Seeing the mass of shots tear into the mob of filth in front of him, Daon tried to maintain co-ordination with the others, until he was startled by the wayward blast from the heavy bolter mounted to the hull of 2-12.  Vaidan's position - it was likely a problem with the mount, given the angle and he could tell by the trace of rounds as they struck the PDF base curtain wall the Novamarine was fighting the recalcitrant weapon.

+Khyber, the Orks would love your enthusiasm.+ He chuckled into the vox to remove any sting, his voice warm.  The jiggling of the Chimera was throwing him a little bit, so he drew his bolt pistol and steadied it across a handrail on the rear of the vehicle.

Co-ordinating his assault with his brothers Atratus dropped from the rooftops into the mass of cultists as they dived for cover unaware of the threat from above. The first few of the traitors do not even receive the dignity of death by his blade as they are crushed beneath his boots cowering low from Tybers fire, while more are set aflame by the blast of the Raptors jump pack or thrown aside by the force of his passage.

 

The chaff scattered, Atratus hits the ground running and in a single smooth motion leaps onto the loading deck of the vehicle beyond, the last grim image its crew would ever see.

 

 

Charge the horde in front of the chimera, landing near the artillery piece beyond.

Atratus inflicts a total of 13 magnitude of damage to the horde and then moves as a free action (assassin strike) beyond the horde to engage the crew of the artillery piece - ready to parry and counter attack them.

Hopefully the vehicle itself will provide him a little cover from the other hordes :p

Tyber could do little but watch as Varvost charged headlong into one of the weapon teams, with complete disregard for anything, his axe carving a bloody swath through them, then in a spilt second he spun on his heal in time with the recovery motion of his second chop to hurl himself into the second team, repeating the action.

 

Wasting little action himself, Tyber raced over to one of the weapons, pulling it from the tripod mount. As he went to place his right index finger onto the trigger, while wrapping his palm around the grip, he found that a finger guard had been placed in there along with it being meant for such a small hand. Crusing to himself he rolled the weapon onto its side and begain to smash his right fist into the handle and trigger guard. On the fourth of fifth strike, the handle came free; his next act was to bend the trigger guard so that it could press against the trigger as he gripped the body of the weapon with the rest of his hand. “I think Sabban would be most unhappy to see me do this…” he said to himself as he finished his field adjustments to the weapon, before getting into position to fire down into a horde of the rebels below their position.

Feza Ort had always considered himself lucky. He had been born into a loving family. He had known the love of the True Father was with him and had joyfully taken up arms as the call went out to throw the shackles of the old guard, those who were blind of the paternal blessings and kept muttering empty rotes in the cold templums of distant Terra. He had been lucky to born into the glorious time of revelation. He was lucky to bear witness to the despair and downfall of those deaf to the call.

Even as hell broke loose among him, his luck held. Boltshells detonated around him. The detonations blew up bodies and the blast sent him down, stumbling. A hissing beam of coherent light cut down the man next to him, who toppled onto him. More bodies fell. Their weight made it hard to breathe. His ears were ringing. Blood was everywhere. Yet, he lived. He struggled through the press of bodies, up, away. He managed to punch an arm up and dragged himself towards the hole. His shoved his head up, clear and took a deep breath.

A shadow fell across him. He caught a glimpse of something big, heavy moving towards him and felt rather the heard the plink plink plink of nearing treads. Frantically, he tried to get himself free, to push away from closing vehicle. His feet slipped, finding no hold among a mass of something wet. His other arm was still stuck among a pile of bodies. Something heavy lay across his hip. The shadow fell. His cry was cut short.

Feza Ort had finally run out of luck.

