Captain Idaho
This will be stoking the fires of excitement but why not eh! We've not had much to get excited about for what seems like an age anyway ;) *** I say BRING IT ON! This is everything we've been looking for and dreamt about. The Warlord Traits and Relics will be interesting but most of all is the Strategums. What they will be I don't know but as long as they help more than just a select few units then I think we'll all be happy. Any thoughts or things we're looking forward to at this point? I want to benefit from Shock Assault with some Terminator Strategum support and (hopefully) new stats for them, as well as expanded Honour Guard rules so I can custom build/use the HH model some. robofish7591
I am really curious to see what powers we get with our new psychic discipline. I really have no idea what kind of powers its going to have. And while I am expecting to get a rehash of the vigilius specialist detachment and stuff, I hope we do end up with a new detachment or two. I also hope that they update the Terminus Ultra too! Joukernaut
I'm dreaming of ramming my crusader into the enemy ranks, disembarking a unit of assault terminators with a terminator chaplain shouting some litanies, popping a strat and destroying the enemy unit completely, consolidating into a second unit, popping honour the chapter (if it remains a stratagem) and doing it all again. Maybe even deep strike a terminator libby just behind them to boost their effectiveness for good measure. Subtleknife
I do hope we get some cp upgrades but ultramarine specific like the imdominuts crusaders etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357553-ultramarines-supplement/#findComment-5359383 Share on other sites
Seahawk
I am unbelievably stoked. They've finally fixed their 5th edition stupid and allowed vehicles to gain Chapter traits, like every other race has had for years. jonjacob
I'm curious about warlord traits. If the supplement has a few what do you think they'll be? Adept of the codex and warden of ultramar could be on that list. But also which characters will have what? Subtleknife
I would like a warlord trait that links to our chapter tactic. Maybe, units in 6 inch of the warlord can charge after disengaging from combat. That way you could disengage, shoot, then charge back in. Toxichobbit
I saw a retailer price list where it's referred to as Codex: Ultramarines. I think it was somewhere in the N&R thread. I know it's not a Codex, but damn it made me smile. Like reliving the glory days. Prot
I am very excited like all of you, but I am also a bit hesitant to get my hopes up. My recent run of success with Ultramarines in a more competitive environment has been largely with the use of very few models, and a lot of T8 on the board. Maybe I'm showing my age here but I want to field a bunch of marines again. I want to flood the field with marines (primaris in my case) and transports and have my opponent think; damn I'm in trouble, as opposed to wow, this is going to be easy! Maybe those days are just long gone, but ironically a friend of mine was just reminding me how I used to terrorize his tournament IG with drop pod marines right in his lines.... wow I miss those times! +++++++++++++++++++++++ Some things I'm not sure on: New psychics? Hopefully it won't just be the box set stuff from Vanguard marines. New Litanies? I don't like the Dark Apostle stuff for chaos, if this is more of the same it might be a tough sell for me. I know with my chaos the DA and his cronies are taking up valuable HQ spots and they can fail their Litany which is silly. (It used to be an aura to reroll to hits). Litany of Darkness is the only one I found really any good, and only because you can apply it to a Kytan or super heavy with the Legion keyword. Now taking that along side Tigurius' 'Master of Prescience" could be pretty saucy, however I don't like all the points locked up in the 'chance' of it going off. Finally Tigurius. I've been waiting for a long time for him to go Primaris. My only fear is if he is nerfed in some way. Otherwise he's still going to be one of my favorites. Toxichobbit
I think the psychic powers in the Codex are the previous ones and the ones from the Vanguard - so Librarius and Obscuration. The discipline in the Ultramarines supplement is called Indomitus, so it should be different to any of the Marine disciplines we've seen so far in 8th. Isn't the reasoning that the Dark Apostle's Litanies need a test to work because Chaos is fickle? Game wise the Chaplain Litanies should probably also require a test for parity, but background wise I can't see it - there's no fickle powers that a Chaplain is entreating, just good old fashioned courage, honour, zeal, hatred etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357553-ultramarines-supplement/#findComment-5360084 Share on other sites

Prot
Those dice are super cool... but super expensive. 40 CAD is just so much. I'll tell you one thing I hope they are super legible. I've played Chaos dice and had multiple tournaments where someone said "I can't read your dice". If I'm paying 40 bucks for 20 dice, I want to be able to use them! I'm still crossing my fingers Tiggy doesn't get a price bump and keeps Master of Prescience. Also... silly thought but i have fun with my flamer Aggressors. Extra attacks will help them quite a bit since they have the -1 to hit fists. (I always thought they should have been an extra attack). Retreating and flaming after is added fun for me. lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357553-ultramarines-supplement/#findComment-5360192 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Tigurius broke my heart a little. An old favourite of mine and I bet he, along with Terminator Calgar, won't be in the Codex any more. I even reckon we won't see a points value for those models any more, besides older books. Toxichobbit
At least his new model is nicer. I never really liked his 4th ed model. I actually prefer his 2nd ed version to it, even with the wonky sculpting. Captain Idaho
Totally. The 4th edition model is awful. Meh it's not a massive deal if GW won't let me take the pre-Primaris Tigurius in Matched Play. I'll just take a normal Librarian. Ishagu
I've recently had great success with multiple units of Veteran Intercessors supported by Repulsors and Reivers. I'm finding myself running around 40+ Astartes not counting characters which is a good number I think Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357553-ultramarines-supplement/#findComment-5360275 Share on other sites
BLACK BLŒ FLY
I’m going troop heavy with Intercessors and Infiltrators - they do a lot work every game. Prot
Well I may expand the marine portion if the list. Honestly I’m not too confident here. Tau multi battlesuit cyclonic launchers are just Primaris munchers. Even the local Necron guy is usually toting dual Destroyer squads. The local DE are typically running multi Venom spam. I’ve been only using the bare minimum for infantry and forcing a lot of T8 targets for my opponents. With the new rules, I’d like to go back to trying Vetercessors again in a 10 man squad perhaps, but it’s going to be an uphill battle I think! BLACK BLŒ FLY
10 veteran Intercessors popping the rapid strat from Vigilus is a lot of shots... just saying. ;) For me Intercessors and Infiltrators are simply fun to play. I’ve found while the former tend to inflict more damage over the course of the game but the latter are quite tactical and are fantastic with the 12" pushback versus enemy reinforcements... they made it a real up hill for duh jumping Boyz my last game versus Orks. T8 is always solid though for sure. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357553-ultramarines-supplement/#findComment-5360442 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I hope the Supplement gives us something for our infantry so taking a whole bunch of Troops choices is still worth it. Captain Idaho
Wasn't there rumoured a Doctrines ability? I doubt it is just Ultramarines but likely (if I remember the rumour) we would get a chance to use it twice or something. I think it was rumoured Bolters could get an additional -AP with a system that works similar to Deathwatch. I can't remember the rumour now. Anyway, that would go some way to sorting out Infantry heavy Marines.
