This match up, and seeing a peak at the Custodes rules now makes me see why they are limiting Smite spam by increasing the warp cost..... This army is resilient as heck, unless you can deal lots of Mortal wounds which is the reason why a lot of elite armies don't work in 8th now.

If they aren't playing beta-Smite, I think the Thousand Sons player (if he's willing to roll smite hardcore) could lay waste to a lot of that resilience unless there's something better than the Custodes inherent 6 up we don't know about.

Yes, but the issue most players have with the smite nerf is that some armies (not just builds) rely on smite for damage dealing and some armies are point-costed for smite. Horrors are costed for smite (at least blues and brims) and their ability to smite is nullified after 2 other attempts. Grey Knights are costed for smite. Rubric Marines are costed for smite.

I dont think there would be as much concern around it if units were costed without smite in mind, and that smite nerf didnt effectively nullify a large amount of models ability to cause damage.

No one will use Rubric Smite, as not only does it eat a smite, but it can only ever do d3 damage AT MOST. Generally if you get it off its 1 smite damage. Is it powerful?

The real issue of smite isnt the mechanic- its the players who abused it. They effectively took out the biggest abuser of smite (malefic lord), which could cause A LOT OF DAMAGE for a low point cost- but since Chapter Approved, most smite users suffered a double-nerf. One is a point increase and the other is smite nerf.
