Greetings all! It's been a while.

So when the Boxing Day Bash came around, I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring and try and build and paint a custom kitbashed Jump Pack Chaplain, using the parts available in my bitz box.

This Chappy was built to join one of my DIY Chapters, descendants of Dorn known as the Vanquishers. They're Urban Warfare specialists and so with that I've been going for a less gaudy looks with not too many adornments that stick out and get in the way for cramped fighting in cities.

Thus here were the bitz used:

med_gallery_26154_4148_1366881.jpg

A lot of the pieces came form the Death Company set I got to make custom Vanguard and Sternguard years ago but the full list was:

Head: Chaos Space Marine skull helmet, with the arrow trimmed
Chest: Death Company
Arms: Death Company
Right Shoulder Pad: Death Company
Left Shoulder Pad: GW Imperial Fist pad
Legs: Death Company (seeing a theme here?)
Jump Pack: Death Company
Crozius Arcanum: An old Space Wolves Axe arm that needed love and the eagle decoration from the Command Box Set you'd typically put on a Company Standard
Base: Assault Marine base accessory

So a lot of Blood Angel-y stuff on a chapter descending from the blood of Rogal Dorn, but I trimmed off a lot of the extra frills and some iconography, leaving only the blood drops on the jump pack as there's a fluff reason to those within the Vanquishers as a sign of valorous honour. The crosses of the Death Company I intend to paint in with the rest of the armour, so it just looks like recessed detailing, but I'll paint the cross on the right shoulder pad to give it an Assault Marine emblem look once I get to detail painting.

And this is how he looked when fully constructed. It was fun trying to angle the Crozius arm to give a feeling of motion with all the purity seals (which are highly necessary for Litanies of Faith and warding form the risks of Plasma Pistol overheating in game...):

I'd initially tried to finish him before December was out, but family and other factors denied me to complete it in time and Takado ended up in a box for moving to my new flat. But after getting an itch to paint, I brought him back out and finished up painting him to complete him!

And a little history:

Possessing a voice that could shatter oncoming ranks of enemy and strengthen the resolve of his allies, High Chaplain Felix Takado has been ever at the forefront of the Vanquishers' battles, seeking to bolster the faith and morale of the Chapter and purge the enemies foolish enough to bring forth theirs and the Emperor's wrath. Armed with his Crozius and his sanctified plasma pistol, named "Sun's Rage", Chaplain Takado has ended many a champion and leader of the forces the Vanquishers have faced at the end of the 41st Millennium.

Recruited from the nomadic raiders that survive and pillage across the wastelands outside of Blackring Hive on Caeron, Felix Takado has served the Vanquishers for 188 years. Rising through the ranks of the 10th 'Hidden' Company, mastering the art of brutal close quarters combat and using the blessed firearms of the chapter, Brother Takado was first marked for Chaplaincy tutelage after his heroic actions on maintaining the stoic defence of the Wingfall Wall at Hive Perectus, after his Sergeant and a large element of the two Devastator Squads deployed were killed or wounded. Continuing his tutelage of the arts of Astartes combat, Takado began to learn the responsibilities and ceremonies of the Chaplaincy, before earning the black armour and Crozius Arcanum after another two decades of service through the Assault and Tactical companies.

Chaplain Takado has been seconded to the Fourth "Resilient" Company since 944.M41, replacing the the fallen Chaplain Jerra. Finding his ideal placement in leading both Assault Squads of the company, Takado earned multiple battle honours over a large series of Campaigns and Crusades with the Vanquishers fighting in their suited combat role of city-fighting and siege breaking and in other environments. Notable honours include the annihilation of Mek Rukka's Burna-Dreads at Sandhowl Pass, the execution of the Champion Undivided during the Sigmus II Purges and the leadership of the desperate defence of Imperio Spaceport against the Necrons' awakening upon Esperex Tertius.

And that's all! Thanks for stopping by and as always, any comments/criticisms etc are welcomed. Hopefully in the future I'll have some assault marines to add to my Fourth Company forces for Chaplain Takado to lead with zeal and pure wrath.

Well done.

The posing, especially, is fantastic. Well done!

Thank you both, gents! Getting the posing right was a lot of fun as it was all from plastic pieces and opened up a lot of capability, plus the Death Company parts already have that aggressive pose in place to use and kit-bash with.

Hopefully in the future I'll have some more to display, along with some WIP work in a thread soon.

I think I'm going to have to look at some of these Death Company legs again.

I'd dismissed them at first as being too specifically Blood Angel stuff, but that Chaplain has me convinced otherwise right now. :happy.:

EDIT:

Also, :censored: yeah, Vanquishers!

Always good to see the Vanquishers! :biggrin.:

The Death Company box is great for aggressively posed miniatures. A lot of stuff can be shaved/cut off effectively, there's just a handful of exceptions (they are handy for Apothecaries though). I tested it originally on some Sons of Doom Vanguarf and stuck with using them since for Assault Marines/Characters as they do make a unique posing opportunity.

Also, :censored: yeah, Vanquishers!

Glad you like them so since the project we did. :D Hopefully I might actually finish their IA proper as was my plan for the Iron Gauntlet... I got plenty more lore to draw on in my mind.

Great stuff there Cambrius the pose works very well, always great to some a Liber Chapter in the flesh the plastic :D

Thanks Reyner! Glad the pose looks good in the end. Was a lot of fun to kitbash it and make something that is one of a kind. Now he just needs Assault Marines...

I have a small force of Vanquishers already, so they do exist in the plastic and hopefully will grow with my Sons of Doom as time goes on.

  • 2 years later...

Well it's been quite a while, but I feel I should rekindle this thread to showcase my completed projects from my DIY Chapters as the 12 Months of Hobby continues and the Second Vow of the LIBER MARTIALE kicks in shortly.

