MaliGn's Underhive Adventure - she's so hot, she's on fire

Congratulations on a completed gang!
Lucy is a nice conversion. i imagine her weaving between las-fire bolts.

For NMM, you need greater contrast still. Deeper shadows, pushed to almost black and brighter highlights with dots of pure white in places where light is caught in it's fullest. But it is a journey to get that feel right, so keep trying!

Thanks, it was my first attempt at doing an NMM effect in a colour rather than a standard metal colour. Ah well, I'll chalk it up to experience. The gang's far from done I think there's four finished models now!

Top notch, great highlighting on the blue, it's really electric!

Thanks, she casts electric shadows after all ;-)

I've made a start on a hanger-on in the form of the dome runner converted from a wild runner body.

Mostly just base colours at the moment I'm thinking that as a Dome Runner and not a full-gang member I'll be aiming to have a slightly more muted effect for her clothes and gear, but maintaining Escher flair, I think I will aim to do this by adding grime and dirt after getting the colours down.

So I finished the Dome Runner,

Jaqq B Quikk has taken on the house tradition of spending time away from the house territories out in the Wyld, she's still scraping together the reputation and skills to be considered a full Gang Prospect and Would Runner by in the meantime making ends meet by selling her services as a guide to any Gang who'll pay!

Since finishing her off I've made a steady start on a Little Sister, deliberately aiming to restore the difference between Ganger and Juve from the original metals by using a Sister Repentia as the base thanks to the new plastics having vest tops similar to the original metal Juves

PXL_20221006_174119058.thumb.jpg.3350757a99a2ca935cf1386a0efbc05c.jpg

Early stages yet, but I've worked a few layers up on the skin.

Spent some time working on the Little Sister, still a fair way to go but some places are nearly there I think.

Aimed for a sheer effect stocking, as I was working with the base model's features and the garter belt made more sense than some kind of Repentia-self torture device! I think I got the effect of a sheer material ok. The rest at this point is mainly basecoats and a few early highlights.

Still open to ideas for the ribbon ganging from her waist...

I finished my Escher Little Sister "Cry Baby", I'm pleased with how she's turned out, I'm conscious that as a Juve she might not have the funds for the flashy off-world exotics sported by the senior members of the gang, so she adds flair on a budget with a strand of Hazard tape hung from her belt.

That caution tape is genius, never would have thought of it!

Thanks! It was a flash of inspiration as I started to basecoat it with a vague idea of a tiger Stripe pattern! Now it's a concept to emulate across future Juves, the idea of cheap punk rock bling!

Built another reworking of a classic metal Ganger, since blasting an opponent off a gantry is so Necromunda I felt it was time to do the OG shotgun girl.

I'd like to find some shells to go on her arm like the original, thinking either from a CSM bolter or a Cawdor part. Also thinking of replicating the ring on her forehead with GS.

While I was at the hardware store the other day I picked up some 5mm ply and took advantage of their cutting service to make the bases for making tiles.

Tiles are made, keeping them plain for now, I may do more in the future with extra details and holes and whatnot, for now I'm keen to get them made as flat boards, painted up and varnished, I may well then build fixed pieces on top on some so I can have a mix of scenery pieces and open space for freestanding terrain elements.

PXL_20221020_162258373.thumb.jpg.c4e64284041f99936217ad82f92cb70b.jpg

With the plywood backing they weight about 330g each so the 3x3 board is about 3 kilosPXL_20221020_162428681.thumb.jpg.dc97f8613863cab1f259611bc69a6a82.jpgPXL_20221020_162453101.thumb.jpg.89973beb89d00efa6dee025115bd9f65.jpg

They are approx 11" square so that makes a 33"x33" board which seems ok for necromunda, might need more if I want to use them for 40k so I'll be on the look out for an alt design to mix them up.

Took a break from the tiles while the primer was curing and thought I'd work on an idea I've had floating around for a few months, basically since I saw this artwork for the Apprentice Clan Chymist.

c0X0u7u10kIh2KqJ.thumb.jpg.a19327453eec0d9566e681c79ad1b93e.jpg

Here's where I got to:

PXL_20221022_200345557.thumb.jpg.7ffdc61efa38fd65b13139e22980dd48.jpg

This is mostly just getting parts selection in order, obviously need to do the apron.

I've pretty much decided to turn the tanks on the back the other way up and I've been thinking about modifying the first position and the needle pistol to be more akin to the picture.

1085394329_PXL_20221022_2003455572.thumb.jpg.8965af868421795aa77c124a2b92c49e.jpg

Quick mockup of what the pistol would look like without the needle tip.

