Best Way to Set Up Deathwatch for Kill Team?

Is this a DW logo? I'm searching to find something that would be easy and clear to use on custom dice. I like this one a lot but I don't know if it's DW or not.

I know this one is but not sure how the skull will show up without having much of a break around it. I'd need a clearer version to submit like the one above anyways.

That skull looks like it’s giggling....

Its because the jaw is on a curve, makes it look like a smile. I think if you could straighten the jaw out it would look better.

I need to contact Chessex for some special logo dice, i wish they were based in the UK, no idea what the shipping will be.

Maybe some Alien Forest or something for the DW box? I can't think of any other alien scenery off the top of my head.

Doesn't matter now. Chessex evidently just recently got into some hot water with GW so they won't do any custom dice with a GW logo. Sucks. So I'm trying to figure out if the first I posted is an actually GW logo and/or if I slightly change the second logo maybe they will do the dice like that.

Can't hurt to ask, see what they say. They definitely can't know every logo that GW uses.

I have an email sent asking about changing the actual icon just enough to skirt GW's grasp and about the first one I posted to see if they'd use it. Even if it's not actually DW I think it works well enough that most people will know what it is. And if not...still looks cool. I think that the skull and crossbones with just the I behind would work. Eliminate the 3 horizontal bars and that should be enough to not have a copyright infringement but I could be wrong about that too. But since I assume Chessex got one of GW's famous letters they might be a bit gun shy to try pushing the limits on what's fair game and what might get them sued.

That is actually Vindicare temple:

Better, but I think it’s the eye sockets. The curve of them gives a laughing appearance to me. Still would look great as a six on a set of dice, so hopefully you can use it.

Yeah, I agree. Compare it to top skull, which gives stern look impression, this one barely contains laughter.

This might be better DW logo:

If you want, I can try to clean it up a bit...

I do like that one. But Chessex know's it's a GW logo and won't do it. They did say they'd do the Vindicare logo however.

But...if you don't mind cleaning it up just a bit...I found another place that does custom dice....I can see if they will do them with the actual DW logo. Not sure if they have a minimum order but if so...maybe a group buy? If they will that is. Chessex has a minimum but only 10 dice which is very reasonable for one person. But I know a lot of custom work requires a much larger amount.

Guys we have started to wander pretty far from Kill Team here. Could we get it back on track?

By all means feel free to start a new thread. The dice looks great. Actually it reminds me of our BnC logo quite a bit.... maybe too much.

To bring us back on topic, to some degree:

I'm brand new to Deathwatch.  I bought a single Deathwatch Kill Team box, because the game is called Kill Team.  Looking to work with what I've got.

Here's what I've got so far.

Watch Sergeant - Leader (Boltgun, Power Sword)

Black Shield - Combat (Power Maul, Mace)

Veteran Gunner - Demolition (Infernus Heavy Bolter)

Veteran - Sniper? (Stalker Pattern Boltgun)

?

This comes to 72 points so far, unless I'm messing something up completely.  I'm trying to decide what to do with the final member of my team.  I'm thinking of doing a Gunner with a frag cannon, because I've got the points for it, but I'm uncertain if three ranged, one melee, and a hybrid sergeant is a wise use of my points.  Is there a clearly superior option I'm missing?

I built my Deathwatch Kill Team last night - aka Killteam Genericus:

Watch Sergeant - Combi-Plasma and Xenophase blade (Leader)

Gunner - Frag Cannon (Demolitions)

Gunner - Infernus Bolter (Heavy)

Veteran - Bolter and power sword

Veteran - Bolter and power sword

I have parts to swap out a Veteran for a Blackshield with power weapon and storm shield which could be a laugh.

I think I have another squad to build to try something different too (I'm sure I bought a killteam box and you got 5 Deathwatch marines in Death Masque...)

You can have another specialist here if you wanted, the Leader doesn't count as one unless you're doing this specifically for Fire team experience in a campaign.

The one thing I'll say about your Watch Sgt is he's kind of pricey, and I wouldn't put him in melee without replacing his gun with a Storm Shield.  He costs 23pts - at that price you could field an Intercessor Sgt & Chainsword for 20pts or P-Sword @ 22.  I find it really hard to use the Watch Sgt as the leader @ 1W if he costs as much as a model with 2W.

Here's what I was recommended recently...thoughts? I didn't tally up the points so I'm assuming it's close to 100 points. I'm starting to put together models now...prepping parts at least.

Team #1 - Maul/shield black shield, infernus bolter, stalker bolter, sergeant with xenophase and combi melta, frag cannon (or thunder hammer)

Team #2 - 2 frags, 1 infernus, 1 combi-plasma/xeno blade (Sgt), 1 Bolter/sword (Blackshield), 2 Bolter/storm shield, 3 Bolter/sword (or power maul)

I'm thinking #2 is just a suggestion on how to build up the 10 minis I have (2 Kill Team boxes).

My general opinion is if you take a Black Shield or Master Sgt with a Xenophase - you want them in melee, and in that case they need to survive long enough to get there, aka need a Storm Shield.  The entire point of a Black Shield is for the melee - don't give him a gun.

Team #2 - a DW Veteran cannot take a bolter + Storm Shield (the SS replaces the bolter).

The issue I have with a Combi-Plasma + Xenophase Blade on a Master Sgt is you're practically begging the enemy to wreck him ASAP - that's 23pts for a 1W model.  Either take a really cheap leader and keep him in the back, or something with more survivability / cost effective.  Combi-Plasma + XB = 23pts; meanwhile you could take an Intercessor Sgt with Power Sword for 22pts or a Reiver Sgt for 19-22 and have 2W.  A Watch Sgt with a Storm Shield + Xenophase Blade is 22pts, but at least has a 3+ Invuln.

Watch Sgt with XB + Combi-Melta makes more sense, but is still a pricey dakka magnet.
