BLACK BLΠFLY
I have created this to be a subforum to promote the love of Primaris Marines. I can tell you as a FB user there are plenty of groups that have thousands or more users and there is a lot of love. Tell us here what it is you love the most about them. kombatwombat
The thing I love most about PriMarneus is that he heralds the move of all Space Marines to Primaris. One day we will have Primaris Characters, Terminators, Tacticals, Crusaders, Vanguard... Once everything is Primaris, nothing is Primaris. And on that sweet, joyous day, I can finally just use my OldMarines as counts-as Primaris of their respective flavours, and at long last, have offical rules 2W/2A Space Marines. Praise be to the God-Emperor. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351511-what-do-you-like-about-primaris/#findComment-5201578 Share on other sites

Kinstryfe
Mostly it means that GW wanted to pay homage to one of the oldest special characters with a fancy new updated model. I think it looks pretty snazzy, especially with the helmet. I don't think it means much more than that. Acebaur
I hated primaris for a long time. I still hate their fluff, which is god awful. However, I've come to really like the intercessor models and have picked up some for KT. Also the Kromlech Templar Primaris What I like most is that they are actually imposing compared to the other races. ashc
Primaris are the new black (especially if they are Templars, or Deathwatch like mine!) The models are fantastic - what marines should have always been. What I like with the Marneus release is that it has shown that in the storyline they can now convert standard marines in to primaris ones - and that opens the floodgates to some awesome future possibilities. ...they just need to sort out marine's dreadful codex now! Canadian_F_H
I posted this elsewhere today, but it meshes with acebaur's post in every way... left to right. Primaris with a few Templar bits... This eveing's WIP "true scale templar"... And the next one up for conversion present for comparison purposes. Like ace. I don't like the fluff behind the primaris. The models next to IG and such are as imposing as they should have always been. So I'm going to "fix" my old marines and bash Templar bits onto primaris. I found my peace with what I didn't like, made a plan, declared a crusade and moved on. Happily I might add. In The long run the "truescalin" I will do is definitively finite. I will end, and my forces will be visually inline (reasonably...to my eyes at least) with all future releases. After that? All GW Marines will be truescale frm here on out! That's honestly a perfect solution for anybody not liking Primaris. Your converted Templar should be about the same height as the new Deathwatch, TSons, DG and Black Legion models which is a good size for Marines imo and still smaller than Primaris Marines to keep them as two separate kinds of Marines. And if GW eventually gets rid of regular Marines then he's tall enough to use as (not-)Primaris model without it looking weird. ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351511-what-do-you-like-about-primaris/#findComment-5201633 Share on other sites
Closet Skeleton
The best thing about PriMarneus is that he's not a lieutenant. Plastic characters are unprofitable so its unlikely that we'll see the entire metal/finecast range updated but I expect we'll get a Dante and Azrael. The thing I love most about PriMarneus is that he heralds the move of all Space Marines to Primaris. One day we will have Primaris Characters, Terminators, Tacticals, Crusaders, Vanguard... That's just a guess. If they wanted Primaris tacticals they would have just made them (outside of Death Watch who basically get them). At the Vigilus weekend they said that they think the marine book is too stuffed, so its more likely that the Primarisisation of the range will reduce it at least until they inevitably creep it back up. Guest MistaGav
With the number of lieutenants, captains and other primaris characters, you are mighty close to being able to run an army of nothing but HQ choices. Would make for a cool narrative scenario or bringing back the psuedo 'Movie-marines' type list. apologist
All things being equal, I think Primaris are what Space Marines would have been had they been introduced to the game now, with no previous history. The stripped-back aesthetic is closer to the Rogue Trader marines than the richly decorated (some would say Flanderised) modern marines. Their setup helps straighten out a few 'fridge logic' problems with the overall setting as it has developed – bumped-up stats and improved weaponry to distinguish them from other Imperial factions; high-tech hover tanks (rather than the WWII tech that overlaps with the guard) and so forth. It's opened up some more design space in a setting that (for historical real world reasons) described things as stagnant. Now, the background feels forced to me; the execution has been awkward, and the rules might leave something lacking; but as a fundamental change to the iconic unit of the game universe, I think it was a fairly brave attempt that largely succeeded. It introduced a force of 'movie marines' that better reflect the modern artwork and background without being a hard reset or retcon. I can quite understand that collectors or gamers with older models might feel a bit aggrieved; but the change in aesthetic is something that's happened to every army (compare RT-era Eldar or Orks with their modern equivalents). It's just more noticeable with marines owing to their popularity. Having collected marines in various sizes (from RT to standard to converted 'truescale'), it's always been led by the art for me. Primaris models look the part to my eye; and are relatively easy to convert to match the older armour marks that I largely prefer. As mentioned below, the background is not really my cup of tea (it feels a bit forced), but I'm more than happy to explore the past of the setting a bit – hence my interest in M35. Like the change in aesthetic from Kev Adam's orks to Brian Nelson's orks, there will be some who come on board specifically for the new style; others who simply don't like the new ones and stick with the older type; and some who gradually move over. That's the joy of physical models: they don't become defunct or superceded like (say) a computer program. On Calgar specifically, I like the precedent he sets: that iconic older characters will receive new sculpts. Beyond that, the fact that the box will say 'Primaris' makes no difference to me. Ishagu
