Every time I won, we reduced my force by 50 points (from an initial 500); every time she won, I got 50 points back. For us, it created natural balancing points where the smaller force plus experience meant a good game against a beginner's 500 points. That’s a great idea and I’ll suggest that to him! 2 hours ago, Xenith said: Sounds like a great journey you're both going on! These resonate with me particularly. Nids are liberating, no edge highlights! Can I suggest a matte/satin varnish on them though if you're just using contrast? I've found that as they can go on thinly, they can rub off especially with coarse foam etc. Extremities used to be bare of paint until I got the W&N varnish on them. Thanks, it’s been fun so far and has helped reinvigorate my own marine work because I can mix things up and have better incentives to do my own things too. good advice on the varnish front, I had noticed similar on some of his models already so I’ll look into adding varnish to protect them Firedrake Cordova 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335744-blindhamsters-blood-angels/page/13/#findComment-6002063 Share on other sites
Rusted Boltgun
That battle report was great fun to read and is something my son and I are aiming for. I second varnishing contrasts having repainted the Snakebite Leather on my Orks a few times. Blindhamster
So, Blindhamster Jr and I had a little hiatus for the holiday season due to a lot of busy stuff. however we were both blessed between christmas (and in my case birthday). Jr got a tyranofex which he is about 50% through building, a unit of termagants (which he plans to use extra special guns on to add special guns to his existing termagant units) and a neurolictor (which he has built). No pictures of those yet. But he has also made some progress on his Genestealers, his school has allowed him to do some painting in afterschool club on mondays which is pretty cool so he's been using the case he got from the battle honours scheme at our local games workshop. Anyway onto Genestealers: He's got to add the agrax wash to the bases (except one) and plans to pick out some of the details with the same yellow/orange colour used for some of his guns, but I think they're looking pretty awesome honestly! As for me, I aquired a captain with jump pack, 2 packs of jump assault intercessors (meaning I've got 3 packs total), a terminator chaplain and a box of terminators! So far I've built 5 more Jump Assault Intercessors to add to the 5 above: I've made an effort to ensure poses look different despite sharing bodies, I did this by replacing the stock basing scenery on 5 of them, and mixing in both black templar and regular assault intercessor arms. Overall pretty happy with how they're looking so far. I've also dont the standard thing of replacing skulls on chestplates with blood drops on some as well as giving them chapter symbols on jump packs. Sergeant has a sanguinary guard sword I had lying around because I thought it would be cool. Blindhamster
Some better images of the new assault marines, quite happy with the bases, less so with the shoulder pads. Firedrake Cordova
Sounds like both you and "mini-hamster" had a good haul over the holiday period, and are making good progress on them I think the assault intercessor squad looks good - it doesn't look "cloney" to me (if you've got 15 of them, it sounds like "ride of the Valkyries" may be necessary ) Blindhamster 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335744-blindhamsters-blood-angels/page/13/#findComment-6016321 Share on other sites

Blindhamster
Not the best images, but its late and i cant get my phone to take good ones. Bases now done and heads added to those that lacked them before. Sorry about the rubbish photos, but pretty happy with how the unit is coming together now. Blindhamster
I've been fairly rough all weekend so no progress from me, but Jr finished building the tyrannofex he got for christmas and we made a base together for it. pretty cool model, looks imposing! he has been telling me about how deadly it is since before christmas so hopefully when we get our next game in (was meant to be this weekend, but poorly as mentioned) he can show it off Helias_Tancred, Firedrake Cordova, Grotsmasha and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335744-blindhamsters-blood-angels/page/13/#findComment-6017701 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
The base looks good It does look like GW needed to give him the next base size up, though! 12 hours ago, Blindhamster said: he has been telling me about how deadly it is since before christmas so hopefully when we get our next game in he can show it off What a nitwit ... doesn't he know that he's just consigned it to an ignominious turn 1 death by saying that?! Blindhamster
been a bit quieter on the hobby front for me lately, Blindhamster Jr played a game against grey knights and won, was pretty hard fought and entertaining for me to watch (a friend of mine brought his grey knights over for the game). Outside of that, I've done little bits of building and painting my side and my son has done a bit of painting. I've been focused on running a playtest for an RPG I've been writing so thats been a huge time sink. Excited to see what the future brings for blood angels personally, but right now I've got a partially built jump captain and then I've still got 10 scouts, 5 terminators, 5 jump assault intercessors and 5 desolation marines to build. Plus side, once all those are done I'll actually have completed my hobby backlog from a building perspective, if I can get them based, basecoated in the correct red and bases painted to the basic level everything else is, it'll be a good position to then pick units to progress to completion. Blindhamster
So, @Jolemai kindly moved this to a new home, I figure it is better suited here. I've also renamed back to just being blood angels. My sons interest in the hobby waxes and wanes as is normal for a 10 year old, when het gets back to doing hobby related things, I'll get him to start a new thread in WIP or the tyranid forum. Anyway. For myself I've done a few bits lately, over the past couple weeks I've been working on scouts and actually done more painting than i've done in a long while as I realised my magnifying glasses are more comfortable with my spare pare of glasses. anyway scouts! I've made progress with both painting and building, the cloth areas have been blocked in and shaded (but not highlighted), I'm attempting to use infernal brushes black templar tabard tutorial as a base. They've been pretty fun so far, I'll likely go back and do another pass with the darkest of the shades (rhinox hide + xv88 + glaze medium) in certain recesses, I've mixed up my highlighting mixes already so just a case of doing that. The black areas are pure abaddon black atm (for guns and boots), grey seer + black templar for the aquilla and im using the warhammer tv weathered black leather for all the leather areas (so basecoated rhinox hide + incubi darkness currently). Bases are done but need trims blocked in and all the red needs cleaning up, but i was waiting till I had the other areas blocked in nicely. Some closeups: I've also started work on the other 4 with their bases: and blocking in colours: Outside of that I made my jump captain finally: I'm aiming to get the scouts fully blocked in for colours with the red shaded by end of this week, its sort of funny to think these will probably be the closest to complete models I have once I'm at that point... I've got terminators to build next, but waiting for the upgrade sprue to use a couple of torsos and the head and sword (i'm aware the fist is "better" but I like swords more) Silas7, Aubéron, INKS and 7 others 10 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335744-blindhamsters-blood-angels/page/13/#findComment-6060367 Share on other sites
Galron
Hey, where did that cool model with the captain with the power fist and the cloak come from a few pages back? Blindhamster
pretty easy to replicate at least, full part list: - right arm from a primaris lieutenant with the extra gauntlet detail (basically so its bulkier) - left arm was part aggressor (upper half) and part original gravis captain (fist) with a rubber ammo belt (https://www.zinge.co.uk/collections/flexible-resin/ammo-belts) - left shoulder was from original gravis captain with green stuff chapter symbol - body was tor garaddon, as was backpack - abs and tabard are sculptedm you could likely find an official tabard to use to save sculpting that bit - halo from primaris chapain - knee detail was from a sanguinary guard - sword to taste (that model has had 3-4 different swords for me lol) - head is lazarus, which is one of my favourite marine heads. Blindhamster
I said by the end of the weekend, I'd have the scouts all at the same point, here is my progress: Current step I'm on: - blocking in the very dark grey for the main part of the boots (done on a couple) - cleanup the dark grey for other leather arreas - cleanup the red and add shading to the red - block in skin on the few that need it - add heads Hoping to get the above done this week.
