Warpmiss
It's time of the year and Papa Nurgle is bring us his Christmas gifts. I am thinking about what DG goods I could get for myself. I only have models from the DI box so I wanted to get some from the releases that we've had since then. I am certain that I am getting the Blight-hauler and the ETB Lord Felthius and cohort but I wanted to get something else. I don't want Mortarion just yet as I only play games with few points and also I'm still fairly new at painting and he seems a very complicated model. Therefore I am also excluding the Deathshroud as I feel they should be in an army with their Primarch. However, I was considering either the Blightlord terminators or one or two of the other single model units: Biologous Putrifier, Foul Blightspawn, Plague Surgeon or Tallyman. I think I would have fun painting any of them but I wonder how they perform in the TT. Terminators seem like a no-brainer but I haven't heard/read anything about those units. Any ideas/advice? Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342504-advice-for-a-dg-christmas-purchase/ Share on other sites
The Wolfguard
I have the Dark Imperium set, my next purchases were a squad of plague marines and another bloat drone. I feel deathshrouds need a big ol' HQ choice to go with. Blightlord terminators could be a good purchase but I really feel like two squads of plague marines is a good little core to start with, loading them with the plasma or blight launchers as you wish. If you are getting the Felthius cohort it might be worth getting some blightlord termies to make it a squad of 8 (well, I'd take one out to make it 7 but still). I agree that Mortarion isn't a great advance forwards from there. My opinion on the individual models is you'll need units for them to buff up to make it worth it. With only one plague marine squad you don't really have so much stuff for them to buff I'd say, maybe if you pick up another plague marine squad then add one in? I'm in love with the Plague surgeon model wise and love the rules, anything to make my guys a bit extra tough. I haven't played any games with my Death Guard but am going off things I've read and I've been told in a GW. I'd say a core of plague marines lets you then invest in stuff to buff them up, but drones and the blight haulers are good little elements to add for sure. (I'm personally going to look at 2 PM squads, LoC, sorcerer, blightbringer and 3 bloatdrones for the start of my army I think). I hope this helped in some way. Warpmiss
Oh, sorry, I guess I should have specified what units I actually have: I actually have 2 DI-worth of Death Guard models (minus a Lord of Contagion) so that makes: 1 LoC, 2 Malignant Plaguecasters, 2 Noxious blightbringers, 40 poxwalkers, 12 Plague Marines + 2 PM champions, 2 Foetid bloat-drones. 1 Defiler 1 Helbrute 1 Daemon Prince of Nurgle with Wings Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342504-advice-for-a-dg-christmas-purchase/#findComment-4963538 Share on other sites
happyslugger
I'm having good results with BL Terminators and love the deathshroud..they tend to wreck most things they get into combat with. My terminators I load out as 3x combi plasma. 1x blight launcher and the flail. I normally drop a LOC or typhus (if not using my poxwalkers) in with them. Lord Marshal
I'd grab Blightlords to round out your unit from the Cohort ones. Warpmiss
Blightlords seem to be the way to go then! I'll check with my hobby store how they are handling the GW pre-orders so hopefully I can enter one of these in the Boxing Day Bash. happyslugger
I will be ordering the ETB ones also. I think I will turn the Lord into another deathshroud and the two combination bolter guys can be kept as is. Do we know if it will be easy enough to convert the plague spitter guy? I have left over swords/axe and would like to arm him with the reaper auto cannon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342504-advice-for-a-dg-christmas-purchase/#findComment-4963621 Share on other sites
Warpmiss
Since they are ETB they'll be mono-pose so I guess it depends on what you have in mind? There's pictures of some of the sprues in GW's store page if those help. I just want the Felthius guy, I imagined my warband as merry Nurgle followers and his stupid smile is perfect for it! happyslugger
Was planning to replace his spewer or spitter weapon and give him an axe/sword..will have to see what it is like and get the greenstuff out. See, I was going to replace the Lords face with a deathshroud spare as I'm not keen. TURBULENCE
I just treated myself to a big death guard shopping spree. Built up my new PBC last night. So I'm going to recommend that. It was a really fun kit to put together. Much easier to build than I thought. But it lacked all the challenges that a tank kit like a rhino or land raider has. TempestBlade
Plaugeburst Crawlers are amazing for the point cost. I ran 2 in the last game I played both with entropy cannons and they were the stars of the list (them and Typhus and 3 Deathshrouds dropping in the backfield and wrecking house). They are the new staple in all my lists going forwards! Warpmiss
No wonder, happyslugger, his smile is... odd. I magine most people will replace his head for something else. In my case, I wanted a happy Nurgle worshipper so it works for me. I've been curious too about the PBC but I was thinking about sticking to Rhinos as a friend wanted to part his. Bulwyf
I would recommend Typhus if you don't have him. I also like at least one plagueburst crawler in a list, they are worth the costs. Warpmiss
I've been using the DI Lord of Contagion as Typhus as I'm not a big fan of the new model and I don't use them in the same list anyway.