Primaris are the best thing that has happened to Astartes. The range was desperately in need of two things: -Re-sizing them to be more in line with the rest of the models from other factions. -Streamlining the range and the rules. The classic Marines were a bloated, redundant mess. 20+ tanks, 6+ variants of Terminators, Dozens of Dreads, multiple useless units with repeating wargear and statlines that makes the line difficult to balance. The new Marines are no longer generalists on a unit by unit basis, but instead have specialist units that are fit for specific jobs. This makes me very, very happy. Marines are no longer a legacy army with a design that dates back to the small Skirmish game 40k started out as. The future is bright! I'm hoping we see more Primaris characters soon, but they should kill some off too (And not because they failed the upgrade process but in glorious battle). Dante, Tigurius, Mephiston, Azrael are in need of an upgrade. Cyrox
I think Primaris are fantastic. Ok, their fluff might not appeal to some, but i don't mind it at all. The SM range was in need of a re-vamp. Size creep meant that some of the most popular models were too small, and units were starting to get a bit too blingy - Plastic Sternguard i'm looking at you and your robed legs! I have a massive bits box with SM bodies, legs arms etc, and even though most of it wil be useless now, i know the arms and pads, plus weapons can used for Primaris conversions so I'm not too fussed. The Rubicon Primaris devices is an interesting plot device, and will allow GW to update some classics like Ragnar, Dante, Azreal and give them the leader model they deserve I think they'll restrict to heroes though, at least for now. According to WHW open day reports, it nearly killed Calgar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351511-what-do-you-like-about-primaris/#findComment-5201715 Share on other sites
Robbienw
I've found one thing I love about Primaris, the Dark Angels accessory sprue. Ishagu
I love how much better the models look on the tabletop. I was showing off some of my Minis to my better half and she made comments about how some of the dudes look better and more chunky, I then explained to her why they are so and that there's been a backlash from some people online. She says the new guys clearly look better Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351511-what-do-you-like-about-primaris/#findComment-5201734 Share on other sites
Robbienw
Ishagu showing something miniature to his girlfriend has given me a terrible mental image :yuck:  I forgot to add the Dark Angel Lieutenant, he has some cool bits as well, I have used his sword for a Company Veteran, and will use his hooded head on another mini, possibly a deathwing knight. And the angry grimacing head from the Intercessor sprue, its one of the best bare marine heads available. grailkeeper
I dont like their fluff and would have preferred if GW just said it was new armour or scaling. Their models are nice but I'd have preferred if the helmets looked more like the old helmets- in particular if they kept the iconic vaderesque mouth grille. The fact that regular marines can be upgraded is cool. I think its interesting that there is talk of them dying and makes the upgrade inherently risky. It gives a good fluff reason why some may chose not to upgrade as they prefer to die on their feet than on the operating table. I think to really make it work GW will probably have to kill off a couple of marines. These could be marines that we have never heard of before but it would also be a way of getting rid of a few characters that never had models or that have been floating around in the fluff not doing much. Obviously it would suck if a well loved character died this way but done well it could advance the story whilst tidying up the house. Guest
Saw a repulsor without the boxes and turret. It actually looked good. Looked like a modernized grav-rhino which I would expect to be the next gerneration of transports. Then saw someone put a predator turret which seems larger on it. Again it looked like a grav-predator and an actual tank. The balance of the repulsor is off. It's too "busy" and the turret is too small for it's size to be a tank and to big to be a transport. Marshal Rohr
The new Calgar has some throwbacks to the definitive art for him on the 4th Edition Kopinski cover. The armor is a good starting point but it needs a lot of additional work to match the detailing and craftsmanship on that piece. I’m not sure what the jump pack intake things are, but removing those will go a long way to shoring up his classic look. Blindhamster
its true, this thread was made by a frater to give a specific place for people to talk about what they like and hope to see in the future.Constructive negative stuff should be reasonably fair though (so what exactly is it about things people don't like, trying to be objective about it on both sides, rather than "it sucks" or "its ugly" which is totally subjective. I personally find the slightly more reserved detailing to be very pleasing as its just neater and should be a bit more straightforward to paint, particularly for beginners. Equally for someone that genuinely wants to make it more fancy, nothing stops people doing some freehand edge detailing in gold - could look pretty boss actually like that as they can be much finer than plastics realistically allow for. Robbienw
I would have prefered that if they had kept the helmet grill like the mk7 as well. Its iconic. If they had done that, removed some of the extraneous plating and kneepad rims, had redesigned the overly massive 'ski boot' greaves and feet so they were more streamlined, and had kept the size increase of the models to a sensible level (newer chaos marine type size) I definitely would have been into the normal infantry (Intercessor and Hellbalsters). I don't mind the Repulsor. I don't love it but I like it. It could do with having the repulsor plates size refined a bit, but it looks good (especially if you leave off some of the stowage bits). It fits with the look of the rest of the space marine family of vehicles which is an important thing for me. I imagine it as a design that was produced in the heresy, but at the time they couldn't get it to work with the hover technology from the custodes vehicles in a tough and reliable mass producable manner, so it was shelved. Then along came Cawl and made it workable with his repulsor plates. Ishagu
The MKVII grill is pretty cool but the MKIV style design is superiors and I think it's more mature looking, if that makes sense.
