ChazSexington
Not sure what you're asking, but I think Renegade Chapters biker with triple melta is decent! Advance, fire, charge and tie up shooty units. Here's 3 of my White Scars turned Red Corsairs. I'm working on 3 more melta bikers and 1 Chaos Lord on a bike. Panzer
I was about to say that I don't see the point in such big biker units but I guess if your local meta plans to use the rule of 3 recommendation then you'd have to take big units for a bike themed army. If not, then go with smaller units so you get more special weapons and all the other MSU benefits. My post wasn't about bikes not being great. It was about big units not being great since they don't give you any advantage over multiple small units (apart from some Stratagems and psychic powers). So if you can play without the rule of 3 then just take the same amount of bikes but only small units so you can take more special weapons overall. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347996-white-scars-renegades-project-oblivion-hunters/#findComment-5101824 Share on other sites

The idea initially was to use them as kind of a tar pit to keep my opponent in their deployment zone to prevent them from getting objectives. ^_^ But if the rule of three goes away, and I honestly don't think it should, then having smaller bike squads would be better for sure! Panzer
Keep in mind that it's no actual rule. It's a recommendation just like the Detachment limit. Aothaine
So I'm trying to figure out how to model the bikers on my bikes. I have a few spare terminator helms and I'm wondering if that might be something I could do that is a little unique to these guys. I'm not really a fan of painting flesh. What do you guys think? Use normal space marine terminator helms on the bikers? Yes? No? I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. Got the first bike cleaned and ready to go. Just need to build the biker. Building the champion first so he will have the power axe I scavenged from a Space Marines Assault Squad Box. Nothing too fancy... but these guys only recently fell to chaos imho. Also purchased all the paints I think I will need to finish this model up. I might be able to finish the model this weekend if I can get the biker built and primed early enough. I'll post an update as soon as possible. They can soak most T1 Overwatch, tie up something nasty and shooty (at the very least), and then wait for something nastier... Like Khorne Berzerkers in Rhinos. I would probably go Icon of Excess on them, especially if they're Renegades. 20" move + charge should be enough for most things. So I'm trying to figure out how to model the bikers on my bikes. Multiple smaller units have basically the same board presence as one bigger unit plus the advantage to be able to split up and cover more of the board. So they actually have more board presence if anything. Overwatch shouldn't be any issue at all as long as you don't try to charge something like the 3d6 S7 AP2 D2 flamer on the new Knight. The only real difference is that unit-wide buffs are more efficient on big units but I think that is often easily balanced out by being able to take more special weapons etc. when taking multiple smaller units instead. Overwatch is a bit of an issue tbh, at least as far as I'm concerned. It won't help against Knights anyway, as they can just step out and fire all over again. Multiple smaller units is also, in what is the current standard, limited to a maximum of three units per datasheet. Being able to trap something in CC by physically making it impossible to Fall Back is also easier with bigger units. Also, if you're running triple meltas and a powerfist, with re-rolls from a Lord and Prescience, you can encircle transports, blow them up in the Shooting Phase, prevent anything from getting out, then charge whatever's nearest and hide in CC. I'm not saying large biker squads are great, just how it could work. I think they're a fairly average unit, but improved immeasurably with Renegade Chapters. If they're White Scars, get the White Scars upgrade pack. Order a few of their FW torso and helmet upgrades from eBay. Mix in both CSM and SM bits. Panzer
Multiple smaller units is also, in what is the current standard, limited to a maximum of three units per datasheet. Hence why I said if you can play without the "rule of 3" since it's not a rule at all and there are groups who don't use it believe it or not. Your other points I simply don't agree with. You can do the exact same things with multiple smaller units. Talking about the Renegade trait, that's even more reason to not use such big units. While you can advance, shoot and then charge with Melta and Flamer it also means you can't use all the Bolter you've on your Bikes (that's quite a few Bolter shots) and Bikes themselves aren't that great in melee. If you advance&charge with bikes it's to bind a target. That's a support/utility task. A big Bike unit is way too expensive for that. For big Bike units it's better to not advance and use the Slaanesh Stratagem/VotL/Prescience (aka the usual stuff) to maximize the damage you can do with all the Bolter and special weapons. In that case you are better off with a different Legion trait. In that case you are better off with a different Legion trait. I think this is a valid strategy with space marine bikers or and scout bikers. But the Chaos Bikers actually get chainswords. They are going to be good for locking the opponent into their deployment zone for at least a turn or two while I move into something a bit scarier that is slower like Three Khorne Daemon Princes. I've worked out two possible lists now. One using a Bloodletter bomb and the other a supreme command detachment with three of the Khorne DPs from the Daemons book. I'm still not sold on the lists yet. I do want them to be fluffy and have both Khorne Daemons and Khorne White Scars Renegades. I'm looking into possibly running some flesh hounds with the White Scars as well. I think that could be really cool. The bikers really are there for just the Rule of Cool and to make the theme work correctly. Also, since I'm using them as chaff I don't really want to put a powerfist or melta guns on them. I know they can be useful and I might break and decide to do it eventually, but for now, I don't think that it is something I should do right now.. EDIT: I have decided to swap out the black armor for white. This is a White Scars Renegade army and it would make sense that their armor was still partly white. I think it will also make the red pop out more. EDIT II: I also don't want to spend money setting up biker units that I'm going to have to change drastically or possibly replace entirely if I do give them those weapons. I plan on having at least 6 melta gun arms and 3 combi-melta arms with magnets though. So maybe I can just magnetize them all.. I'll have to think about it some more. EDIT III: Forgot to pick up the white paint and other paints I need for the brass. Going to have to wait until the 23rd to get the paints. However, it will give me time to build and prime up the three bikers. I have one built so far with a power sword and power fist with magnets that just pop on. Messed up the magnet for my one remaining power axe so I will have to wait a bit more for that. Beachymike123
Great theme for your army. Of the loyalist legions, the sons of the Khan are my favourite. Great to see them on the true side of the Long War. I think the white would stand out more, but could also be used to denote champions? Clan/tribal markings could also look great on a white background. Best of luck with your army. Death to the False Emperor. Aothaine
Thank you, everyone. Going to get getting the first biker primed up this week. I still need to finish up a Deatchwatch model I'm working on for the B&C fundraiser. Once that is done I'll be digging into this biker. Going to prime white. But I want to paint it as a dirty white. Going with Agrax Earthshade into the nooks and crannies of the armor and bike. I'll get some pictures posted as soon as possible. Aothaine
Working on a new list for this army. I'm trying to add in three melee focused Helbrutes that will hopefully crash into the enemy on turn 2 to help mop up the remainders of the enemy after my bikers mow through their lines. Just curious what everyone's thoughts were on melee helbrutes. Do you think they can make it into the enemy lines? Are they worth their cost when they do? Aothaine
Been awhile since I've been here. Had some near-death experiences. But I'm finally back on track. Yay me! Anyway, going to start working on this project again slowly. Most of my stuff in is storage for now but I'm really curious if my ideal lists will still work when the Chaos Space Marines Codex is reworked. Hope so. However, the new loyalist Marine codex reveals basically kind of made everything cool about the new codex terrible. A Chaos Biker Gang is still a good stratagy though. Starved on command points unless you play them Red Corsairs from the Vigilus Ablaze book. They're really good in that.