 

2-12 mounted the pile of bodies calmly, advancing steadily as it would a ridge of concrete sheathed in a growth of hive-moss. It lacked the predatory instinct of an Astartes hull. It cared not whether it crossed a wasteland or a road covered in the remains of the enemies of Imperium. In a way, Sabaan admired it's simplicity. But a true warrior needed to know the fury of hatred, the will to see his enemies vanquished. The Fires of hatred, tempered and focused by the Iron Creed. Only thus could victory be total and flawless. Thus, the Chimera meandered over the pile of fallen bodies under the guidance of they Techmarine, ensuring no one escaped the wrath of the Omnissiah and the Emperor. Sabaan prodded the Chimera forward. it had received the Honour of Iron. It would not fail.

The Chimera surges forward, its machine-spirit roused and ready for war. It smashes into the rear of the siege gun, the metal stanchions of the crew platform buckling under the force of the impact. The Chimera veers to the right, smashing through the masonry of the building. The force is severe enough to knock Akkad forward, prone onto the ground. 

 

There is a heavy boom as the remaining siege guns force a hole in the barrack walls. With a cheer, some of the cultists begin to charge forward towards the breach. Others see the prone form of Akkad; one of the God-Emperor's Angels brought low and made vulnerable to attack.

He had flown through the air before of course, not for the first time was catapulted onto the soil of Syndalla's capital city.  It was as welcoming now as it had been before.  He could not recall engaging his magboots, so felt only himself to blame.  He looked down as the knives and cudgels scraped against him, he had been saved from further injury - if not ignominy - by Cadence and his overall weight crushing three of his would be assailants.  This did not help his predicament.

 

His options were not ideal.  Tied into close combat with an ever-growing mob was not useful to anyone.  With a heave, he gathered himself and beseeching the machine spirits of his armour, he barrelled sideways, the cultists above him, lashing at nothing, not expecting him to simply roll away.  His arm powered him, delivering him from the waiting crunching treads of the Chimera and leaving the mob sneer and slather through mouths filled with fangs, or mutated double eyes, extra arms and tentacles mirroring those of the beasts that enslaved even their bodies.  His own body hammered into the treads of the Medusa Siege Gun, giving the Chimera only mere feet to pass him, but between the two machines, he was covered from view and harm.  Before the slime could be hidden from view, he managed to advise the squad of his predicament.

 

His unorthodox movement tripped many of the mutant up, planting their bodies quite conveniently in the path of the oncoming 2-12.  Their screams were drowned out by the mighty engine and clanking treads, spouts of gore spattering Akkad as he continued to lie prone, tucked in safely.

 

On his Turn, Akkad is no longer maintaining Strongpoint as he has been forcibly moved.

He will drop into Solo mode, Free Action: Burst of Speed

Then, Full Action: Disengage, rolling along the ground, flailing heretics out of his way like a pinwheeling combine harvester, he moves up to his AB (now 7m) towards the Medusa and tucks up beside it. (Can't find anywhere saying he has to be standing up to disengage, so I rolled with it...) :rolleyes:

Grunting to himself has the cocking handle slammed into his wrist repeatedly as the weapon went through the firing cycle. As the last brass casing fell to his feet, he tossed the weapon over the side of the building; with a little luck he hoped it would crush someone below.

While Space Marines were proof to most conventional small arms found within the galaxy, quantity was usually a quality all its own.

 

Staring down the targeting reticule of 2-12's Multilaser, Solastion considered opening fire into the horde that now encircled the Astral Claw but, despite the odds of him injuring his Squadmate was rather low, Akkad was still a Space Marine and there were other higher priority targets to be found.

 

As such, he turned the Chimeras turret to the right, saw the Siege Guns crew that wound up within his sights frantically reloading, and opened fire upon them. If he was lucky, one of his high powered lasbeams wound detonate a shell.

 

Full Auto Multilaser: 1d100 84 vs BS 49 + 20 FAB + 10 Range + ?? Size (?)  + ?? other stuff (?)= 84 vs 79; I have the FPs, might as well reroll.

The impact of the chimera causes the artillery piece to lurch and spin, throwing the heretics from the gun deck. Atratus moved to carry the momentum leap across the transports roof to the next target but auger sigils at the periphery of his vision caused him to hesitate.

