Syward
I've settled on a finalized list for my first 2000pts of Deathwatch and I have started assembly and paining of the first 800pts. I've decided that I'll be making my list Watch Company Quintus of Watch Fortress Ghulbain. I've selected Watch Company Quintus because the list will be be an all Primaris list (Excluding the Dreadnoughts & Watch Master) and it seemed fitting that since the Primaris Marines are fairly new for the Imperium, that they'd make up the final Watch Company. Watch Company Quintus will be accompanied by Watch Master Hans Cadmar and supported by three Dreadnoughts and an Epistolary. Syward
Here's some WIP pictures of the start of the project. The Watch Capatain, Librarian and the Intercessors will get a coat of primer and base coat tomorrow morning (if the weather holds up). The Hellblasters & Inceptors have their base coat already, but no pictures yet. I'll add some more images once everyone has a base coat applied. Syward
They look great... really like the Templar Captain. Thanks! The weather seems to be holding up today. I got a coat of primer set up, hopefully I can get to spraying the black base coat on the Intercessors today. I'll be applying the base coat for the Captain & Librarian by hand with a brush though, I want to take extra time with them. I'm the same way, Vallejo Surface Primer by hand for anything that needs a smooth coat. Great work thus far and looking forward to the WIP! Syward
Greeting brothers! I hope everyone in the States had an enjoyable and restful Thanksgiving. I did some work with my Deathwatch project. I made some significant progress with the bases and doing some base coating of the metallic areas on the marines. Here's some WIP shots of the bases. I'm not sure if I'm going to leave the bases as they are and just clean up the rims & edges, or if I'm going to add some rust and patina to them. Right now I think I'm leaning towards leaving them as is. Here's some WIP shots of the initial base coating of the steel and silver metallics. I got a little messy with them, so I'll need to do some touch ups on the black. Syward
I've got some more WIP shots of the Kill Teams on their bases. Their weapon arms aren't glue on yet, and they're not glued to the bases. I just pined them to the bases and used some sticky-tac to hold the arms on so I could use them in my 1st DW game. I'll have a battle report up for my 1st DW game later - spoiler alert: I lost. Badly. LOL. Kill Team Azriel - Sgt. Sorush Azriel of the Flesh Tearers Kill Team Meinrad - Stg. Ulrich Meinrad of the Imperial Fists And here's a WIP shot of the whole army (1st 800 pts) I'm still debating how I'll do the weapons. Initially, I thought I'd do steel w/black weapon casings, but then I went with all steel, but now I'm thinking of either doing red or black on the weapons casings. I'm afraid that all steel weapons would blend in too much with the silver arms. I have decided that the eyes will be red, and all power/plasma weapons will be green. (You can see some color testing on the Librarian & a couple of the Hellblasters.) Vel'Cona
Great to see the WIP continue! I'm not sure the best option for the weapons, though I've seen a ton of great ideas so far in this sub. Have a look around if you're looking for inspiration! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351254-sywards-dw-project-completed-dreadnoughts-0623/#findComment-5201024 Share on other sites
Syward
Yeah, I've been looking at the other great armies in this sub for ideas/inspiration. I think I've decided against red since I'm doing a neon/glowing green for plasma & power effects, (Don't want to look like Santa's little helper marines!) I picked up a Gunmetal Metallic which is a very dark metal, kind of a charcoal/graphite color. I think I'll do a test with Flat black, another test w/the Gunmetal and a test with using the Nuln-Oil on the steel and the Drakenhof Nightshade on the silver, the Nuln Oil should darken the steel up to match the bases and the Nightshade should hopefully give the silver enough of a bluish hue that the steel and silver become very distinct from each other. our_baz
Enjoying looking through your wip. The bases look great, my personal preference would b to grime them up a bit, corrosion etc. For weapon casings I was unsure what to do too. I went black, but used different highlighting method to the armour. To give it a subtle difference. Agree red bolter casings, these belong back in second with goblin green bases. Not that that's a bad thing. Syward
