LilShah
The Bleeding Maw or the World Eater's 24th Company http://fabalah.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/10WorldEaters-1.png "Reach out child, into the heavens. Seize the very stars in your fist and rise. Glow. That is how you gain glory. But is it truly glory you want? Or but a moment's respite from the fangs that rip into you, gnaw at your soul in your dreams?" -----------------------Heya guys! Welcome to the Bleeding Maw, a truescale Horus Heresy PLOG. It's a narrative driven story about a loyalist company of World Eaters, the 24th, that were nowhere near Isstvan due to campaigning in the Ghoul Stars along with two companies from two different legions which I will reveal further down the line. For now however it will remain purely World Eaters. As for the goals of the escalation-style campaign which I've got going with a buddy and his Iron Warriors, the Bleeding Maw needs to break out of the Ghoul Stars and make a beeline for [REDACTED] where they will try and inflict upon the Warmaster an important wound. Oh and of course they'll have psuedo-Sanskrit, psuedo-Greek and psuedo-Latin Names . I might also get some fluff up later. So without further ado... Ancient Ukrasena "I've fought at His side. I've bled under His banner. I was chosen by his Golden Praetorians to become one of the Angels of Death because of the sheer amount of rage and passion they saw. Within me was the power to consume entire nations. Within me the power to eat entire worlds. Iron can bend cousin, it can even break. Be it within or without." LilShah
Alright guys so minor update and some lessons learnt on my end... Give paints a good HOUR to dry before doing medium washes. Anyways here's my first ever truescale marine. As always please comment and critique, I truly appreciate it. From my own behalf I give the model a 6 or a 7 out of 10. I love Mk. II 'Crusade' Armour but all the :cussing rivets combined with old and wrecked brushes made this test model into a bit of a rush job to put together a complete mini. I'll probably spend a bit more time on the next one new brushes I guess. Anyways enjoy. (I'll probably only do a fluff piece when the entire squad is complete.) Dusaesana Vamse Legionnaire, 4th Assault Squad, 3rd Battalion, 24th Company, XIIth Legion Astartes rare pict-capture made by IVth Legion Remembrancer Merkurios Koina while held captive "You think me a butcher mortal? No, I am no butcher, yet a simple warrior born on the frosted and bleak peaks or toxic and suffocating swamps of some half-forgotten Death World. To kill is all I have known since I came from the womb. I am a killer born. But I know a killer made. I never knew my family of feral tribesmen , but I know someone who had a loving home a keen wit and a scholarly stride. Someone born amidst clean air and simple machinery who should have become anything but what he is. The lord of the Bleeding Maw is one such killer. And a killer made will always become a butcher." Photos. Warning. They're BIG. LilShah
Vaecarna Arnheim Legionnaire, 4th Assault Squad, 3rd Battalion, 24th Company, XIIth Legion Astartes pict-capture made by Forge World Rhota-Phi Vulturax Automata "There is a difference between pride and vanity cousin. The proud hold their head high so they may witness a thousand shining stars without gazing upon the earth once. The vain would keep their heads drowning in filth and dirt just so they could glimpse their marred visage once in the water that pools in the mud. Which one are you?" - Legionnaire Goilamme Attanthu Open your eyes. Look within, look without. A thousand Eyes watch and a single voice speaks. The Wind dashes the Wings of the Noble and they forget their Heritage. The Old Word dies and the Truth with it. Always walk in the light, for even when it dims and you are drowned by the darkness cast by cursed Iron Walls, even when all you can hear is a choir of bloody voices chanting their Blood Song, you must learn to Know No Fear. Vaecarna slammed into the ground as his Crusade-plate cracked the dark earth around him, whirring and groaning as the relic design was prone to do. Firebirds soared above as the entire contents of the Saroctmaucum, a full company of Astartes, albeit a shell of its former glory. As his jump pack quashed a Secutarii he let his mind drift as he had been prone to do on the battlefield, vicious teeth singing a horrid cacophony in his mind. The pain was sharp but the meditation he had been taught and had imparted in return always dulled it. As his chain axe cleaved another automaton in half and the sound of a volkite's choom buzzed in the background, he pondered why he had not truly ever tried to contemplate those words. they had been en-route to the next conquest, a backwater system with delusions of empire, destined to be felled by the Crusade, when the astropath had recorded the message on a holo-slate and delivered it to him. He was not one for the fighting pits, never. Ukrasena, the mediator of all duels upon the Vanquisher-class ship, would often jest that he would have found more solace among the Vth or the IIIrd given his pastimes. Vaecarna never denied it. His bolter rounds fired out as he narrowly avoided stubber fire from a passing Knight, choosing to round it and continue on with his task. He looked around to see where the rest of his squad was but it seemed they had been all caught by heavy resistance. All but Dusaesana, loyal as ever at his heels. Dusaesana was the last thing he had left to a real brother. He had never been close with the 21st when he had been assigned and recruited by them, some may even say actively shunned. But things changed when the Nails were implanted. The vicious and eager coalesced around their gene-father. The rest were pushed away. He was among the supposed to be shunned for resistance. Thus was he inducted into the 24th. He had never thought of it as exceptionally welcoming but the Sorctmaucum had always felt like home. And when they served alongside the XVIIth's Hallowed Crown Chapter he had found the man that he owed for saving him from his affliction, Goilamme Attunu. He was the one who inspired him to cast out the weight on his heart through art. He was the one who helped him silence the Nails