I've my army painted for some time now. Stoked to be getting a codex! Although, now I'll need to buy more models. Here are some pictures of my Shield Company, from a recent game.

Killersquid - these are ace! I love the slightly more burnished/silvery gold that you've got! May I ask how you painted the gold?

Well, I originally painted them all in clean good. Basecoat of retributor gold, reikland wash and then highlights of aulric armour, liberator and then runefabg Fang. Then I did a super watered down wash of soteck green. I then reapplied a small highlight of liberator and runefang.

It's still a work-in-progress of course, but I wanted to make my plastic Contemptor look "Venerable".  So I went with the look from one of the models shown in the Codex.

An easy conversion using Vexilla parts - and if you have more than one box of Guards you have the leftover bits.

I am doing some colour testing. Here are some test models I created last night on some used Custodes I had bought off of someone who had the Talons set (I wasn't the one who kit bashed in the Grey Knights lid). Mostly painted with Vallejo colours I got in a paint kit for Christmas.

Two variations on colours, one darker than the other.

In looking through some other posts, I like the gloves that are based on red, so I'm definitely moving to something more like that from straight up Brown.

At this point I'm staying away from the pure gold because I don't have a spray can of Retributer, and I'm not sure I totally like the Glorious Gold Vallejo equivalent. Choices...choices  :biggrin.:

@Hellex_The_Thanatar - those look great. How have you done the two-handed axes on the Allarus?

I snagged some spare handles from the guardian kits, chip chop here and there with some sculpted greenstuff on the arms and axe head then presto!

Really liked the "The Observer" take (see page 1 of this thread) and since I also do not like their legs ...

Very nice figure. Would you mind sharing your technique on the sword? You have very smooth transitions and it works well with the gold.

@Redking, yes, sure. Well ... it is airbruhed which makes it quite easy once you are able to use it properly.

1-Basecpat black

2-Vallejo Game Air Magic Blue (cover all the black)

3-The dark parts are obtained by adding some black to the Magic Blue

4-The more pale parts are : GW Temple Guard blue followed by GW Baharroth Blue

5-The edges are GW Baharroth Blue with white, around 50/50.

It is important to block one side of the blade with masking tape while painting the other side.

There are some tutorials on youtube that will show you how to do it, just type "painting power sword".

I’ve been thinking about finally getting an airbrush and pump and this is really making it hard to ignore!

What airbrush/ pump do you use? Any advise for starting airbrushing to reach a similar standard?! I’ve never tried before!!

Today I finished my first Custodes model, a Vexillus Praetor.  I used the one from the Wardens kit because I wanted him to be more impressive than the standard Custodian, and as a Dark Angels player I'm accustomed to robes indicating an elevated status.

It's not really visible in the picture, but I also added a Shield-Captain's cloak from the Custodian Guards box.  It gives the model an even more impressive appearance.