@our_baz: Yeah, I think I'll add some subtle weathering, I like how the bases look now, but I think they're a little too clean. Also, I created a thread to post my DW battle reports. Syward
It's been a little hectic the past few weeks and I haven't been able to get much work done on my DW. I did however get another box of Intercessors to start building out Kill Team Skjold & Kill Team Iolar. I also picked up a couple of Dreadnought kits to take my list up to the 1250pt range (1209pts to be precise). With the points reductions from CA, I can add a 4th Dreadnought and upgrade all 4 to Venerable, which I quite like. I haven't started assembling the new kits yet, but after today's work day, I've got a week of vacation time where I hope to make some progress with the Army, starting with building the new kits, and hopefully getting a coat of Primer & a base coat applied - the weather can't make up it's mind out here, so who knows. I also hope to make some more progress on the painting work I've started with my 1st 800pts. I'll also be simultaneously putting together 1000pts of Khorne Daemons while helping my son put together his new 1250pt Eldar force (Drukhari & Craftworld) this week. So progress may be a little slow on the Deathwatch. (I'm going to fit in some time to play some WoW with my Mrs too. ) I've also decided on a color for my weapon casings. I was inspired by the color scheme of @CMDR_Welles Legion of the Ashen Choir Death Guard army and I'll be using copper for the weapon casings, which is a nice earthy color that will contrast nicely against the black & silver of the DW armor and tie in nicely to the copper I've added to the Sector Mechanicus bases. I'll be trying to get the copper weapon casings painted during this week too. I'll be sure to update with any pictures of the new models and any progress I make with painting. Hopefully I'll have a new battle report to post later in the week either as a rematch against the Necrons or a fresh fight against the Eldar. Here's the revised 2000pt list with the reductions from CA. 2000pts Deathwatch Primaris List ++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Deathwatch) [77 PL, 1325pts] +++ No Force Org Slot +Armory of the Watch Fortress (2 Relics)Gametype: MatchedReference: SIA Weapon Profiles + HQ + Primaris Watch Captain [6 PL, 88pts]: w/Master-crafted auto bolt rifle & bolt pistol & Tome of the Ectoclades - (Watch Captain Reinhold Jarl of the Black Templars) Primaris Librarian [7 PL, 101pts]: 3) Psychic Scourge, 6) Null Zone, Bolt Pistol, Force sword, The Beacon Angelis - (Epistolary Venandi Nex of the Exorcists) + Troops + Kill Team Azriel Intercessors [16 PL, 281pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher. 1x Intercessor Sergeant: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle, & Chainsword . 4x Intercessor: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle . 4x Hellblaster: w/Bolt Pistol, Plasma incinerator. 1x Inceptor w/Two Plasma Exterminators Kill Team Meinrad Intercessors [16 PL, 281pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher. 1x Intercessor Sergeant: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle, & Chainsword . 4x Intercessor: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle . 4x Hellblaster: w/Bolt Pistol, Plasma incinerator. 1x Inceptor w/Two Plasma Exterminators Kill Team Skjold Intercessors [16 PL, 287pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher. 1x Intercessor Sergeant: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle, & Chainsword . 4x Intercessor: w/Auto Bolt Rifle, Bolt Pistol . 4x Aggressor w/Auto Boltstorm Gauntlets & Fragstorm Grenade Launcher. 1x Inceptor w/Two Assault Bolters Kill Team Iolar Intercessors [16 PL, 287pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher. 1x Intercessor Sergeant: w/Bolt Pistol, Bolt rifle, & Chainsword . 4x Intercessor: w/Auto Bolt Rifle, Bolt Pistol . 4x Aggressor w/Auto Boltstorm Gauntlets & Fragstorm Grenade Launcher. 1x Inceptor w/Two Assault Bolters ++ Vanguard Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Deathwatch) [39 PL, 666pts] +++ HQ +Watch Master [7 PL, 130pts]: Lord of Hidden Knowledge, Osseus Key, Warlord - (Watch Master Hans Cadmar of the Imperial Fists) + Elites + Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 128pts]: Heavy Plasma Cannon & Dreadnought CCW w/Storm Bolter - (Ignis, Venerable Dreadnought of the Salamanders) Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 128pts]: Heavy Plasma Cannon & Dreadnought CCW w/Storm Bolter - (Currently unnamed with no Chapter) Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 140pts]: Missile launcher, Twin lascannon - (Hestia, Venerable Dreadnought of the Red Talons) Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 140pts]: Missile launcher, Twin lascannon - (Acier, Venerable Dreadnought of the Howling Griffons) ++ Total: [116 PL, 1991pts] ++ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351254-sywards-dw-project-completed-dreadnoughts-0623/#findComment-5220511 Share on other sites