 

"Brother Akkad, secure this weapon"

 

They were over committed to the southern breach, already he could see Varvost preparing to fall upon the traitors to the north but Greysight had not yet reached the siege gun covering the position. Leaping from the front of the vehicle the Raptor banked sharply and smashed into the crew of the next weapon as they worked to reload it.

 

Atratus will kill the crew of the topmost gun before it shoots Varvost in the ass - as i'm guessing he'll be pressing on next turn

Greysight, for his part, says nothing. There is simply a click-click over the vox as he moves towards his next target.

Tyber could see the mutants mustering for a push into the fort, and yet the mortals in that fort have done nothing yet. We need these mortals to join us in this fight, lest we lose the support of these men and women for when we need them later. He thought to himself, looking around he saw all of his brothers engaged, only himself were free to try and do something, to try and rouse the defenders to action to trap the rebels between a hammer and anvil of the PDF base and Squad Blackthorn.

 

It will need to be something drastic, something brazen, something showing utter contempt for those that we face… his mind raced, while his body acted almost by its own will he  launched himself into the air to come crashing down with thunderous force some sixty meters closer to the PDF base, ahead of one of the charging hordes of mutant rabble, during his decent he spoke over the external vox, as loudly as it could broadcast as well as linking his words over Imperial channels, in a vain hope that his words would inspire those in the base, while cowing those that would assault it or at least draw their attention for a few heartbeats.

"Hnh" as the pick end of a heavy pneu-mattock snagged into the flex-steel between his poleyn and the greave of his Mk VII plate adoning his right leg.  A small snick which would close on it's own, but pinned up against the Chimera, Atratus' words were more easily said than done.  Falling back on his training, he fought from his hemmed position, with no room to stand.

 

Akkad uses Full Action: Defensive Stance.

All enemies are at -20 to Hit in Melee and Akkad gets an extra Reaction (useless against hordes, but that's what you get!) but cannot attack.

 

MR.

The horde were at the breach, and once inside any number might slip away amidst the chaos. Leaping forwards Atratus smashed into their flanks seeking to carve a hole through to the wall with sword and pistol but the throng were packed too tightly at the chokehold... switching auger modes he took swift count of his foes and sought to pick out any defenders beyond.

 

D100 to hit = 51 vs 63 +10 charging, +30 horde = hit and 5 DoS. Will spend a fate point to up this to 6 DoS for the extra hit.

Wrathful descent = 6

Hit 1 = 6+14 = 20

Hit 2 = 4+14 = 18

Hit 3 = 3+14 = 17

Hit 4 = 10+14 = 24

Assassin strike to push through to the breach = 92 = failed, Atratus only gets as far as his charge move will take him.

 

Total magnitude damage = 10

As the smoke cleared around his primary target, Solastion saw yet-glowing holes within the armored hull of the Siege Gun but still saw the crew frantically attempting to put out flames and/or reload the gun; with their extra limbs, probably both, he thought.

 

Therefore, looking down the targeting reticule of the turret once more, he took aim and pressed down on the firing stud of his control stick.

 

As he fired, it seems that what he intended finally came to pass: a lasbolt hit just the right spot on the Siege Gun by boring right into the side of the main weapons barrel and prematurely detonating the shell that was half-loaded inside causing a cascade of other explosions to propagate across the vehicle.

 

The resulting blasts and fireball was large enough to scorch the paint off the front of 2-12 but, more importantly, the Siege Guns death throes took a number of the cultists on the ground with it.

 

Barely did he have time to vox in to confirm his kill that 2-12 was already on the move headed towards the breach.

As the Dragon unsheathes his weapons, he sees the horde of the cult begin to swarm forward. At this stage of the insurrection, the cloak of secrecy has been cast aside, the deformed and the twisted wearing their mutations openly. You see those with multiple arms terminating in claws rather than hands, fangs replacing teeth, ridged foreheads and chitinous carapaces. They charge towards you with hate in their eyes. Good, you think. Their hate is perhaps the only human thing left within them. But it is pitiful before the disgust you bear them.

