Played a 1k (and 5) point game against my friends salamanders today.

 

i had 

dante + 6 sanguinary guard with 1 spear, banner and two inferno pistols

astorath +5 jump death company with standard expected loadout

captain (sword and rifle) + company heroes

lieutenant (sword and rifle) + 10 intercessors with sword and two grenade launchers 

 

he had

adrax + 10 infernus

vulkan + 10 infernus

10 infernus

3 flamer aggressors 

repulsor with lascannons

 

we ended up in the a diagonal deployment with hidden objectives for the ritual. The result was just a massive brawl in the middle of the table.

 

his overwatch was utterly disgusting throughout and I lost more models in my own turns than in his.

 

managed to sneak a win in turn 4 after tabling him… (won by 4 VP) but I only had 4 models remaining myself (Dante and 3 sanguinary guard)

 

the most brutal meat grinder sort of game I think I’ve ever played!

 

astorath was MVP tbh, killing vulkan after being the only thing to survive the first overwatch thrown at me, then also taking. 4 out of 5 wounds of Adrax. He almost managed to survive the game but unfortunately failed a single save against the repulsors melee attacks right before I killed it.

salamanders with the bonus strength, OC2, not to mention the buffed oath of moment and ability to throw devastating wounds on the flamers are absolutely brutal. 
 

To be fair, two of our friends were playing on the table next to us, that was world eaters vs imperial fists.. somehow the world eaters were the ones hiding behind cover making the fists come to them lol. An amusing game, the world eaters ultimately won.

Having a play with gold, what do people think? It needs another finer highlight with stormhost but otherwise happy I think

The SG are looking good. Is that Retributor + Aggrax? My own recipe is Retributor > Aggrax > Liberator > Stormhost.

- Retributor armour base

- thinned guilliman flesh wash all over

- drybrush retributor armour

- Soft shade with gor grunta brown + lahmian medium on lower areas.

- Glaze reikland flesh shade + druchii violet near recess and lowest shadowed areas.

- Line shade with cygor + lahmian medium.

- Highlight raised areas with auric armour.
- Edge highlight with liberator gold.

 

I may do a dot highlight of stormhost silver, maybe.

The flag is just overspray and stuff haha, I've base coated it all corax white now  But thanks anyway!

Good job on the Salamanders win! Love reading a batrep too. Nostalgic plus.

 

You make me regret using Agrax on my SG. That reikland washes down really well for a much paler finish that holds up the silver highliggts better.

 

My knock on trying agrax is its a bit too dark for stormhost silver/ runefang.

tbf, they’re still lined with cygor which is also very very dark. I think Agrax looks good, your guard look great!

Really like the sanguinary guard. I really struggle edge highlighting with metallics. I can never seem to get the right consistency of paint and it just seems to go on far to light. 
 

find I can get away with dry rubs but edging adds so much

I used Aggrax Gloss (from my dwindling supply) and found it worked much better than the regular. Although it is out of production, you can get a a similar effect by taking regular Aggrax and leaving it to settle for a couple of days. Then open it carefully and take just from the top. The pigment and matting agents settle to the bottom giving you a consistency similar to the old gloss version. Here are a couple of models I did using Retributor armour, Aggrax gloss shade, Liberator gold highlight and the Stormhost silver edging.
