DuskRaider
Thanks! DuskRaider
I’m not really sure where to post this… when Legions Imperialis is released I’ll probably start another thread under there but for now I’ll keep my adventures in 8mm under this post since it all ties together anyhow. A couple weeks back I dropped by my FLGS to grab some paint and supplies and happened to notice that they had some Astartes Aeronautica models, particularly the Thunderhawk. Since I fully intend to play LI, it was kind of a no-brainer to grab it while I was there, especially since GW hasn’t released the model in some time now due to re-boxing and now the delay. Seeing these go for over $100 on eBay and whatnot, it was an easy decision to grab it for retail while I had the chance. Yesterday I was chugging along painting this guy and it had been on my mind that they had other models there as well, namely two boxes of Fire Raptors and a box of Xiphons. I decided that I would just swing by and see if any are still there and decide if I want to buy anything from there. All three boxes were still on the shelf… I was a bit surprised when I saw them there but decided that it was a good idea to just grab them while I had the chance, so at this time I have a small collection of Air Support for the XIVth. I started painting this big guy in tandem with the remaining Knights (which are pretty far along at this point). It’s funny, I haven’t painted anything Death Guard in quite some time, let alone in their Heresy scheme. Here’s where it is as of yesterday morning: I didn’t realize until well into the painting that I had assembled the top wings upside down… *sigh*… I’ve since started on the metal parts and it’s coming along nicely. Here are the other craft newly primed and ready for paint: Hopefully I’ll have some more updates soon, but I just started a new job so we’ll see. Captain Idaho
That's super well painted, but then I expect nothing less from your standard man DuskRaider 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353010-in-service-of-the-death-lord-duskraiders-at-project/page/13/#findComment-5991074 Share on other sites

I’m trying my best to get back into the swing of things when it comes to painting. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do it at the rate (or honestly even the quality) that I used to but I’m doing my best. DuskRaider
Long time, no update. I’ve finished the Air Support for my Death Guard (sans a Thunderhawk). At one point, I took a bit of a hiatus but recently picked the brushes back up and vowed to finish these before I went head first into the infantry and tanks (god there’s so many…). Not much to say with these, the photos do the talking I suppose. I do have to say, I wish I had armed the Heavy Bolter Fire Raptors with Lascannons but it is what it is. I guess more anti-infantry isn’t a bad thing and the Las Raptors plus the squadron of Xiphons are well equipped to deal with opposing aircraft and armor. I was a bit sparing with the transfers, particularly on the Xiphons. I am trying to stick with the philosophy of the XIVth, little adornment or ostentation. That’s it for this update, I’m hoping to get to the other stuff plus the two Warhounds once the holidays are over. Let me know what you think! DuskRaider
Wow… it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Life has been more than a little crazy and stressful lately, so I haven’t had much opportunity or motivation to sit down and paint… But here we are. I’ve finally finished my Dire Wolves that I’ve been working on for some time now (since release, I believe). They were a blast to paint up and magnetize and I really can’t wait to put them on the table to see how they perform. You may remember a while back the Warbringer that I posted. I was… less than pleased with the results. The biggest issue I had was that the model ended up looking like a big red block and it drove me crazy. I decided to snag the shoulder plates from my unfinished Warbringer and swap them, I have to say that the end result is much better than before. I’ve also finally completed basing all of my Knights and Titans to be more cohesive with my Imperialis Death Guard. The end result, while a bit bland compared to the old basing, ties everything neatly together to ensure all the individual armies combine to create one large force that can be combined on the table with no issue. As of now I have my second Warbringer and eighth Reaver to finish as well as a Banner of Atropos (which will replace my Seneschal and his Banner), a third Porphyrion and about six Questoris to finish and I should be done for a while. I should say that I do have about ten Warhounds from the LI Starter Box that I had intended to make a Legio Audax force with, but I’m having difficulty with with dryer sheet method of airbrushing so I’m not sure how I’ll proceed. DuskRaider
A quick update, no pictures yet… The last remaining Knights have been painted up. This includes the Atrapos which will represent my Seneschal’s Banner, the last Porphyrion and the final 9 Questoris to round out each Banner to a full 6 Knights for each weapon option. Currently I’m adding the final transfers to these before I call them complete. I had finished adding the Household icon, shoulder hashes and crests to shields when I noticed that I had enough Eye of Horus icons to complete either all of the Questoris or Cerastus. After much deliberation, I’ve decided to add them to all of the Questoris to give them the mostly complete iconography of the Household, sans icons on the leg armor… they just don’t have transfers small enough to accommodate this and I won’t use the simple black and white ones that come with the kits. I’ve estimated I’ll need another four transfer sheets to do the same for the Cerastus. Unfortunately, FW has long since discontinued the Makabius transfer sheets, so I’ve been using reprints purchased via eBay. The only difference is that the colors are a little desaturated and less than half the price of the originals, but otherwise they’re a 1:1 copy of the old OOP FW sheets. While I do know that the new Cerastus come with some Makabius transfers, there’s simply not enough small ones to get what I need and at this point even if GW releases official AT Makabius transfers (which I doubt), they would most likely be paired with Legio Interfector (don’t get me started on that) and would again be too few and too expensive to be worth my money or time. After these are complete I will FINALLY get started on the terrain including the Realm of Battle board. That alone is probably enough to keep me going for months, lol. Lord_Borak
Very cool stuff! That is hell of a lot of Knights and Titans. I really like the white/Marble bases. It gives a nice contrast to the Mortis Engines. I later realized they’re supposed to be the road for the LI board, but I think they would look way too boring as black / grey instead of the concrete look they have now. I don’t intend on getting the tiles now anyhow, it’s just too much money for a full board. I do have to get new pictures of the Knights. They’re now all finished, bumping each Questoris Banner to a full six and adding the Atrapos as well.
