Rhivan
Hey guys you've probably seen me post a few things around here before but I've had a project log for my Dark Eldar for quite some time (although my activity is sparce) and since I was planning on doing an update today I thought I'd start posting my stuff here. So you'll probably be able to tell but I'm going with a Necromantic theme with my Dark Eldar. Talos Pain Engines Incubi Clawed Fiends / Grotesques Mandrakes / Wyches Dark Reapers (Made outta spare stuff so they're bad) I apologize for the image quality on some of the photos I got a new phone which unfortunatley has a worse camera than my old one. WarriorFish
Nothing like a new codex for some motivation ;) I like the Wyches, a little can go a long way but agreed on the Dark Reapers it just doesn't work  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5045000 Share on other sites
Harrowmaster
Very cool and creative, good work. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5045098 Share on other sites
Lord Asvaldir
Looking real good man, especially liking the feel of the talos/grotesque models. Rhivan
I've finally settled on my paint scheme So I have a wash or two left on these guys but I thought I'd post my progress I've made with them. I'd also like to mention that the Incubi are the first models I've actually finished (or nearly have) the most I've done previously was a base coat so these are my first painted models! I've also started painting my first ever conversion in the scheme (they were the first test subjects) Overall I actually have quite a few plans conversion wise (right now waiting on some orders, and I'm going to try and dabble in casting Executioner, and Shadow Warrior Heads as I need them moving forward as the lack thereof is my biggest problem currently) I'm making a Zombie Dragon Tantalus conversion that is going pretty well, as well as fixing, stripping, and magnetizing my models (as my current method of transport has damaged my raiders, and knocked a sword off a grotesque, and the long handle on my leaping talos) I also have a new Haemonculus, Succubus, and Archon conversions on the way overall if I keep myself motivated and painting/converting this year will be my most active one my a longshot. Overall tell me what you guys think I'd love to see your comments and can't wait to see what you say. (Also I'm going to start updating all my project logs simultaneously from now on so you guys will start seeing stuff I did on the Dark City going forward) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5064547 Share on other sites
Rhivan
Sorry for my lack of updates I've been awaiting the kits I ordered (especially the Executioners) and I've made some results on my Mandrakes which are only lacking the spirit hosts on their bases (1 squad remaining to be built) Now in some of the older stuff I've seen (and also eye of error) there are mentions of mandrakes dabbling in socery/psykery(?) and with the fluff of them also draining the life essence of their victims and weaponizing it I knew 2 things. 1.) Ghosts NEED to be present on these figures, and 2.) I need to make them look like battlemages... Enjoy (On a side note I claim best mandrake conversions ever of course that is up for debate) So I hope you like them, and please tell me what you think! I really look forward to reading it. EDIT: Think I should add sword sheathes to them? I have quite a few. Vel'Cona
Pretty cool idea! I'm a huge fan of the current Mandrake sculpts but that's a unique take, and I think your kitbash ends up capturing the "spirit" of these guys (pun intended) quite nicely. How are you going to get the Spirit Host models involved, though? Rhivan
Thanks for the compliments :) The mandrake sculpts are certainly great, but a few problems with them are 1.) I have an obsessive need to convert things, 2.) they are finecast, 3.) I have an armor fetish according to the people I share my conversions too, and 4.) I want to add a necromancy theme to my stuff xD (Please take this comedically as that is how I intend it to come out as) How I plan on including the spirit hosts is by having them fly through the ground or basing I add simmilar to this image here (but only 1 host per drake) http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/tgacommunity/monthly_2017_02/IMG_20170203_233901_054.jpg.dfa6d4f5f1376621341cbd3fbbc886c3.jpg So I've finished the other squad (minus the spirit hosts) I hope you guys enjoy :D So I added one guy with a shield just to experiment with things and finally everyone together Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5089800 Share on other sites
Rhivan
Well small update for now. I've done a little painting (you'll be able to see what I've started on in the back of pic 3) it's not much unfortunately but it's a start. So what you see here are the wyches of my kill team. In the Nightsworn not only are there kabalites trained in ranged warfare, but there are some who are trained in melee, as they have many foes who fight in close quarters and relying solely on wyches would be disadvantageous if there was ever a betrayal. Rhivan