It is then that you hear a roar from the barracks walls, behind you. A welcome sound, but not nearly as welcome as the cracks of lasrifle fire that begin to strike the cultists, beams of coherent light taking the cultists in disciplined volleys. You see Atratus crash down into the horde close by, his chainsword swinging. In the distance, you see a black-flecked fireball bloom into the night sky as one of the siege guns detonates explosively. 

 

None of that matters, as you bring the chainsword to your helm in a salute. The enemy may be subhuman filth, but you will greet this battle, the true battle, with the dignity it deserves. War has a purity of its own.

It is to the crack of Lasguns, the sudden appearance of them anyways that drew Tyber’s attention away from the horde of mutants and rebels, long enough for them to land a solid series of blows against his head, taking a moment to shake off the blows, a savage reminder to keep his mind on the scene before him.

 

“I will not be felled by things such as you.” He says to himself, knowing that great things are expected of him, now that he knows his true path.

 

Spend a fate point to regain 1d10 wounds:

Fate point to recover HP: 1d10 8

Tyber reaches his max of 19 wounds

Rolling his arming sword with his wrist to deliver quick, powerful blows while trying to keep his chainsword closer to his body for defensive strikes allowed Tyber to wade deeper into the mass of bodies, thankful for the Guardsmen to join the fight.

For all their zeal the mutants had no true skill at arms, nor now the weight of numbers to push their assault. Atratus slowed his pace and allowed his foes to come to him with each blow efficient and lethal. Conserve strength, deny the enemy their goal of attrition, give them not the smallest victory in death.

As much as their cleavers and knives stabbed and poked and sought his flesh, his hands and knees denied them.  As quickly as a new blade or cudgel appeared in his vision to threaten him, he lashed out, deflecting.  He struck hard, breaking fingers, crushing wrists and snapping the hafts of pitchforks.  A quick notification from Sabaan - nothing more and he shifted his weight as the Chimera, unyielding - much like its driver - ploughed into the mass of rabble that enveloped him.  Cries and groans greeted the air as they were crushed - some dying in great sorrow and agony, others thrashing in joyous martyrdom.

 

Akkad cared not how they met their end, only that that did.

 

He was moved to help their destruction as he reached for an item on his belt.

His leg was still tangled within a morass of corpses, but he was determined to finish the combat now to catch up with his brothers who had stormed ahead.  He wrenched his body around to shield himself from the blast as best he could, the fragmentation grenade detonating in the pulped flesh and bloody quagmire with a dull, wet crump.  He turned back to see what remained of his foemen, but found only one last shell-shocked survivor.  The man's eyes had half-separated, so that two yellow eyes now peered from elongated and malformed sockets.  He opened his mouth and spoke poorly, his jaw half chitin, half normal human flesh and bone.  The pneu-mattock that had violated Daon's armour and vexed his flesh lay loosely in his hands.

 

"It wasssn't sssupposed to end thisss way..." He protested, his eyes seeking pity or maybe hope that the armoured giant now at his feet would support him in his delusion.  Instead, Akkad kicked the man behind the knee, dropping him onto the Marine.  The combat knife glittered cruelly in the darkness, the light of a burning siege gun turning it red.  He gripped the man's shoulder, crushing the socket.

+Yes it was.+  His voice was as cold and hard as the whetted razor in his fist.  The knife went forward, slowly impaling his chest, stealing breath and eliciting mute anguish until it burst through the man's back in a surprising short shock of blood and ragged clothing.  The light died in his mutated eyes and Akkad cast the body off his knife and made ready to stand.

OOC: I was going to stab one of them, then realised I'd killed them all with the "Slips Manoeuvre" so just threw in a little narrative.
