Some of this has been talked about in various threads, but thought we could use a thread to consolidate and focus on this.

So I was excited to get my hands on 8th and the new box set, but I'm having trouble finding a roll for most of the primaris. I thought I'd write it all out to get it organized outside of my head. However, I really don't play much anymore, so I'm hoping others will add to, and or correct some of these observations.

I like the Intercessors most. I think they could hold back field objectives better with there increased range and wounds for not much more points then other troop options. They won't be as good in melee, and they have no special weapons, if the enemy gets in my backfield. There lack of transport options is another con, but in this roll all of this is not that bad.

I was most excited about Hellblasters, but they are more expensive then Longfang Plasma canons. I also like that I can mix in other weapons in a Longfang squad, especially with split firing. They could be a more mobile close support option that could still move and shoot, but then transport becomes an issue.

Inceptors are cool, but pretty expensive points wise for what essentially is a three model suicide unit.

I'm going to have to model the Ancient, just to Space Wolf him up. If I had a gun line of Longfangs his buff might be worth the points, but I have so many other elites I want to run with my wolves!

Lieutenants? WGBLs can take a storm shield and ride in the same transport as the troops.

I'm not sure about the captain either. Gravis Armor looks cool, but there are so many great SW HQ choices out there I'd rather run.

What are your thoughts?

I've held back on the Primaris and have been watching how others use them and how well they do on the field. I'll probably wait until some more specific rules about Wolf Primaris are published and go from there. I've never been an early adopter. I have limited gaming funds so I usually do a lot of research and play testing with "proxy models" before I commit to buy. The rules we have for them right now are very generic. I think once we get chapter rules their character and place will be more evident unlike the transition phase we are currently in.

I play BAs and SWs and my Primaris Marines are going red as I can't really see a role for them in a SW army.

Inceptors would be good if they cost the 53 points each they are list as in the Primaris Minidex but II1 lists them as 75 points each which is just too expensive for what they bring.

If you want a mobile dakka squad then WG bikers with storm bolters look rather shinier.

I stuck them in in two games as back/mid field objective holders in cover. Held the objective and not much else, they were hard to kill but my opponent quickly realized they didn't have much teeth and left them alone.

I'll likely not use them again until the full primaris line comes out and can try some other synergies.

Yea at the moment with no transport options and very tightly defined roles I see nowhere they fit that my space wolves don't cover.i prefer the flexibility of my wolves. I suspect this may change with a full release, but for now I have no need to pick them up.

Intercessors and Hellblasters should fill the niche between GH/BC up front and Long Fangs in the rear. With that 30" range standard in weaponry, they can easily support the frontline as well as counter deepstriking units on our back line.

Inceptors should be supporting TWC, Wulfen, and deepstriking TDA. Dropping them in to soften up targets that will ultimately be dropping massed fire or horde assaults on those units.

Repulsors are can sit at midrange with your Intercessors and Hellblasters or on the back line with your Long Fangs. That depends ultimately what weapons they have on them.
