^^^ THIS!! I'd actually love to know the fluff you created to go along with your Seagull themed army.

The idea has really resonated with me, all of yesterday I was trying to come up with an equally creative idea. Having now slept on it, I think I'll be going for a chapter of Pigeon marines (hope its not too derivative).

Can you share any tip or hints about your conversion? Anything you would have done differently?

I have a homebrew chapter idea based on shrikes. The bird, not the Chapter Master.

They're vicious little birds that impale their prey on thorns because they lack talons to hold them in place while they eat them.

Thinking on calling them the Warshrikes. Probably going to do dark gray armor with black pads and a silver Raven Guard symbol. Would be the 5th chapter to use it (Raven Guard, Knights of the Raven, Hawk Lords, Rift Stalkers).

I'm not going to theme them as strongly as you did, but I am going to do a squad of Vanguard Vets with plasma pistols and power lances. They impale them on the charge and then shoot them :)

Sounds good. I have a squad of power lance vans myself, they are utterly useless in combat but they do look cool!

I like them.

I think the painting is good - they work coherently and as a force they sit well.

The big old gull/eagle conversion is mint. A Raven's Fury model perhaps?

I think my favourite is the double bladed Eviscerator/Teeth of Terra - suitably vicious looking.

Had to drop a comment here - such an original idea and brilliant execution for a chapter! Love it!

I once saw a gull perform a 20 ft dive from a lamppost to pluck a hotdog from a child who briefly waved it in the air. Snaffled down the hot dog in mid flight, all done in 5 seconds. A finely executed orbital assault. In that regard I think the gull is quite a fitting bird/theme for an RG successor chapter!

I'm really upset i've only just found this, this army is awesome, with some nice conversions, big fan of the double chainsword. and the giant seagull.

Where I am from, the seagulls would deal D20 mortal wounds to a space marine chapter master and get hold of his chips, so its a perfect choice.

Also, has no one else spotted that the ground pounders are penguins? That's a fantastic idea all of its own and I like the way you've spliced the two together. I think I like that colour scheme as much as the gull boys.

Haha, well done on noticing! They are, indeed, penguins. I much prefer painting them, black is so much easier than white

Dude - I love the concept! Kudos to you for having such a well-executed, consistent theme throughout your army. Personal favorite has to be that double Chainsword. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that before!

When I see that amazing seagull conversion, I can't help but think how pathetic my own little foot-slogging Chapter Master would look fighting him! :P

I noticed what looked like maybe some Scion head-swaps on the scouts? Any chance close-ups could be in order? :)

Also - love the name Father Beat-down....

Yeah, will take a photo when I get home. A lot of them are just straight up scions with chest and arm swaps. I really don't like the scout kit at all

You need a unique chapter trait. Maybe something like "Power from Trash" or maybe "Power from Fish" that buffs your units as the game goes on. But in return, your leadership goes down every turn to represent them fighting amongst each other or wandering off. Haha

@Gultramarine

Good to see this thread opened up again.

Apologies if I came off as too critical the last time I was here, I certainly didn’t mean to upset or offend anyone’s work.

Everyone puts a lot of time and effort into their models and that is to be commended.

Gultramarine, I do accept completely that your concept is original, I am still extremely surprised by the choice of seagulls.

But each to their own!

I would still really like to see your ideas for a cat based army as I think it could be really good

Id like to do something similar with a BA successor, but I need a totem that represents them properly. Im guessing not a bird, and I also dont want bats or whatever.

Maybe a Hyrax.

Really, a Hyrax?

Very odd choice of animal, they look like rodents, I had to google them

Probably not best choice for a chapter

I know I may have seemed provocative in my ‘White is not a Colour Scheme’ observation, as you had indeed painted their noses yellow.

And I agree, black is a easier to paint than white. I don’t want to be provocative again and say that Black is not a colour scheme,

But isn’t Black just the absence of a colour scheme?

*looks at Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Deathwatch, Black Legion, Ravenwing..*

But in seriousness, painting black can be a right pain and there are many different ways to achieve a decent black. Anyone willing to take it on deserves props. When it works, it really works!

You may indeed look at those other chapters/factions, but it doesn’t really change the fact that they are all just black.

The best (by a very long margin) Deathwatch army I have seen is one by a guy in our local shop, who painted each marine in the full colours of his original chapter.

Three 10 man squads, all (well) painted in different colour schemes, not just black with different shoulder pads.

At end of the day, black is just black.
