Hints at additional Primaris releases and future changes

Recommended Posts

Word on the street is that the Astartes book will be released in the second part of September. If that's the case it means we still have some time to wait, but also that we might be seeing some more significant changes.

I think thats too late, I could see end of July/first weeks of august.

I think we are in a weird period with marines where we are slowly transitioning into a "elite" medium model count.

so what do we have so far for Marine 2.0 codex?

- infiltrators

- suppressors

- eliminators

- repulsor executioenr

- another marine vehicle (rumored engine pics of an updated interior rhino computer)

- primaris techmarine

am I missing anything?

All told, the following data sheets...

  • Captain in Phobos
  • Lieutenant in Phobos
  • Vanguard Librarian in Phobos
  • Infiltrator
  • Suppressor
  • Eliminator
  • Repulsor Executioner
  • New Iron Hands character and potential techmarine
  • Bookkeeping: updates to Intercessors, Reivers, Primaris Captain options, etc.

And the following rules...

  • Poor Chaos missed the boat, but we'll have Bolter Discipline in the book
  • Crimson Fists and Blood Ravens Chapter Tactics, Relics, Stratagems, and Warlord Traits
  • Obscuration Discipline

And this is all before any other new units or the long rumoured Chapter Tactics for vehicles.

Stormcast didn’t get a new Codex until the new edition, so I can’t see Marines getting a new Codex until 9th next year.

Actually they did. There was the original Stormcast armybook, then a second that included the units previously released in their own Extremis Chamber book, and now with the 2nd edition of AoS, a third armybook.

I doubt we will see a new codex prior to Chaos Knights or Sisters of Battle .

Chaos Knights is going on preorder next week, so I can't argue with that ;)

I don't think it's a lock that the new Codex would need to wait until after Sisters since we still have no clue what the timing of that release will look like. At this point Infiltrators, Suppressors, Eliminators, and the Phobos HQ units can only be acquired from Shadowspear, which has slowly become more difficult to acquire as time goes on. I feel like it has been out of stock on the webstore for ages, and while it's anecdotal, my local stores have been bone dry since release. With the Apoc sheets showing a new Eliminator weapon I imagine it won't be too long until we learn more about the multi-part kits. I expect they'll arrive in a wave that culminates with a new codex.

Ah so this will be a consolidation Codex and the real new units come with 9th. That makes sense.

We don't know of that's the case or not. Chaos got a V2 update, but that was mostly a unit consolidation. Primaris are getting multiple substantial releases and a greater number of new units in every category of the force org.

I wouldn't assume anything, and I certainly wouldn't try looking for precedence when GW is doing things without any notable patterns.

I mean, I know they said they weren't going to do a 9th, that this would be a living edition...  but they also said you wouldn't have to carry around a ton of books and magazines to play your army and we see how that turned out. :ermm:

I'd be really surprised if 9th is this soon. I expect "9th" at the soonest by 2020 summer

That’s the most likely course of action following the very obvious and demonstrable pattern between the two systems releases. We’ve got the Vanguard and ‘big monster’ kit in the executioner so they’ll consolidate the releases in a big Codex and then when we get around to the 40k Soul Wars next year we might see the Primaris equivalent of Sequitors and Ballista.

It would be great if we actually had any rumours.

Agreed. Real rumors from the rumormongers would be nice. I’m waiting to pull the trigger on a Redemptor Talon until I know if there might be an opportunity to get better looking new patterns of dreads.

I think next summer would be the earliest time frame for an edition update as well. I also don't think it will be much of one I think it will update the rulebook with faqs and maybe tweak cp.

After this week release we should be seeing the IH dude releasing.

Will  he be a solo release? Will he have some buddies?

Who knows?

That's a very good point. I totally forgot about him and he doesn't fit into the recent Vanguard Primaris. (Not to be confused with Vanguard Veteran Space Marines or Vanguard Skitari!)

When Chaos Marines 8.5 was released, it got the following new models that WEREN'T part of the Vanguard boxed set:

Lord Discordant

So it's possible that the Primaris Iron Hand is in fact a token model that'll be added alone or part of a new boxed set release.

GW does enjoy their boxed sets so the latter is feasible.

There's also a potential terrain piece that may come with the Codex. Most Codices since Harlequins have had one.

Harlequins: Webway Gate.

Imperial Knights: Sacristan Forgeshrine.

Space Wolves: nothing.

Orks: Mek Workshop.

Genestealer Cult: Tectonic Fragdrill.

Chaos v2: Noctilith Crown.

There's also the Khorne Skull Altar the Daemons got inbetween (not the Slaanesh terrain though for whatever reason).

They enjoy their boxed sets, but they also don't tend to put named characters in them (probably cuts down on multiple sets bought as even a fanatic collector of a faction doesn't need more than one of the same named character).

I could see an Iron Hands vs. somebody boxed set released concurrently but it would be more likely to follow the Tooth and Claw model and feature an Iron Hands Primaris lieutenant and an upgrade sprue rather than the named Iron Father character.

Marine terrain is already available. It’s called a Drop Pod ;)

Honestly... I could see GW going that route.

They'll just give it a 4" or so Aura as Deployment Zone.

Tadaa!

Think about all the production costs and shelf space they would not need for this!

EDIT: This is NOT meant serious. Atleast not fully. Only slightly. Mostly sarcasm.

It's an interesting idea however

How about a building that improves Drop Pods? Some kind of fortified landing beacon or zone. Maybe something like the Dawn of War (video game, not the deployment type) building that has a small landing pad for Drop Pods. I have no idea how this would work or how useful it would be.

I've been itching for a new building for Marines. The other races are getting them now and it'll be exciting to see what we get.

It has to be usable by Primaris AND Classic Marines though, or GW might just find their headaches got worse lol.

That would have to be some pretty accurate drop pod dropping!
