I thought a while as to what picture I wanted to start this project log off with. I did it a few times with my traitor guard posts over in the Lost and the Damned section so I thought it fitting to do it for this, specially the scale I'm going for. At first I thought one of my models, but I felt that it didn't encompass enough of what the IVth really meant to myself. Thinking back further I realized that the best way to start this off is with part of the cover artwork for the very first Iron Warriors novel, Storm of Iron. Since those days long ago the book has become a staple point for Iron Warriors fans across the globe. To me though it marks the moment when I truly sold my soul to chaos and delved deep into the lore and essence that is chaos all those years ago.

 

Now almost twenty years after I started this journey I'm finally going to commit to truly painting my army that has remained in its warped state of painted/not painted/half painted for ages. Granted I didn't always start out with Chaos, or with 40k (Skaven my fine friends are an awesome army, specially story wise) but that was then, this is now. The glory days of 3.5 were the height of armies that you could paint and field without using some sort of count-as or anything of the sort because there were rules to make all of the legions. That golden age died long ago and is one that is cursed by the Imperials and mourned by those with Chaos in our hearts. Then come the Dark Years. Years which we shall never speak of again, years that only left the truly die hard Chaos fanatics or those who cared nothing about the table top, still stood. And then came 8th. Much of the pain went away and I've played more games now than in the span between 3.5 and this edition put together many times over. It's made me want to play again, but more than that enjoy the game more so than ever before.

 

So to get back on track a bit this plog is everything to do with my Iron Warriors. From the 9th Grand Company itself to a few Armorcast Titans, from humble mutant to Traitor Armoured Company this will be all of that and more. I've got quite a collection, but it needs love after years of neglect so many of my projects will be revamping those models for this edition. It has helped that I now have my man cave that is slowly beginning to take shape and really in part to help motivate me to paint more of my army. But without further a due, I give you the present army in it's current state (minus only a few models)

 

 

Roughly speaking you are looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 444 power points. I haven't sat down and actually done out all of the hard points but in general I'll at least try to break down what I've got sitting there, I'll try to work from front to back, left to right.

Iron Within, Iron Without!

Didn't think I'd be posting so soon now did you? Well don't get used to it by any stretch of the imagination. I thought I'd start with the terminators and two of the Chaos Lords in Terminator Armour. The other two Lords in Terminator Armour were done long ago and before I go back and touch up any paint I need to get my mojo back with painting as the only thing I need to do to those models is just add a lot more details. I always envisioned that the terminators would fill a dual purpose role, first and foremost protecting their lords and the second being the hammer of the Grand Company. Up until today these models were pewter/gray in color....

Conversion wise many of these are just simple changes of heads, lopping off horns and the like. I didn't really feel the need to go all out as I like the models to begin with for the most part. Part of my strategy in keeping my focus is using the various Force Org options we have to take our armies with. This one fills out nicely with two HQ's and 4 Elites. Ideally if I am ever able to field them all at once I'd want to try and drop two terminator squads with each lord that way everyone gets the buffs but at the same time I have the tactical flexibility.

@Sagentus - Sure which models were you looking to get a closer look at? They were all going to get some love at some point and of course I will be posting before/after pics of all of them as I go along.

So mother nature held off today and I didn't have to go in and plow thus I was able to sit down and hammer out some models. I present you with the Terminator Squad Olympia's Fury in all their glory. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, even with my unsteady hand.

 

 

Olympia's Fury didn't exist until the unforgivable act of anger against the homeworld of the Iron Warriors came into light. All the warriors of the squad that would one day ban together were from separate units of the Tyrant Guard from different companies, those famed warriors of the mythical age of the Great Crusade. While the exact details of the squads founding are only rumors and heresy what is known is that the Warsmith of the 9th Grand Company saw the potential of these men and gave them something to fight for, what fell promise this was none of them would say. Banned together into one unit they fight with a cold hatred of everything that lives.

 

Olympia's Fury are held in check by the iron will of the Warsmith but only just. Many of them have courted the blood god on numerous occasions but they still owe their allegiance first and foremost to the Warsmith. While other terminator squads at the Warsmith's disposal are more sane, those of Olympia's Fury are known to more readily give into the tendencies of rage and once unleashed there are few beings who walk this galaxy that can stop them. They know no mercy. They know no forgiveness. They know nothing but wrath incarnate. Yet when not deployed they are reclusive, haunting the lowest reaches of the Warsmith's vast keep, only the tidings of war bringing them to the surface to slay the followers of the False God once more.

 

The true names of these warriors are known only to the Warsmith himself, each having sworn themselves personally to the Warsmith. Upon their armour is written a name of a long forgotten war god of their home planet and that is the only name the rest of the galaxy knows them by. It is unclear whether or not there have been new members inducted into the ranks of this squad as each time one is believed to have fallen in combat; the next war the armour is seen once more whole and wading into the hell storm of battle, whole and complete, dealing death to all before them.
