Devils advocate is completely fine, so no problems there.

 

It comes down to what I've got fully painted in the main - there's a painting prize and I'd love to snag it, but I've no idea of the quality of the painting on the other 19 players for the tournament.

 

And you're right, the crusaders would numerically be worse than the Gallants - I just don't have any.

 

The event is also using the pre-CA2018 points because of the closeness of the event to it being released yesterday - 28th December.

 

So I won't be running the list above, and with a weeks holiday starting tomorrow at centre Parcs and then Xmas, the painting opportunities will probably be limited - I'm running a 50 player event the first weekend of Feb so spare time will go on sorting terrain for that!

 

So the real options are lancer, 2 crusaders that could be a Maegera and/or a Styrix and a combination of 4 armigers/helverins.

 

Ideal world 2 Lancers and an Atrapos would be what I took from my collection - they just won't be ready, lol.

 

Other restrictions for the event mean no heroic intervention and single detachment only, meaning my current thinking goes

 

House Vulker

 

Lancer with Adamantine knight/mark of the Omnissiah

Crusader with rfbc and Ion bulwark to sit back and shoot.

Crusader with thermal or a Styrix with chainsword

3 helverins

 

The Styrix thing I'm tempted by, mainly for the saturation bombardment strat - 6s to hit create an extra hit, 6s to wound create an extra hit (needs to wound)

 

Chaining shots like that whilst rerolling 1s to hit could be a good laugh.

 

If only I had more time though, I'd totally be working on the extra lancer - next time though since they are planning a few of these over the year.

The other option is to go for house krast.

 

Same list but

 

Lancer gets Ion bulwark for a 3++ to shooting and combat, as well as a suitable heirloom

Crusader with RFBC gets Headsmans mark and the krast trait of rerolls 1s in shooting and combat, as d3+2 damage rfbc shots and 4 damage Avengers will hurt more when shots do get through.

 

And then the rest of the list as needed

Ahh, fair enough. I'd be quite the same in all honesty - much rather field some models I feel are finished and that I'm happy with, than take unpainted/half painted units in the hope of improving my win rate.

I checked it out but Turn 2 was already in progress so unfortunately I didn't get to see much of the buildup. I would say the commentators had you winning until the end of T2's events (or so it seemed). 

 

That seemed to be a brutal, and quick game! Lots of Knights. :tu:

Well I'm home, really good day out despite getting a bit lost in Nottinghamd trying to leave the city centre.

 

In the end, my little shindig on the live stream meant a loss, so I went away with two wins and two losses.

 

But also picked up the best painted army award which I'm proper chuffed with as there were some great armies there. Nice prize for it too.

 

And then a picture of all the knights that took part - 95 I think in total.

Exhausted from a 3-hour drive each way and four great games of Knight on Knight action whilst there.

 

Alternate actions is a great system to have a go with, it's a whole new way of playing that I really enjoyed.

 

To the point I'm gonna look at running an event using the rules myself.

It was really great fun, if you have a knight army and so does a mate, definitely recommend giving it a go.

 

Finished 6th of 16, so I'll definitely take that.

The Porphyrion would give the castellans a good scare for sure and in a Knight only game it is never not going to have good targets. Surprised no one ran as many Helverins as possible. ?That would be a lot of little firepower to put out.

There was a breakdown but I can't find it atm.

 

Warglaives were second most popular which was cool.

 

And yeah, my thinking is a Porphyrion can pop 2 knights per activation, the headsman crusader another and then maybe drop a Helverin or Warglaive and maybe upgrade the gallant to a Lancer or Atrapos to finish anything left in combat.

 

Lots of choices of where to go and try and go ahead of the knight meta :-)

So the blog arises once more with battle on the horizon!

 

I'm running a tournament the first weekend of Feb; 50 players; so a lot of time has gone into terrain making of late.

 

But following that I've got a ticket for Throne of Skulls in March and Heat 2 in August.

 

So that brings me back to thinking about my army lists for both, and since CA2018 has now hit, I need to rethink the pure knight list and therefore am looking at bring in some AdMech allies.

 

1750 tournament coming up, since it have CA missions which really need support from smaller troops, I'm thinking of taking a detachment of AdMech

I'm thinking Mars for the detachment but could be swayed elsewhere, Graia for the deny strat or Stygies for the -1 hit.

 

Do I need the Neutrons or is an icarus array or two better?

I’d imagine you’d get a lot more mileage with Icarus. Covers your anti air/eldar. Your knights have anti armour in the form of a lancer and the thermal spear. Neutrons are cool but can be so swingy. If it were me I would avoid mars unless you take Cawl. Then mars is awesome. Graia or stygies is a safe bet. Tough call there but it really depends on your expected matchups. Stygies probably edges it just

Wouldn't hurt taking an Iccarus array for just in case. They will wreck air units pretty hard, which means Eldar lists won't like you. Plus the knights should be able to hunt down enemy armour pretty easily.