You know I only just realized I haven't shared my Archon with you guys. Well here goes (how well do you think he matches up with the Wyches?) Admittedly not my most unique conversion but I plan on making another Archon that I hope will surpass this one (although I think I may have to buy another Visarch if nothing else for the legs or Torso) BTW should I move this thread over to the Work In Progress section of Bolter & Chainsword? EDIT: Also quick mention of the mandrakes. I haven't gotten around to doing anything with them yet, although the Lord Executioner's ghosts flying around him will be more convenient/useful for putting on my mandrakes and not competing for space as much. But I'll probably mix and match to see how things go. Rhivan
Minor update. I'm slowly dragging myself out of my hiatus from modeling I've put myself in with a conversion and a painted model. The latter is not done yet but posting this helps motivate me xD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5240669 Share on other sites
Rhivan
So I don't have any new models I've kept playing with painting so that is the update you'll see. I'm really liking how I paint ice. Like a lot. As for the dark metal I have two main ways I've been painting it and this is the newer way I'm testing. I should've done the former method on the raider but I've never washed a vehicle before so I didn't know the consequences. Overally after I did a hasty fix it's good enough for the base (note I haven't touched the sail area or added a new sail (old one fell off as this was a used model) For the infantry I'm actually disappointing how the paint job turned out. I like the idea as what I really want is (Metallic) Black Armor with golden trim with purple cloth. Problem is I have no earthly clue how to paint in general (i'm picking things up) but atm have no idea how to edge highlight effectively and well it made me do a poor paintjob on probably my favorite mandrake :/ If you guys have any tips or tricks on painting & highlighting I'd GREATLY appreciate them. Otherwise lemme know what you think I'd really appreciate some comments & criticisms on this one. Rhivan
Alright guys so some good news! (Yay) I have a few big projects under way. 1.) Trying to find out how to turn a Zombie Dragon into a Tantalus, 2.) A daughters of Khaine battleforce I need to convert into a Wych Cult, 3.) A bunch of Haemonculus coven stuff coming including Khainite Talos Pain Engines, more Wracks, and a new and improved batch of Grotesques based off of my previous ones but IMO better (I'm currently waiting on my bits to arrive for this) 4.) A new Harlequin army themed off of the Mandrake Conversions (which will eventually be replaced as I do concede they don't fit the Mandrake aesthetic...(I'm looking at alternatives which include kitbashing the Chainrasp horde with Eldar bits) So I only have results for 2 & 3 (although I honestly plan on focusing on 3 & 4 in the near future) I hope you guys enjoy! Now the Harlequin army is actually themed as my Archon's special forces so imagine an army of these guys and you have the general idea of my (very expensive) plan. Rhivan
Alright a WIP that I'm waiting to set and paint but... behold my Talos Khaine Engine! and thank you so much steamius for replying Yeah looking back it's such a great image. (I didn't realize the temporary names are shown... I'm gonna have to put a little more thought in the names xD So Soul, I'm currently considering the magmadroth from the fyreslayers for it. In other news another talos tail came in as well as 60 kabalite legs. WarriorFish
Looks pretty cool, where did the sword come from? I think your recent models suffer from not having enough of a 40k feel to them yet. Adding some guns and gubbins would go far, but I imagine it's easier still for the constructs could do some vials and pipes and such to give them that lab grown appearance? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345779-kabal-of-the-nightsworn-project-log/#findComment-5273977 Share on other sites
Rhivan
The sword is from the Iron Statue of Khaine, same as the body. As for the latest model it does have a gun. The Talos tail is there and actually pointed at the Camera. I understand what you mean about my models not looking sci-fi/40k enough though. Personally I really like the more fantasy look for my models (in fact I'm a huge medieval armor fan which affects what I wanna have for my army) , but I don't think it's actually to far fetched for the setting. The Visarch model has a ton of tie ins with fantasy high elves where he could easily fit in as a AoS High Elf far better than he meshes with any other range. (I could go on about how I hope that future Ynnari models will have a simmilar aesthetic but that is beyond the point) You'll be seeing a better mixture of the fantasy and 40k in the future (Kabals will be the easiest to represent this) But the current stuff I'm working on is CqC units and as such they will suffer a more fantasy feel. Rhivan
So since I've shown you guys 1 WIP already here is WIP #2 I'm going to start posting more pictures as that keeps me motivated better as well as let you guys see how things are going. The current picture has Druchii Violet drying on the wings.