with thought. He was the one who tried to warn him of the incoming betrayal of Mankind's golden dream. And Vaecarna ignored him. He had pondered the meaning of the message, the poetic verse of Goilamme, and even though the thought of a Betrayal had crossed his mind he had rejected. How could a Son of the Emperor reject his message? He continued to ruminate until a bolt cracked his thigh plate and he let out a groan of pain. Ripped from his soothing trance the Bleeding Maw in his head bit down ever harder. Roaring he looked up to see another Knight, this time upright and noble unlike the hunched forms that were frequently seen on countless battlefields. His jump-packed buzzed as he rose in the air and planted his whirring axe into the face of the walking iron giant. Ripping away atleast half of it's optics, he leapt away as the Acheron-class knight tried to swat him away with its chainfist, leaving open it's back which Dushaesana leaped up and landed on top of it's hatch. Unhooking a krak from his belt, Dushaesana shot many bolts into the top of the panicking Noble's suit. Vaekarna himself continued to shoot and hack at the cabling in an effort to distract and slightly damage it. However he needn't have done it long as his squad brother dropped the krak into the know deep indentation upon the carapace. Both jumped away and watched as the machine slowed, as the machine-spirit acknowledged its final line of code passing through it and the noble freezing out of sheer fear. A moment later a resounding explosion appeared and the top half of the knight was blown off, the rest of the construct crashing to the ground. Even as he butchered tech-thralls around him, their circuits crackling and their blood spraying , he couldn't take his eyes off the explosion, the sheer intensity almost silencing the Nails... if only for a moment. They came back soon enough as he and his squad continued to jump ahead to face the Magos Dominus in charge of the ruined sector. And like the psycho-stimulant cocktails they had pumped inside him during his training he had developed enough of a resistance to them to continue to operate through battle at his peak, but the pain, the pain it never faded away, as sharp as the first time those hungry teeth bit into him... IMAGES ------------- Hey all! I'm back with another one of the boys in (mostly white) and blue! So a bit of changes this time around as I wanted to improve upon the last Assault Marine. The first major thing is I sculpted (or atleast tried to. I'll get there one day) the thighs into the MK. 2's classic 'hoops'. Now I think I didn't let them overlap properly and probably added too much trim on them but that's a lesson for next time. Also to note is the significantly less blood but more 'smog' weathering. I think the amount of blood I put on the Dushasaena was almost equivalent to the amount I put on the Dread and thus slightly overkill! I toned that down quite a bit as well as making the blue a lighter shade so the decals would actually be visible. I figure that the Medium wash I do would darken it regardless but I must have put a bit too much Strong Ton rather than Nuln Oil in the mix... Anways, as always comments, critique, questions and criticism is always valued! MrBear
As I said over at AH.com, he's clearly seen a lot of action. Nice little background story to him aswell, pretty badass of him to assault a Knight with 'just' a chainaxe Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342954-the-bleeding-maw-a-loyalist-world-eaters-blog/#findComment-4995676 Share on other sites
LilShah
So after a stretch of hobby inactivity due to my airbrush needing to be replaced and amongst other things my orders coming in, I've now finally got more than enough models to satiate me for a while. Having experimented using pin washes, inks and the airbrush on my Praetor (the one made for the Warlords Challenge) the result was a bit half-cocked so I retroactively designated the model as simply Legion Champion and the Praetor spot remains open. That being said what pissed me off most about that model was the terrible sculpt I'd done for the Mk. II thighs and while I love the armour I'm over it for atleast a short while and I won't be touching the last two assault squad members for a while. So I decided that I'm going to try and use a new method of truescaling. A mix of the Doghouse method and something I saw from Ephrael's true scale skirmish band, I've used a Primaris reiver torso which has been sculpted via greenstuff (albeit it mediocrely) into a Mk. IV chestplate. So when I did the size comparison here is what I saw (warning big photo); (edit: the images aren't working so here are the links) https://imgur.com/mUfvEJD wow, what a doozy amirite? The munted looking hero-scale marine looks like he can be drop kicked straight up and out of orbit. In comparison the Mk II armour is in a nice scale but the chest feels slightly small and the legs also lacking that little extra meat. It also stands a head smaller than the termi-MK. IV. https://imgur.com/a/0VySc As for the Mk. IV itself, I'm pretty proud of it. It scales well and properly looks like the post-human monstrosity that an Astarte is. Also Mk. IV kneepads because it felt nice when I got them right. LilShah
The first Despoiler's done! Ad he's actually alright! Fluff wise one thing I wanted to really get across is that unlike the Assault Marine command cadre the majority of the despoilers aren't veterans of the Great Crusade. They participated for at best a decade or two before Horus broke out in rebellion, thus they don't share the same idealism as their captains. They're savage and tribal, loyal to a fault but hard to rein in and the Nails don't make things easier. Whilst few of the Command Cadre have been implanted with the dastardly devices nearly all of the despoilers have the Nail planted into their heads. Dotted throughout the despoilers and tacs I'll be putting in some tribal runes and 'tamghas', a Mongol thing that I found really cool. moar pics As always C&C is welcome! Pearson73
Liking the gritty and blood-spattered look, the differences between the more savage despoilers and controlled assault command sounds an interesting theme to explore in your force.
