White Dwarf Leaks - Sept - Dark Angels Primaris

Not sure on sharing links here rather than direct posting pictures but pretty much the full DA article is out there in the wild internetz, looks as if Gravis can be worn by Deathwing Primaris relying on Repulsors for Deployment...

Nothing on Ravenwing, strong hints that inflitrators could be at least used in tandem though... ...swap that haywire mine for a teleport beacon anyone?

I'd hope with our assumed supplement/upcoming campaign book we get some additional wargear options for the Primaris-wingers... Apparently there are 'Caliban formations' including Hellblaster + Dev CENTURIONS...

This way seems a pragmatic approach, and a slow shift towards Primaris throughout the Chapter, lots of references to balancing the might of the Ultramarines... Very Unremembered Empire sounding.

I like classic Marines and Terminators, it seems in the new Codexes they have been kept viable, I'm okay with a new Primaris Imperial Truth as long as it doesn't purge everything ;-)

Perhaps at least GW realise the First Legion need some buffs :)

Disappointing news IMHO. But I am a cantankerous 'old' gamer having played since the 90's lol.

I just cant get passionate about the primaris. ......So....... bland. And I swear I hear the noise of laughter from GW headquarters whenever I buy a primaris unit lol.

I'd be surprised if there is anything other than this lazy white dwarf 'footnote' to get excited about for a while. It seems that GW's main goal is to drastically reduce the numbers of SKU's they have in their warehouse. Might get an upgrade sprue or something for your green Ultramarines before long #Sethwasright :biggrin.: .

But who knows, maybe by Christmas time I will be eating my words whilst painting my freshly opened Lion el' Jonson!

It's odd that everyone says the Primaris are bland - they have more going on with them than the 2nd Edition or 3rd Edition-5th Edition plastic Marines...

I don't really like the Gravis armor as a Terminator replacement for some reason though, I think it's just little things that are off for me - the external power pack, lack of head upper suit mounted lamps, etc.

IF Gravis armor were to become the Deathwing equivalent, I propose a few stratagems to make them better.

1-2 CP - Inner Circle
Target GRAVIS character gains 'Inner Circle' ability and DEATHWING keyword for one CP.
For two CP, a Primaris GRAVIS unit gains the same as above AND a 5+ Invulnerable save.

And i should spend the few CP a DA has to upgrade Gravis to DW when i can use them the same in Green? I keep them in Green and use CP for Better strats

This is where GW Is failing with Primaris in DW and RW

If they still use units that are available to other companies nobody are gonna soend more point or CP to give those units DW or RW keywords cause you Can still use those units in Green and have more points/CP for the REAL DW/RW esclusive units

The fluffy from WD is boring and blando and the options for primaris DW/RW are useless cause i can have the same units in green without gimnicks so IMHO primaris are still out of my DW/RW companies until SPECIFIC units Will appear

What I don't like in "gravis armor as deathwing" is that this armor doesn't give "elite" feeling. No 2+ armor, no invulnerable save, no brutal special weapon, no teleporter, nothing, just bigger armor and power fists. Not to mention that this armor is used by regular battle companies. Gravis captain looks good enough, but it still lacks bulky brutality of terminator armor despite it's good stats.

Just reading through the article, and I think there are a lot of hints about what may come in the Codex:

"With the exception of the Deathwing and the Ravenwing, the Dark Angels follow standard Space Marine combat doctrine as written in the Codex Astartes".

  • Confirmation of Devastator, Tactical and Assault Doctrines for Greenwing.

"New Specialised formations have been developed...Caliban's Reach...combines the immense firepower of Hellblasters and Devastator Centurions"

  • Perhaps some variation of WftDA, or perhaps advance/shoot without any penalty?

"The omniscramblers of Inflitrator Squads can severely disrupt enemy communications, enabling Ravenwing Squadrons to strike without the possibility of their quarry being warned."

  • Potential no-overwatch stratagem? Or perhaps some other kind of outflank/reinforcements type stratagem?

Anyway, I suspect it may be some more months before we find out. But there is definitely excitement building in me!

Could be, maybe, we go the way of "wings" over doctrines. With specialist detachments instead of army-wide combat approaches. Detachments that, say, make X and Y units have Z ability.

Maybe firewing improving helblasters and agressors, ironwing improving redemptors, invictors and transports, etc.

IIRC, doctrines were a thing in 6th or 7th edition SM books, and DA didn't have them. I think they'll remain in current SM codex, and DA will get something else (IF we'll get something else :biggrin.: ).

Yeah, just had a look through the 7th Edition SM codex, and sure enough - the Combat Doctrines exist there. I then had a look through the DA codex to look for inspiration, and the one that I liked was the ability of Ravenwing to chip in with overwatch fire - just like the T'au currently do. Oh, and teleport homers:

"The Divinator-class auspexes and transpectral combat visors of Incursor Squads collect data from battlefields that previously would have been almost impossible to extract, and yield new intelligence for the Inner Circle to act upon without the Vanguard Space Marines' knowledge"

  • A DEATHWATCH unit may teleport on to the battlefield within 12" of an Incursor unit and no more than 6" from an enemy unit...

Again, I can wish :D

Well, with what Ultramarines and White Scars have, like +1 damage on all melee weapons in addition to their chapter tactics, there's some hope for decent DA rules. At least, comparing to Scars, better charge after deep strike doesn't sound overrpowered at all.

Speaking of speculation and wish listing, I have a hunch that our new DA Primaris character will be an Interrogator Chaplain (to really drive the Primaris-love home).

My reasoning is as follows:

1. We received a DA Lieutenant already with Zakariah

2. A Primaris Master can be kitbashed using the DA upgrade sprues.

3. Librarians and Chaplains are already a thing so..

It makes sense in a way. With all the older marines crossing over and becoming primaris-fied, what is an Interrogator Chaplain going to do when he gets his new body? NOT fulfill his previous job??

Where there any other formations teased? Or just the Caliban’s Reach?

Wait, Devestator Centurions??

Written in the leaked article... Whether we get them...

But we dont have them in Codex 8.1

We dont get them in the update PDF

and it seems we are not getting a new codex now

so WD can say what they want... We don't have centurions

Admittedly, I'm not up to snuff on the fluff. Can some one explain where all of this armor and recruits are comes from? And why does a lot of the range look bland and unmarine'ish?

As for GW forcing our hands to buy a whole new line of models. Well, there are ways to keep from giving them money. I'll be proxying. I won't be buying the primaris products. Trade, maybe, but I can't get behind the fluff, and the fluff is what drives my purchases.

Did the white dwarf mention what's next? Any good foreshadowing?

Confirmed that Is Just a useless IA article

Now we are proud owner of primaris DW without TDA and primaris RW without bikers

I guess the oldmarines used them to clean the floor of their bedrooms :D

Old marines = Real marines? There is precedent for Deathwing bone in power armor.
