CMDR_Welles
So, much like Grandfather Nurgle, I have a need to name, number, and catalogue things. I've been pouring over the 8e books, trying to take a census of what is known with rules, and those things named but otherwise unknown. Somethings can be easily guessed at as to what they are, others are a bit more nebulous and confusing.I would like this to be a listing of everything that has been named, not including Forge World units or characters. Please feel free to correct any of my mistakes, and PLEASE let me know if I have missed anything.Death Guard (Known from Codex)MortarionTyphusDaemon PrinceLord of ContagionMalignant PlaguecasterNoxious BlightbringerTallymanFoul BlightspawnPlague SurgeonBiologus PutrifierDeathshroud TerminatorsBlightlord TerminatorsPlague MarinesPoxwalkersMyphitic Blight-HaulerFoetid Bloat-DronePlagueburst CrawlerLordLord in Terminator ArmorSorcererSorcerer in Terminator ArmorChaos CultistsPossessedChaos SpawnHelbruteChaos LandraiderChaos PredatorChaos RhinoDefilerChaos Daemons (Known from Codex)RotigusGreat Unclean OneEpidemiusHorticulous SlimuxPoxbringerSloppity BilepiperSpoilpox ScrivenerDaemon Prince of ChaosPlaguebearersNurglingsBeasts of NurglePlague DronesFeculent GnarlmawsSoulgrinder Gellerpox Infected (Known from Codex) Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed* Gnasher-Screamer Nightmare Hulks The Vox-Shamblers Glitchlings Eyestinger Swarms Cursemites Sludge-Grubs Unknown But Named The Great Biter* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) The Blister-Man* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) The Blubberdark* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) * Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed and the unknown but named characters of the Gellerpox Infected are all classified as "Twisted Lords" ** Gnasher-Screamer is basically a named Nightmare Hulk Unknown but NamedCadaverous Faminebringer (Dark Imperium Death Guard booklet)Slopmaw Maggotmancer (Dark Imperium Death Guard booklet)Festering Poxshaman (Dark Imperium Death Guard booklet)Ku’gath Plaguefather, Greater Daemon (main rulebook p.159)Septicus, Greater Daemon (main rulebook p.159)Winged Rotflies, Mutated Fly Swarms (main rulebook p.159)Engines (main rulebook p.159)Blight Towers (main rulebook p.159)Sporewalker, Colossal Beast (main rulebook p.159)Covens? I'm guessing these are Chaos Cultists, but no idea on anything beyond that. Pestigor Legions are mentioned several times, so I'm guessing Pestigor abhumans exist, we've just not seen them yet (if ever) No idea what the Engines entry is referring too. Sporewalker seems to be a name of a Colossal Beast of some kind. Or is it a type of Colossal Beast? Blight Towers? Are they meaning Plague Towers? Or is this a new, larger cousin of the Plague Tower? So, please feel free to contribute so I can put my my mind at ease. I'd really like to have all of this information all in one place. I hope we get a model and rules for the Slopmaw Maggotmancer. I just love that name! Edited to add Gellerpox Infected. Bloody Legionnaire
I always thought Poxwalkers were Plague Zombies renamed so that GW could retain the copyright.. just like they did with a bunch of other factions and units. N1SB
Like roleplaying a Death Guard Tallyman. In the spirit of being helpful, I'm just including Gellerpox Infected, which appeared in Kill Team: Rogue Trader. From the lore included in the booklets, they're not a one-off; they do occur anywhere that uses Geller fields IF NOT properly maintained by Techpriests. Following your format: Gellerpox Infected (Known from Codex) Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed* Gnasher-Screamer Nightmare Hulks The Vox-Shamblers Glitchlings Eyestinger Swarms Cursemites Sludge-Grubs Unknown But Named The Great Biter* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) The Blister-Man* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) The Blubberdark* (Codex: Gellerpox Infected pg. 5) * Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed and the unknown but named characters of the Gellerpox Infected are all classified as "Twisted Lords" ** Gnasher-Screamer is basically a named Nightmare Hulk Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352270-a-catalogue-of-the-death-guard-and-the-forces-of-nurgle/#findComment-5213535 Share on other sites

So, please feel free to contribute so I can put my my mind at ease. I'd really like to have all of this information all in one place. I hope we get a model and rules for the Slopmaw Maggotmancer. I just love that name! Plague zombies have been around for a while in the lore and used to have rules (Typhus could 'upgrade' cultists to zombies, and I think they were in old Necromunda and Lost and the Damned). it's a virus that causes the dead to rise by the power of chaos. They are classic zombies; rotting, mindless, and spread the disease by attacking the living. The poxwalkers are a related disease (there are a number of different types of plague zombie strains), but a bit different - they share some things in common with Nurgle's Rot. The Rot causes the living to decay and mutate and eventually die, whereby they are reborn as a plaguebearer. Poxwalkers are infected and mutate as part of the progression, even after death, but remain aware of what's happened to them and can wield basic weapons. In practical terms though, it's a zombie variant that can be trademarked, so plague zombies will likely be confined to lore only from now. Plague Zombies never had models per se, you would kitbash Guard and Fantasy zombies or via other means. Now stuff only goes in a codex if it has models, so other companies can't 'fill the gaps'. ---- A coven is a group of people with similar goals and working together, but semi-independently. A cult is a group who more slavishly follow a specific leader towards a specific goal. GW tends to use the terms interchangeably though. Chaos cults can arise from all parts of Imperial society, and for many reasons - personal quest for power, rebellions against the cruelty and brutality of Imperial life, even appearing to be a legitimate organisation or religion - the number of true believers vs 'hangers on', and how slavishly they follow the leaders can vary greatly. Pestigors are beastmen that worship Grandfather Nurgle, either in the underbelly of Imperial society or on the Plague Planet. Again, an old part of the lore that GW is possibly bringing back - we've already had Tzaangors come back, who are Tzeentch workshipping beastmen. We can get a clue as to what pestigors might look like as they've recently got new models in Blood Bowl, and Tzaangors came from Warhammer Quest to AoS to 40k, similar to how demons are common to both settings. Engines, from context, would be a regiment of Daemon Engines, such as plagueburst crawlers and blight-haulers, and older lore-based, larger Daemon Engines seen in Epic 40k. I have nothing to add on Blight Towers or Sporewalker, as this is the only reference in lore to them I can find. Not sure why you don't want FW stuff listed either... As to Plague Zombies. I wasnt sure if there was an actual distinction between them and Poxwalkers. Good to know. As for Forge World. Do their named Characters (Scabeiathrax, Cor'Bax, Necrosius, etc.) appear anywhere else outside the Forge World Narrative? I was trying to avoid anything not covered within the main 40k Narrative (Rulebook, Codices, Black Library). I also dont have access to the Forge World books sadly. DuskRaider
I believe Scabiethrax shows up in Dark Imperium? I could be wrong. They're still canon, however... Necrosius being a mortal enemy of Typhus in the lore and the two war bands (or Companies? I'm unsure) coming to blows over the millennia. Celtic_cauldron
Two other figures you can add to the roll call: - Ignatius Grulgor: Death Guard and Deamon Prince; - Bubonicus: Deamon Prince after being a Spawn. About Blight Towers: are they the Plague Towers of old with a new name?