I'm also beginning to retrack my WIP progress in this thread here.

So thus here's some of the progress over the past few months for you to enjoy, including some lore in the Spoilers for those interested:

Sons of Doom:

So to start of from my original DIY Chapter I made in '07 and has since been reforged and improved upon for the LIBER MARTIALE, I present a model I started nigh on 12 years ago and left to the wayside, lacking the necessary bitz to really imply that this is a Chapter Master.

But the vow was made and with my increased bitz box, here we have Chapter Master Oros Sirion:

And some lore on him for those inclined :smile.: :

+++ MESSAGE INTERCEPT+++

+++DECRYPTION - SUCCESSFUL: CODE VERMILION-402-1A+++

+++WELCOME INQUISITOR LEIGA, WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR UPDATES DURING THE RECLAIMING OF VOLTRONUS. YOUR INTELLIGENCE ON THE REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVING AT THE REQUEST OF THE VANQUISHERS HAS BEEN VITAL AND WE CAN CONFIRM THAT THE SONS OF DOOM ANSWERED THE CALL TO FIGHT ON VOLTRONUS. WE HAVE ATTACHED A FILE DETAILING A SHORT HISTORY OF THEIR CHAPTER MASTER, WHO IS LEADING THEIR FORCE.+++

+++OPENING DATA FILE: SIGMA-412-2-CM002+++

Chapter Master Oros Sirion

Recruited in the very early days of the Sons of Doom's creation from Auton's Ordov Clan, Oros Sirion has faced the myriad of enemies that have threatened to wipe out the chapter throughout their ill-fated early centuries at the end of M41 and into Noctis Aeterna. His outlook is one that has been moulded and forged by First Master Dolomitis and his command retinue over the centuries until Sirion ascended to become the second Chapter Master in the Sons of Doom's history. Sirion's voice is one that carries far over the battlefields as he calls for his brothers to purge the enemy with their firepower, never to give up upon the Imperium and its citizens they are charged to protect.

Sirion was marked for leadership early on, becoming a Sergeant within the Fifth Company and earning his Crux Terminatus and numerous other honours after surviving the catastrophic losses during the Gaia Harrowing, joining the First and was seconded to the Deathwatch, before being recalled near the end of M41. Leading the Fifth Company after Captain Amorphus' death on Nestir V in 999.M41, Sirion displayed the typical fierceness and indomitable hope of the Sons of Doom as the Imperium was torn in two and the Chapter faced the forces of Chaos that spilled out from the Cicatrix Maledictum. With the interment of First Master Dolomitis at Erdavus, Sirion was chosen amongst the Council of Leadership to uptake the mantle of becoming the second Master of the young Chapter.

Typically clad in the few Terminator Suits the Sons of Doom possesses, Chapter Master Sirion often wields the masterly crafted "Pyre Claws", given in the early years of the Chapter's founding as a gift of gratitude from Forgeworld Adelan-Tertius, when the Chapter repelled a Chaos invasion force and crossing blades with the Hatred's Tools for the first time. It was said by First Master Dolomitis that the Pyre Claws displayed the incandescent fury and power of their volcanic homeworld of Auton as they shear through all armour and flesh that stands before it. With these blessed weapons, Sirion has ended the lives of many Tyranid beasts and Chaos engines, leading his Chapter by his example of fury and steadfastness.

Vanquishers:

Then from my other DIY Chapter, the Urban Warfare specialists of the Vanquishers, I've been a little more busy with terrain, Intercessors and my first completed Chapter Ancient, amongst other completions for 2020:

Intercessor Demi-Squad Gahrs of the 4th "Resilient" Company:

med_gallery_26154_6860_977229.jpg

Codicier Karek Somid of the Fourth "Resilient" Company:

med_gallery_26154_6860_58140.jpg med_gallery_26154_6860_144065.jpg

This was another old project form a job lot I got 8 or so years ago, and some serious paint stripping was in order. But I'm really happy with the results on him, including the hand pose and glowing eyes, implying that he is using the innate Dornian Geokinesis psyker abilities upon the battlefield to give the enemy an unhealthy time. :biggrin.:

Veteran Brother Paedhar Luman of the Vanquishers' Fourth "Resilient" Company:

med_gallery_26154_6860_456913.jpg

This is the first Chapter Ancient I've fully completed, with a bit of a challenge taking on the silver gauntlet in freehand. A black fineline pen at 0.2 nib size was a real help for cleaning it up. The Vanquishers name their companies with a synonym for endurance, as the Chapter's motto and mantra is to endure against the enemies of the Imperium and still come out on top. Thus the Fourth Company is usually referred to as the Resilient company within the Vanquishers.

Captain Elias Draeg of the Fourth "Resilient" Company:

med_gallery_26154_6860_48072.jpg

Techmarine Perron of the Fourth "Resilient" Company:

gallery_26154_6860_330177.jpg

Another one that was reclaimed and stripped and rebuilt and painted from the job lot my Librarian came in. The axe originated from the Space wolves set, with a differing holding arm to provide a more relaxed pose whilst Perron consults the controls in his hand.

Terrain:

These fuel tanks were made using the tops of Johnson & Johnson Q-tip packs and were surprisingly effective once sprayed silver, washed and drybrushed with some decals. It suits a number of scales as well for standard hobbying, or even Adeptus Titanicus to simulate the large tanks you see at refineries:

med_gallery_26154_2874_1535504.jpg

+++++

And that's it for now, 6 months of stuff in one post. I intend to keep updating this thread with my completions, whilst also tracking my WIP progress in the original thread linked at the very start of this post.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look see! As always, any comments etc are greatly welcomed. :smile.:
