Been mostly out of the hobby for a decade (because kids :smile.:) and I've decided now's a great time to go back to my models. I have a couple armies, including my Dark Angels. My goal is to complete my company, but I started with Cypher, because I like the model.

Without further ado, I present, Cypher:

He still needs to be based and spray sealed, but I'm happy with him.

I tried using him in a couple of small games; he got his ass handed to him by a broodlord and a Thunder Hammer wielding Space Marine Captain. Both times he rolled successfully for his "mysterious protection" and left the table without giving up victory points for killing the Warlord. Not sure how or if I'd use him in the future, but he was fun to paint.

Played the new Combat Patrol scenario against Imperial Knights.

Me:

Master in TDA

Apothecary in TDA

Deathwing Terminators

Deathwing Terminators

Opponent:

Armiger Helverin

Armiger Helverin

Armiger Warglaive

Setup:

IK set up one Helverin on their objective and the other two Armigers set up to walk to the no man's land objectives.

One DWT squad on my objective, Master to the side to run for one objective in no man's land. Other DWT and Apoth to deep strike.

IK get to go first - I rolled a 5 for seize the initiative.

Armigers moved out but shooting was ineffective.

DWT1 and master moved out towards different objectives in no man's land while the DWT2 and Apoth deep strike near one objective. Bolter fire takes off some wounds on the Warglaive.

IK shooting finally takes out some DWT. Warglaive charges DWT2, and causes a couple wounds. Power fists take some wounds off the Warglaive.

DWT1 move closer to the Helverin and lay into it with storm bolters. Warglaive and DWT2 combat is a draw.

DW: 15vp, IK: 5vp

Helverins take out another of DWT1. Warglaive takes out a DWT while losing more wounds.

Bolter fire takes off more wounds from the Helverin out front, then DWT1 charges. Helverin explodes, taking a DWT with it. Warglaive finishes off DTW2 and the Apothecary while the Master finishes off the Warglaive

DW: 30vp, IK: 10vp

Remaining Helverin wounds with three hits and the Master fails 2! Damage inflicted is 6, removing the Master.
Remaining DWT1 moves towards the Helverin, shooting taking out more wounds.
DW: 45vp, IK: 15vp

Helverin reduces DWT1 to a single model.
DWT1 moves in, shoots for a wound, charges, and takes out the Helverin with the power fist. He is the last model on the board.

FINAL
DW: 60vp, IK: 20vp

The game felt close, except on the score board. A few dice rolls going the other way could have seen the DW losing control of objectives to the Armigers and they had the speed to move quickly from one objective to another. I'm really digging the number of dice I get to roll for storm bolters at short range. The sheer volume equates to enough wound rolls to force failed armour saves.

Fun was had. Looking forward to the next game.

Finished the first five models of the second assault squad. These ones have bases! I'll need to buy another box of assault marines if I'm to finish the squad.

However, the next model on the docket is the Master/Lieutenant with jump pack.

Thanks TheWeepingAngel.

I’m sad to report that after I took photos, I used Munitorium Varnish spray to seal the paint job and got ruined models for my trouble. A helpful staff at GW suggested using a couple coats of Lamian Medium on top to clear up the white.

Anyone else had this happen? What were your results with the varnish spray?

Thanks TheWeepingAngel.

I use Testors spray lacquer with my Blood Angels and it does darken them up a bit, but never any texture or residue.