Syward
Yuletide Blessings, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah & Happy Kwanzaa Brothers & Sisters of the B&C! I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season with family & friends! I've got a brief update to my DW project today. I finished assembly of the Intercessor Marines for Kill Team Skjold & Kill Team Iolar. They'll be accompanied by an Inceptor and 4x Aggressors each sometime in the future. Kill Team Skjold - Stg. Vargar Skjold of the Space Wolves And here's a few images of Sgt. Vargar Skjold. He's my favorite so far. Kill Team Iolar - Stg. Bas Iolar of the Raptors And a couple of images of Sgt. Bas Iolar I also finished assembly of two of the Venerable Dreadnoughts. Venerable Brother Ignis of the Salamanders and Venerable Brother Acier of the Howling Griffons. I've left their weapon arms unglued and the friction fit will be sufficient to hold them in place and I'll be able to swap weapon options around as needed. Venerable Dreadnoughts Ignis & Acier Thanks for looking! Syward
Greetings Brothers & Sisters of the watch! It's been a busy few weeks for me, but I made some time to do some painting work done on my army. I spent pretty much the entire day yesterday painting, and made a lot more progress than I had expected. Nothing's been finished yet, but I'm getting closer. (These are all WIP) I made a lot of progress on my Watch Captain and on my Librarian. Still need to do some touch up work and some edge highlighting. I'm not going for anything too fancy, I just want to get them to a basic table top level so they look good during games. Syward
I also made some progress on Kill Team Azriel and Kill Team Meinrad. I was only able to do some base coating with these guys (had too much fun with the HQ), so I only got their weapons based in copper & green and their pouches, grenades and trinkets based. Syward
Greetings Brothers & Sisters of the watch! It's been a while, things got a little hectic IRL, but I'm back with some updates to my project. I've been working on and making progress with my two Venerable Dreadnoughts, well their legs & weapons any way. I really like how the plasma came out using Hexwraith Flame over the Ceramite White base gave a pretty cool effect. I'm also quite happy with the Khorne Red on the weapons, and will likely go back and change all the weapons for my army to DW standard issue red. I've still got some shading to do on the secondary colors, text on the scrolls & seals and I still need to apply edge highlights, but these parts are nearing completion and then I can get started on the main sarcophagus bodies. Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it! (not sure how much is my skill vs how much is "GW's skill in a pot", aka Shades. LOL) And these will definitely be a completed models. I've actually got the main body assemblies base coated and sitting on my desk. I'll be painting them up and doing final assembly as soon as I finish the legs & arms. I want to do the bodies last to give them some extra attention to detail. I'll be posting the WIP on the bodies as well as the finished models in this thread. Syward
It's been a little while, but I've made some more progress on my Venerable Dreadnoughts. I'm just about finished with the arms. I got edge highlights (sloppy) applied to the right arms and finished the seals and the parchment. I also finished up the legs. I tried dry brushing for the highlights on one of them. (Left in pictures) I think I like the results better, but I'm not sure. All that I have left is some highlights on the left arms, to finish the missiles and do all the lenses then I can start on the torsos. Syward
I'm almost done with my two Venerable Dreadnoughts. I officially finished the arms, legs & bases last weekend and got started on their torsos. I made some pretty decent progress, all I have left to do is some details on the torsos (purity seals, skulls, lenses, etc) and some highlighting and these will be marked as completed!
