Im super curious about what we're going to be getting here:

** If you’re a fan of the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Grey Knights or Deathwatch, don’t worry – you can look forward to official rules updates coming soon via free PDF download. And remember, you Heretic Astartes players out there will also be gaining Shock Assault for your units in a similar update!

I really hope we can keep our +1 to hit, the intro of AoD seems so fun. I still hold hope we get some sort of enemy fall back mitigation. The hope comes from Salamanders, being one of the stronger ones previously, getting the ignore AP -1. So strong!

I'm liking the idea that our heroic intervention rules changes into "All models can heroically intervene, and characters can do so within 6" of the enemy". This would make the army feel like every Space Wolf is a hero in their own right like the books say. Might be too OP so maybe instead free 3" consolidate added in if a unit leaves melee to signify us chasing

naaah....i think they will give us the new primaris datasheets and +1 attack universal marine buff and thats it...thats what they did with first primaris wave...i thought the core sm codex would be common to all like the vanguard mini dex...i dont think that any more...we will get our updated tactic and strats etc....

2 years from now

when they confirmed that we ll get the pdf treatment, it became crystal clear that we ll have minor changes...this was a great chance to bring all sm up to date with the generic stuff( strats, doctrines, litanies etc) and give extra flavour with supplements...whats the point of unlocking the same generic stuff for SW,BA,DA etc. years later ....i hope they wont do the same mistake....

Hello wolf brothers (small SW colelctor here)

You guys aren't getting a chapter tactic change, like us DAs (or the BAs), sadly. Confirmed on the GW facebook page it seems

I'll wait for a source since theyve gone back and forth on what are are or arent getting. If true we'll have one of the worst ones since almost all of the other ones are good for vehicles.

I don’t expect a chapter trait change for us. It’s unfortunate because the divergent chapters have a lower win percent than Codex Marines at the competitive level. (I don’t play on a lot of tournaments but I play in a competitive meta).

Lonewolf81 has the right assessment of the situation.

Fliers start the game on the table.

Flanking Wolves Air Wing makes so much sense now.

Stormravens with 10 man GH pack, +WGPL to taste, with a slot for a PA HQ choice? Check.

Dread riding in back? Check.

Take three?

Stormwolves with Wulfen / Blood Claws to taste? Check.

Stormfang with Long Fangs riding in back, up to six models? Check.

Stormhawks and Stormtalons to provide mobile air support? Check.

While costly, an entirely airborne Astartes Company might be in the right hands a wise move.

Ragnar seems an obvious candidate to turn into a Primaris. A major character in rank/background that unlike similar characters hasn’t received an updated model.

He might get an overhaul in theme and rules. Part of his ‘thing’ was that he was young to be a wolf lord. Although GW could cite time distortion shannighans, the setting has moved on a century or two. Might we see a more seasoned and mature Ragnar in the codex?

What I *want* to see, but don’t expect, is an updated Bjorn.

Brothers,

I know it seems disappointing we won't be getting much of a revamp, but I think its a tremendous plus several aspects of Shock Assault synergize with our +1 to hit stratagem.  I think the change we will be seeing is our tactic extending to vehicles, making those dreads even more vicious!

Heads and mead horns high!

Venerable rules seem a bit lackluster.

Might a reroll for the number of Wounds dealt by each shot might work? Say Bjorn gets wounded by a Lascannon; if the roll is not to the player's liking, might a reroll be too powerful?

Or, better put...

Bjorn shoots with his Twin Lascannon at a Hellbrute.

Both shots hit. Both shots wound.

When resolving the Wounds dealt, each of the Number of Wounds dealt dice might be permitted to reroll?

I roll for Bjorn and get a 4 and a 2; the Hellbrute's controlling player decides to have me reroll the 4. I get a 5, thus, the higher result must be accepted.

Kinda a new way to view Venerable considering how 8th Ed. works now, in relation to the previous editions. Venerable might need to cost more, but it'd be worth it!

I remain sceptical, don`t think we will getting much new apart from the new primaris Units and maybe Litanies.

