Deathwatch Chapter Approved 2018

Great point Lemon ... I have often played dual Repulsor with my Ultramarines with one Redemptor or more often Guilliman in place of the Redemptor.

I’ve never done that list with Deathwatch because the troops feel so much better in Deathwatch. I had some difficult moments vs Orks last night and I just find their shooting to be borderline ridiculous for an army that can still assault and cover the board so utterly completely.

And thats my fear with this sort of list currently.

The closest I’ve come to this list with Deathwatch is Repulsor and Corvus. Add in a Redemptor and you have my three favourite non infantry units in the codex, and now they are all cheaper.

I don’t know if Deathwatch can do it better (or as well as Ultra ) but with these point drops it might be time to try!

I am able to add a redemptor, 2 Terminators and upgrade my HQs to Primaris.

Something hilarious I noticed with the point changes is that combat shields cost double of that of a storm shield lol.

With the storm shield change I'm finding it harder to justify fielding primaris units.

Even if you wanted to do intercessor squads with hellblasters, it feels like veterans do it better because of cheaper combiplas. You lose out on 6 range and 1-ap but you can run something like this:

5 Vets with stormshields and combiplasma

2 terminators with power maul and Stormbolter

2 bikes with twin boltgun

1 VV with dual pistols or a pistol + shield because why not

total comes to 269 or 271 if you decide to get another shield on the vanguard.

you have 14 wounds for mortal wounds, 4 wounds which are 2+ for ap 0, 5(6) 3++, teleport homer, can fall back and shoot AND charge and you are ld9 and fearless..

compared to:

5 intercessors with aux grenade launcher

4 hellblasters

1 inceptor with plasma

without the pistol tax it becomes 281... cannot fall back and charge.

20 wounds but you get dumpstered by all the cheaper plasma available in the game, + the plethora of other dmg 2 weapons.

guess my army just became true scale. rip primaris. if only we could take the specialist detachment. now where to find 99999999 storm shields..

Good, now our army looks unique and we can use our awesome weapons options!

As for the storm shields, well... I might just throw some blu-tac on em and jam em on whoever needs them lol

Can't agree enough, Brother Aetherick.

I had just started building a Deathwatch Primaris force, too.

I'm now severely regretting this decision.

Between the frankly unnecessary changes to storm shields and veteran point costs and the inability for Intercessors to make use of the awesome new Stratagems, I'm pretty upset.

Guess it's time to abandon that project :(

My 7th Edition Deathwatch was a lot of Termies and Vets. This edition I moved to a 50/50 split and I honestly don’t see changing that.

I love the look and I think the Repulsor became more attractive..... man I just finished painting mine too.

Interesting observations though. I guess I have one major rebuttal for you to consider before writing off your Primaris.... the Apothecary!

Ironically I think the apothecary supporting veterans is probably more useful. Picking up a terminator gives you back your 2+ save, or healing a terminator lets you tank high -ap shots on storm shields (instead of forcing the termi to make saves and likely die). Picking up a storm shield is great value (even more so if he had a stronger weapon as well)

The only thing is he can't fit in a corvus and can ride with other primaris in a repulsor.

The only primaris I think I will run are the 90 point sit on an objective at the back the whole game type. Hell I might even try stalker bolt rifles since they won't be moving anyways.

With the point changes, will you all be running more toys or mixed units, or more marines etc? I grabbed a few spare bodies from bits sellers which seems pointless without the shields from the sprues with this change.

My plan was to go full on Primaris and run multiple Repulsors and Redemptors. The points drops meant I could run a ton more bodies with it, but now that the Corvus is cheaper and Veterans can all be 3++ and shoot double the shots of Primaris, it seems ill advised.

I really like the look of Primaris, but with the campaign book Detachments providing great Stratagem support, I'm not so sure the Deathwatch are the best Primaris options any longer.

I'll stick with my Primaris. They're still good. I don't think the storm shields will remain this cheap...just a bit too risky to overhaul my army. I will save up for some Repulsors. I didn't get them yet but I do like a heavy motorized force (whether it's good or not).

That’s basically what I think i’m Going to do too. The points drops on repulsors and redemptors are great, since I was on the fence about them before. I think i’ll Probably include a unit of Storm Bolter/storm shield breacher veterans in a drop pod though. The visual on that just seems so cool, and pretty effective.

Just a small question, why the droppod? Just for looks? because it sucks donkeyballs and you can DS them with the strategem. It's a cool idea though, so I might convert some reivers with shields and play them as truscale or something. Makes them look better with different weapons too, it's just a shame about the 1 wound per model, but at least they'll have 3++

Hmmm, I'm cracking already...

just a small question, why the drop pod? Is it just for the looks?

Part that, part that I have five of them from in 7th edition when I could play a null-deployment army. Also, for 65 points, I save a command point, and get a body to potentially sit on an objective. Also, if i’m already teleporting 3 things (which I am), this lets me deep strike a 4th thing.

while the formations do offer some nice options for the struggle chapters, it is still a drain on CP for additional rules that maybe with the right tweaks should have been for free. maybe in the next vigilus book we might see something for deathwatch considering the involvement of genestealer activity. for now at least there are now cheaper unit combos that don't require CP so perhaps that is the silver lining.

I agree. That's one thing I don't like about the Vigilus boosts to marines... the cost of entry is too high. To get in the "Vet-Club" you have to pay, and its membership is essentially a key word, accessible through strats that can be played during the game.

Now this might be easier for my Ultra's which have very few good strats but Deathwatch have fantastic strats.

Wait a minute, just because regular veterans and gear dropped some points all of a sudden Primaris (who also got points dropped) are "useless"?

We still have one of the best squads of Primaris with that oh so sweet SIA. I will be fielding both OG marines and Primaris in my army since they cover different things on the battlefield. Dropping a Interaggressor squad with a seasoning of hellblast turn 2 with a Watchmaster and a dreadnought is yummy. I´m really glad the OG dreddies got a points drop, now I can field two without a sweat.

I saw the leaked lists and Im disappointed heavy thunder hammers and the Infernus H.bolter didnt get a few points dropped.
