A couple of old style (with 3rd party bits) XV-88 Battlesuits.

The suits where eBay rescues and needed new ball joints at the shoulders and as usual the ankles...

Those are great, Elmo!  Are these guys armed with the rail gun option and missile pods, or did you arm them that way to keep your weapon options open for play?  Not sure if the arm missile pods count as high yield missile pods, or just the standard pods given the two layouts, but the models sure do look cool!

 

Great job on the paint, really like the weapon power glow too!

The layout is the same as the old style XV88 but the Rail Rifles are magnetised so could be swapped out for a larger missile pod for game play to act as the high yield version.

The arm missile pods are the standards.

Some painting has been done on the 6 XV88s project.

5 of the torsos (1 is getting commander bling) and the legs are done.

Unfortunately there will be a weeks break from major parts painting as I forgot to bring the remaining bits back with me to my spray corner and I only spray at weekends - location related...

The XV88 bodies are now complete (less weathering) - the missile arms are half done and hopefully will finish them and the Heavy Rail Rifles off next week.

Slow week last week and only managed to complete the missile pod arms on the XV88s.

I am using a ball/cup magnetised mounting system for the arms from Green Stuff World which seems to work ok so far.

I know I said all of the Heavy Rail Rifles for my XV88s would be done this weekend but one of the 6 has had a glue failure and needs to be fixed :(

Here are the 5 that worked.

Next week will be the secondary weapons and weathering :)

I am now declaring these finished - they have taken me long enough...

6 x XV88 Broadside Battlesuits alongside another one I already had.

These have all been magnetised using a Green Stuff World Rotation magnets at the shoulders and 2 x 1.5mm N52 magnets for the secondary weapons.

Work continues on the 41 salvaged Firewarriors with the torso and leg assemblies now painted.

Currently at the spray shop are the heads and backpacks and the plan is to detail these this week along with the bases.

Next week and probably the week after will be the arms and weapons.

Hopefully they will be completed by the end of the month ready to move onto a bigger model.

Damn, e1m0, that is a ton of Fire Warriors to get through in one go.  You put my 5-at-a-time set up for squads to shame.  :lol: :lol: :lol:  And it looks so much nicer and cohesive together than my stuff does.

The 44 Fire Warriors are now done - 3 weeks longer than planned for though.

Most of them where salvage/strip/repaint with some glue damage but they came out TTQ

A mix of Strike teams with Rifles and Carbines and Breachers.

It is that time of year again, the annual "Empty the Tau display cabinet and dust" event.

This also gives me the chance for some updated photos of the current "State of the Collection" :) - along with an attempt at a video but this could be better...

Bear in mind that I have been collecting Tau for over 16 years and a lot of the collection are salvaged eBay models or other peoples armies that where acquired at a much lower price than new kits.

Some of the models still are in the original paint scheme which has now been darkened in the newer models and the process of stripping and repainting them is ongoing.

Many magnets lost their lives in this collection with all models magnetised (less infantry) in one way or another.