I rather fear that they will Limit some possible Synergies like Schock Assault for Wulfen and other stacking Attack Buffs.

ya, I think Wulfen atm are really well balanced for their cost. another attack on them might be a little much imho

After some thought.

Blood Claws may become our preferred Troops choice, and it seems more and more likely the more I think about it.

- GH's are shooty, but not that assaulty. BC's with at least 4 dice each hitting on 2's on the charge with only 2 dice hitting on 3's after being stuck in means that a nearby Wulfen pack or a boosting WP HQ for reroll 1's on the 4 dice just became "mandatory."

Long Fangs with only a -1 to hit penalty moving, which can be negated easily with our Strategem is going to aid the Old Coots nicely.

Dreadnoughts getting 4 attacks base, plus any Fenrisian Great Axe with Blizzard Shield and Storm Bolter dreads won't be that great on their save, but, their attacks will be brutal.

Wolf Guard with Csword and Storm Shield may become a favored option for PA WG.

TDA WG with paired WC's or TH/SS are going to hit on 2's for Claws, at least 4 dice on the charge, and have a usually reliable armor save, and 5+ invul won't hurt.

TH/SS will become DPS tarpits on the charge.

I think we won't need that much changed, but what is going to be the "minimal" changes should result in a much more fun army to play as on the table. We will become likely slightly more competitive of an army, until we find all of our new little changes to find uses for on the table.

I think a Stormraven with GH pack of 10, WGPL, and an HQ to taste with a FGA&BS/SB Dread riding in back for escort duty to press the advantage into the enemy's backfield will become a staple once some of us get too good at it for the foe's liking, soon enough.

The wolves with paired Heavy Bolters and Hurricane Bolter Centurions should be a VERY dakka heavy support element. One LRC and five of these nasties will make the enemy suffer greatly.

And, we'll finally get Grav weapons. After they are not the game breaking MEQ eaters of old. Oh well, still, I welcome the chance to see what might be done with them. Reroll to wound on Long Fangs with Grav Cannons with Grav Amp and hit on 3's or 2's is going to be a pain, and attach a WP for reroll to hit shenanigans at range.

I think we'll be close to fine, and at least competitive enough to not be too concerned until if or when, time will tell, the entire points per model and statline systems get any potential revisit.

I'm not worried.

The communication wifflewaffling is unfortunate - sounds like there was a miscommunication between the studio and community team.

I said before, but this strikes me as a very 5th Edition-era-esque codex release. I'm expecting new models for Shrike, Kantor, He'stan, and Lysander to follow, headlining their own particular supplements.

This is not a Wolf release at all. I think that's a good thing - we deserve our own billing, with more than a single character model for our trouble. What we do get is friendly PDF downloads that will make it permissive to use the new Vanguard products and updated rules - stuff to tide us over.

Stealth Great Companies could one day become a thing. Or at least, in the themes of old, a Stealth Battle Detachment.

Thats a theme I rely on currently.

eliminators and infiltrator synergy calling shots and finding the weak spot for a spearhead assault of the most ass kicking wolf dreads around

If only Wolf Scouts played as worth a damn...

Hey, wait!

Wolf Scouts BECOME Eliminators and Infiltrators!? Astartes can at times be turned into Primaris!

Why not?

My prediction is that the FAQ will outline which units we get from the space marine book (hopefully small limits like no apothecary and the usual tac and Devastators are gh and lf), adjust some points (god I hope grey hunters but I doubt it), and thats about it.

warhammer 40k Facebook does seem to make it clear they aren't touching our chapter tactic which is unfortunate as with no vehicle buff we (and blood and dark angels) will be officially worse off than regular marines.

Whilst it is true that our Chapter Traits are weaker than the codex ones now, it looks like we may have a greater selection of units to chose from as we will have the full codex range of units plus our own specialised ones (I realise that this is not confirmed yet).

Plus we and BAs have many units that will benefit strongly from Shock Assault. Whilst we are not getting the full works, we will still get a decent benefit.

I wonder if we will get successor traits as well, as we know we have the wolf Spear among other unknown successors. Or we could get company traits. I just want more options for our wolves.

I suspect our next dex will have at least the wolf spears. unless we end up with a few more
