I like the idea of having to deal with [regiment], Scions, Auxilla, psykanna, navy and prefectus.

It forces people to decide if they want a list with a little bit of everything, but less special rules, or a more focused list. Wasn't that the point of everyone getting chapter tactics? So that the narrower your scope, the better rules you got.

Hate to be the nay sayer, and maybe I will be pleasantly surprised, but don't expect FW to get the FAQ out with the new guard changes in the relatively near future. They seem to be so far behind it isn't funny. The space marine codex has been out now for two months and we still haven't gotten chapter tactics for the FW chapters as minor as they would have to be(Aware that Red Scorps will be in the new book whenever it comes out).

Has anyone asked FW if they will do this? Is there any relevant event coming up where this can be asked? I wish sometimes FW was more transparent :/

So let me throw out one prediction....plasma is gonna get more expensive. It's criminally cheap right now.

I agree. As I stated in another thread all of these buffs to rapid fire weapons are stealth buffing plasma. I don't even know how expensive plasma would have to be to not make it pretty much auto pick.

Something else I noticed.

I happened to look at the space marine codex and heavy bolters are 10 points each and plasma guns are now 13 points each.

I feel this is a foreshadowing to a price bump for these weapons in the IG codex... Thoughts?

They were like this in the index too. They had higher points because they are more effective. SM sniper rifle is also 4 points.

One thing I'm gonna mention, although take this with a grain of salt. There are rumors floating about that the change to conscripts will look like this:

1. Max 30 man squad

2. Orders work on a 4+ instead of automatically.

Source is MordianGlory, on Youtube. Take it or leave it. I personally think it sounds plausible, but then again, we'll know for sure tomorrow.

If that's true, it really sucks we go back to being a coinflip army. Being able to reliably fall back and shoot was something that made Conscripts very flexible. It makes planning a strategy for a turn extremely difficult if you don't know if you'll be able to execute basic commands because other armies were abusing our units.

I'd take that. Keep commissars viable and still field a blob or two!

Well, if it's really necessary we can command point that roll. And the orders will still be automatic to every other squad. I generally find that I don't even give my conscripts orders. Save those for the plasma vets. :P

I believe the 4+ would only refer to the conscripts... to reflect their "lack of discipline". I'd be surprised if they changed the whole mechanic

Yeah, I understand the nerf would be limited to conscripts, but if orders are now a coinflip for them, their utility is severely damaged and strategizing the turn becomes much harder. It used to be I could reliably fall back and shoot with them, which forces my opponent to respect their space instead of just charging into them to make them shutdown for a turn. With the rumored nerf, if i fall back, I may simply be just placing my Conscripts in a vulnerable position for zero gain on the back of a bloody coinflip.

Yeah I agree with the sentiment that a 4+ is good. I mean what military planner would put fresh recruits into a situation thinking they would 100% pull it off. I mean considering what conscripts stare down at times I'm surprised they don't have to roll a 4+ to wet themselves.

I asked. No response yet.

Played a couple of 1k games tonight with just a 20-man conscript blob and two Scions squads as my only troops choices, with the latter deepstriking. The conscripts were supported by a Commissar, an Astropath, and a Platoon Commander.

Before today, I was totally on board with the idea of being fair and balanced, and giving Conscripts a nerf because people were abusing them in Imperial Soup lists.

But honestly, it seemed so transparent to me during these two games that a squad of snipers would have crippled them quickly. Take out the Officer and the Commissar. It's like people have given up on de-buffing them, because they won't take the necessary steps to plan for anti-character.

That being said, that was just two games, a very small sample size. So fat old grain of salt.

What seems unfair to me about the idea of orders on a 4+ for Conscripts is that it punishes Guard players for the abuses of Imperial Soup players. Non-IG folks don't really care if they get orders or not: they just want the cheap, Commissar-backed board-cloggers.

For my money, a cap at 30, along with Commissars having to kill D6 or D3 to make them stay, would be much better.
