For those wondering, the footprint is about 325mm x 250mm and height is 215mm to the top of the platforms. Platforms which can easily accommodate squared 2x2 civitas imperialis buildings, spires components or even Basilicanum statues. Sky is the limit :biggrin.:

Thanks guys! I appreciate!

It can still be improved I guess. At some point, I'll likely add a 3mm thick MDF base. Shrubbery would definitely be a great addition and break the colour of the cliffs. A large jacuzzi on the yard would need some bikini-clad girls to really have the mountain fortress shape up as a proper Bond villain's hideout :biggrin.: The banner could also definitely be improved. The lower part buttresses are a tad simple. So definitely planning to revisit it in the future, but for now it is "done".

Now, I am on a quest to find another pot of Agrax Earthshade because this one is empty

gallery_116407_15011_11269.jpg

It is likely to be an easy quest as I have another full Agrax pot somewhere home, I just need to find where it is :biggrin.:

There are indeed so many possibilities. The only drawback is the number of civitas components that are required if you want huge tall buildings, hence the combination with other, cheaper, materials whenever possible.

I took individual pictures of the stuff is consider finished for the Titans of the Heresy 2020 event. I'll likely revisit some of these at a later stage to add bases, some more details or improve the paint job, the red industrial buildings in particular need a drybrush once I get my hands on the appropriate colour. These are in addition to the mountain fortress I finished earlier.

  • 3 weeks later...

Acheron and Castigator reinforcements have arrived, as well as some Valkyries.

Valkyries are already glued, except for the weapons. For Acherons and Castigators I am in the process of cleaning and gluing in sub-assemblies.

The legs are similar to those of the Lancers but with different poses, so if you have some Lancers not glued yet, it is a good idea to mix the legs with those of the Acherons and Castigators. Two possible mixes: (1) switching a full pair of legs from the Lancers with a full pair of legs from the Acherons and Castigators, (2) switching left and right legs independently of the pairs they initially belong to (this will depend on the legs' respective angles).

I probably won't use magnets for these knights, contrarily to what I did for the Lancers which I built long before knowing if we would get an upgrade sprue or a complete new set.

Time flies, nearly 6 months since my last plog update ... I must admit my motivation in all things is quite low, call it pandemic fatigue ...

But I have eventually started building some titans I bought several weeks ago (I actually stockpiled quite a few things before the end of the year). Here is a quick shot of the assembly line as of tonight: some sub-assemblies are done, all parts shown are cleaned

gallery_116407_14938_21451.jpg

I might be a bit crazy ... but who doesn't like to build some more Reavers :biggrin.: Next steps will involve some magnets and bases.

  • 3 months later...

I have eventually started building my Warmaster titan, as usual I am going through sub-assemblies. I'll refer to the instructions booklet and part numbers. As always, I advise to dry fit before glueing and also to refer to pictures and the instructions booklet.

I have built the torso (steps 25 to 34 and step 37), leaving part B10 unglued as I am considering using magnets for the head. Once glued in place it is quite uneasy to reach the back of this part to add plasticard or sprue to increase contact surface for gluing the magnet. The build is pretty straightforward. I skipped steps 35 & 36 for the moment, the rationale being to leave the carapace bits aside for painting.

I then went for the missile launcher (steps 38 and 39), leaving parts D1 and D2 unglued. This would allow easy access for painting the missile tips. One point of attention when removing the parts from the sprue: don't cut the front of part D3, I nearly did (see picture).

Assembling the bridge (step 41) is straightforward as well.

Same for the pelvis (step 1), where I left part A4 unglued as I am planning adding a magnet there. It shouldn't be difficult to add plasticard to provide a base.

gallery_116407_14938_21025.jpg

I initially put the legs aside as they offer quite some flexibility for posing once removing the various pegs. I did built some sub-parts (steps 2, 3, 5, 7, 9).

gallery_116407_14938_8907.jpg

There is one peg that can be removed from part A24 to allow the piston sliding. How much in or out it will be depends on the position of the foot.

gallery_116407_14938_51810.jpg

Parts A12 and A13 have also pegs which allow for one position only when combined with parts A10-A11 and A19-A20. Do not glue parts A12 and A13 together before combining them with the upper part of the legs, whether you remove the pegs or not.

gallery_116407_14938_54337.jpg

The lateral parts of the knees also have pegs which can be removed. Now, there is a constraint as to the min-max angle that you can go for. More on this later.

gallery_116407_14938_20058.jpg

The heads are straigthforward to build. Again, there is a peg to guide you putting the back part correctly. Some pressure is required to have the parts perfectly fit. I haven't glued them yet as I plan on adding magnets.

gallery_116407_14938_20500.jpg

The way the feet have been engineered is super clever. You have lot of flexibility in positioning the toes once you remove the small pegs. No need for applying brute pressure to bend the toes here or for hacking, slashing or sawing and then rebuild with greenstuff. Also there isn't really a risk for mistaking the front, back and lateral toes. The front toes are the longest ones, the back toes the broadest ones. The feet are also market L for left and R for right.

gallery_116407_14938_4151.jpg

Parts A12 and A13 once the pegs are removed. I went for a clean shave here.

gallery_116407_14938_14699.jpg

Then I glued them, combining upper and lower parts of the legs. Since the pegs are removed, double check that you don't switch back and front before glueing.

gallery_116407_14938_65878.jpg

As I mentioned earlier, there are some constraints to the min-max angle you can go for between the upper and lower parts of the legs. It becomes quite obvious once taking into account the lateral parts of the knees.

More soonish ...

A bit more progress. It is starting to take shape as I focused on giving my Warmaster a rather dynamic pose.

View from above

gallery_116407_14938_38259.jpg

No, it is not levitating :biggrin.: As the titan is rushing forward and quite top heavy, I pinned the right leg with two brass rods. I will elevate the "ground" by about 6mm, this should ensure the pins remain solidly in place. The front toe of the left leg will touch the "ground", adding a bit more stability.

Thank-you for both of the detailed posts, Mendi!

I'm thinking of a similarly non-standing-there pose, and all the information on the various peg will be invaluable when I get to posing the legs.

Have you considered adding Knight head elements to the Warmaster heads, just for a little more variety? I did that to good effect with my Warlord heads, and the scale looks similar enough that you could mix and match...