Bit more progress on the Chymist,

as you can see I've made the apron and modified the pistol, still thinking of taking the needle tip off to make it a hypo-spray.

PXL_20221023_091925354.thumb.jpg.45c430609ba34e87ba629964e06771c0.jpgPXL_20221023_092000517.thumb.jpg.d087983479d0572ec1832a795d16778a.jpg

I'm also pretty sure that gubbins at the top is the way to go with the tanks. Open to ideas mind.

Oh and returning to a half-done project I mocked up the kennel on one of the new tiles.

PXL_20221023_110555451.thumb.jpg.8121afcedc911c1e882e66c834936f45.jpg

Think I'll put another piece of the ruined factoring in the opposite corner just to fill out the tile a bit.

Bit more work on the shotgun toting Gang Sister, went with light coloured gear to stand out against the darker skin, still a fair amount to do until I'm happy, but pleased with what's starting to come together.

I'm quite pleased with how the hair has turned out. Just by basecoating and then using a succession of washes and re-applications of the base colour I think I've created something quite textured and vibrant.

Last night I spent a bit of time painting the first of my DIY zone Mortalis tiles.

PXL_20221027_210021727.thumb.jpg.77695a394e1918ec194aa727bac1a851.jpgPXL_20221027_210031129.thumb.jpg.38572e2a11e25751730680e98447a42f.jpg

I may yet go back to add more orange and some metallics before varnishing, but in a short pace of time I think I've got something simple and effective just from stippling browns reds and oranges over the whole thing.

I then tested it out with some walls and models.

now I just need to get the rest done so I can get some games on the go!

Introducing the latest member of the Underhive Harridans: Sumpwater Jacqui (I'll be amazed of anyone picks up the reference) my modern version of the classic ganger with shotgun from the original metal gang box circa 1995.

820659469_PXL_20221029_0911245192.thumb.jpg.93d8e9d613489662b0af58821c359ccf.jpgi290271274_PXL_20221029_0911405232.jpg.ed07a7c99b0745bd2a8152d0e1c04b26.jpg1776594476_PXL_20221029_0911513652.jpg.4f64a9e7e9bd380a2db82f7eac4c7c2a.jpg

Here she is with the original for comparison purposes.

I think she's my closest adaptation so far.

Which classic should I revisit next?

so much cool stuff in this thread!

painted up, those tiles you've made look really nice. As you said, they're simple and effective.

I also really like how you're recreating all the classic minis, and I have to say those Jes Goodwin Escher metal minis still really hold up.

Thanks!

I think it's fair to say that most of the old Necromunda stuff had shedloads of character! I find that the new stuff does too to be fair, helped by the sheer variety of available bits between the multiple kits per gang, resin characters, plastic and resin upgrade kits and now the new vehicles as well! It's super easy to make your gang really your own even just working with the stock kits and nothing else.

With the options for multiple loadouts for some gang members I'm looking forward to the challenge of making representations of the same ganger but with a different load out, keeping them identifiably the same person but without duplicating too many parts sounds like an interesting project.

Need to finish the base gang first mind!

Is the reference in the thread title relative to Machinehead?

Fantastic work BTW, such great characters.

Yes it is, although my memory was mis-attributing it to Rage for some reason, probably why the line is also wrong. Ah well.

Anyway back to new painting of stuff, here's some early progress on the apprentice Chymist.

Trying to go for a semi-transparent white plastic effect with the apron.

So, I was sat there thinking my tiles were looking rusty

PXL_20221106_162245076.thumb.jpg.e06716e5628b6b8fe7f90fe293fbbaee.jpg

and then I did a thing

PXL_20221106_162236141.thumb.jpg.145f692eddf4c8a86935f2c8a52d3f41.jpgPXL_20221106_162215729.thumb.jpg.cc91b8effb232ef58e5a462ff0d9a97d.jpgPXL_20221106_162208737.thumb.jpg.956d24a62c49c5064ee4bb7ad533751a.jpg

and then I caught tetanus!

Honestly the stuff is seriously like magic in a bottle!

Obviously I then did all the other boards that were ready so far, along with the base of the drive tower.

1781820318_PXL_20221106_2002445072.thumb.jpg.2405854a503d85bc7bfe600214a88e4a.jpg

And while I was at it I grabbed a shot of the gang so far.

PXL_20221106_200347861.thumb.jpg.3f9504ec860df926f86cef407ad52991.jpg

I realise this isn't a great photo, but the opportunity was too good to pass up.
