Good morning fraters,

 

Since the community challenge chat isnt really in use anymore and my L&T contribution is done I thought I open a new thread for a bit of hobby talk, WIPs, questions and the like. Basicly everything you dont want to fill your hobby logs with.

 

And I do that beacuse I have a problem/question: I bought all of my plastic heresy used from a friend and then bought some additional upgrades: So here is two questions I have:

 

- From the neck down I own the parts for another 30 MK IV marines, 10 are built already, which leaves me with only 1 MK IV helmet left, since my friend used them already. I have a phalanx warder kit here which includes another 5 helmets, so I can mash together a veteran squad from those bits plus some naked heads, I am cool with the latter as I wanter to work on my face painting anyways. But this leaves me with 10 Guys that need heads, I wanted to turn them into a Heavy Support squad. So either I give them all no helmets, which I dont like the look of. Or give them 40k helmets, which I have a metrich ton of. Or I order some kromlech helmets. - As you can infer from a bove to kit out my veterans I had gotten a phalanx warder kit for some mk IV upgrades. Which leaves the shields. I was thinking of slapping those on some tartaros terminators, since I have a sprue of 5 Tartaros that I got used from my friend anyways. This would have the advantage of not having to convert the cataphractii shield arms to tartaros which might look weird. Anyone ever seen that handswap in the wild before? Does it look good?

I reckon those heads with the optics would look smashing for a Heavy Support squad, they fit well for the Fists too.

Do you have any plastic Black Templar heads? I’ve been mixing them in on 30k Fists and it looks great

I’ve seen the Phalanx warder shields used on normal 40k terminators (Crimson Fists) and it looked great with the Thunder hammer. Never seen it on Tartaros but I’m sure it’d look just as good.

I have alot of Templar sprues left and will use them for my Heresy Fists too.

 

As for Kromlech, i bought those helmets with the optics and alot of other stuff from their sales like jetbikes, weapon batteries, combi Weapons and alot of tank stuff as i prefer their more armoured optics than than the FW Deimos tanks.

Cool, so if I don't get supplied by my gaming group I'll take those. I like the sopes they have attached and those are another chance to sneak in some spot colours. Or maybe I'll just use them anyways.

I'll have a look through my bitsbox I bought a lot of different helmets for my templars for that knight style. Gotta see what I can dig up for the fists. I like to keep them kind of utilitarian for troops and the like though. In my mind they are an actual army where a quartermaster gives them stuff and what they can tack on to their armour is kind of limited. Whereas in 40k I play knights who pray to their armour.

 

Another question: I just painted the heat stained barrells on my cataphractiis squads 2 illiastus cannons and did my contemptors' plasma blaster in parallel: how'd you heat stain copper? For normal metals and brass I thin out sepia ink paint half to a third of the gunbarrel, getting more intensive in the front, do a thirs of that in purple and then a third to half in blue, silver edgehighlight at the end of the barrel, some pigment if I feel like it and done. That technique did not look good over copper. I wanted to do my meltas and plasma guns with copper barrels though. Good ideas?

What are you guys doing easter?

I am enjoying 5 days off and painting all the gold trim on my cataphractii. Learning to do tmm shading, which I have been wanting to learn for ages. It gets quicker by the model and sometimes even looks like I did something

Been working on 30k Wolf schemes. I think I want to go for something much darker than usual with stippling as the main thing, but I can't find the stippling brushes I've had on my desk for a while.

I'm finally taking my first serious steps into 30k as I've convinced a friend to try it out together. He chose Fists while I'm starting Word Bearers; I'm almost finished converting my Delegatus.

Got ten tacticals on my table currebtly theyll double as vets and as a support squad. Maybe also to make my ten man squads into 20 man blobs.

I hope to airbrush the blacks tody. Got ten bolters, ten plasmaguns, ten flamers and ten meltas to do.

Call Center work at AAA Emergency Road Service.

 

It's been dead at my job since mid-February because of the quarantine. The days I don't bring anything to work on I'm staring at a pair of computer screens for six hours, doing absolutely nothing :lol:

@Marshal Vespasian: That first marine's face is looking solid. Are you thinking about the contrast of the faces of the second pair or their armour?

 

@Aztek: The black and red are really nicely done on the Termite. That's some inspired work on the jetbike, though t looks a bit more Word Bearers than Night Lords to me, still a cool build for sure.

Aye, I'd agree that at the minute the faces do look a bit flat/monotone, perhaps the cheekbones could be picked out a little more? The armour will pop more once the details on the chest and legion symbol are done.
