophyte squads in landspeeder storms and the titular Stormtalon gunship.

My first turn had gone fairly well all things considered as the bulk of my templars swung up to the midfeild on my left flank to eliminate the sentinals and an isolated hybrid squad, Cleaving the hybrid squad in half with the Talon's Asscannon and the Sword Bretheren Chipping down two of the three sentinals there with their bolter fire.

And then the Purestrains and Patriarch showed up and Bumrushed the Sword Bretheren down in a tide of Rending claws, Leaving none of them alive at the end of the first turn.

And to top it off the Purestrains had blocked my assault route towards the sentinals and the wounded hybrids.

I countered in the customary templar fashion; Charging everything into the Genestealers. My neophytes, my Apothecary, my storms, and my Stormtalon (because now it can!).

Though the Patriarch would survive until the next round of assault I had managed to wipe out the genestealers, with my stormtalon accounting for 7 out of 10 slain genestealers!

And from that point the genestealer cult buckled; Since I had swung hard to the left flank right out of the gate I caught a third of my opponents army out of position, pretty much leaving them to take potshots at a Land speeder storm used as a roadblock for his acolytes.

By the end of the game It was a 7-5 Victory for the Black templars (My opponent only succeeding in wiping out the Bretheren and Land speeders, as well as first blood and line breaker, I Took out 5 units with Warlord and Line breaker).

I found the new system fairly easy to adjust to, and the changes to assault had made charging much more delicious and easier to do!

Some takeways I had from my little skirmish:

  • Charging unit's going first in melee makes a massive difference to how the assault phase works now, and this was a pleasent change.
  • That this edition is going to put more emphasis on Heroes and buffing synergy; My Castellan granted a 6" bubble of re-rolling 1's to hit which over the span of this small game gave me a major edge in the shooting phase as well as the Purestrain scrum in the second turn.
  • That like previous edition My neophytes are set to outperform my Sword Bretheren. They finished off the Patriarch where my Castellan failed.
  • The Change to fliers (now just inflicting a -1 to hit in addition to other modifiers) is an awesome change; far superior than the snap shot imposition on most weapons.

I think once they start producing new codexes and flesh out the chapter special rules we could end up with some nifty crunch fitting of the Eternal crusaders.

As a reward for his stellar performance, I got underway with painting the StormTalon, Which I'm dubbing "The Vulture of Horror".

I'll get the photo's up in the morning as I currently can't upload them right now sadly. In addition I have a new addition to the crusade to facilitate the repairs on my storm talon, which will be posted with the Vulture of Horror.

Until then fight on and Purge the unclean!

Right Apologies for my tardiness as I seem to have been aflicted with a hayfeverish toxin from my encounter with the broodlord.

In any case here is my first stormtalon gunship, about 70% finished, with the interior details, retrothrusters and highlighting left to do.

And say hello to the newest addition to the crusade. A techmarine with lightning claw i kitbashed from an antaro chronus body with the toilet seats removed.

I'll be plying the finishing touches to the vulture of horror over the next few days, with his neophyte pilot coming soon. Beyond that it'll be bikers galore the next week coming. Hopefully I'll have a solid  core of fighting crops to tabletop standard for this Battle for Konor coming up soon.

The Neophyte has finally been duped into piloting the stormtalon!

Was surprisingly a straight forward job though I was hoping his cockpit would have enough space to shove a combat blade into it.

Also i had finalised a Battalion detachment list I'd like to share for some feedback in the new edition.

I know it does lack some high impact weaponry but I was trying to stick to a 2K points limit.

HQ's

-Castellan on Bike-

Power lance and Storm Bolter-104

-Chaplain on Bike-

Storm Bolter - 97

Elites

-4 Sword Bretheren on Bikes-

2 Power swords, 1 Power Axe, 4 Storm bolters- 165

Troops

-4 x 5 man Neophyte squads-

with land speeder storms, 2 with Heavy Bolter and 2 with multi meltas- 167/150 each

Fast attack

-2 Full Biker Squads+ attack bikes-

1 squad has power fist- 321/341

Flyers

-2 Storm talon gunships-

1 Equipped with Skyhammer, 1 with Twin Heavy bolters

Roughly 2k points there.

Sadly I have to chop my apothecary out in order to make space for the chaplain I need for the Battalion.

I'm wondering whether I should make any changes to the list. I like it thematically and it has alot of fast bodies to close in for glorious close combat.

Should have the Bikers built by the end of the weekend.
