@ TC,

Nice!, I like the leather Look you've started here on "Cyclops"    I assume that Heroic rock was already attached to his foot ?... :tongue.:

I didn't get that box so I'll expect to be waiting a little while to get some rangers etc ...More time to paint new Guardians !! :happy.:

Cheers, Mithril

Yeah, I built ten with no duplicates with almost no effort, very much enjoyed them.

I may have to steal your bike Autarch idea, that's so much better than the existing model!

Thank you Tyriks! There's no stealing in the Hobby world, it's all taking inspiration from others work :smile.: (unless physically taking models of course, that is stealing  )

To be totally honest, the idea for having the Autarch jumping off the bikes is probably inspired by someone else too. I've likely seen it somewhere and subconsciously copied someone else :biggrin.:

Thank you Mithril! The Heroic rocks part of the model, I suppose as a century old Outcast, it's hard not to look cool

A productive weekend! I got the Rangers done, they've definitely got way more detail than my 1st ed Rangers although I think it's about time I retire them

I've been in the hoby for nearly 13 years now (my parents took me to GW on my 13th Birthday  ) and this is my first attempt at pupils in eyes, they're far from perfect but I'll only get better with practice

Love these, great looking unit!

I really want to start work on mine but the weather is not being forgiving for priming!

Oh those lenses and gems are looking particularly good!

Have you got any paint-on matte varnish or medium? I think the cloaks could do with a little dulling down

Thanks Doctor! I don't have any Varnish or Medium, although to be honest I quite like the mild shine on the cloaks, it gives a kind of leather-coat effect

I wasn't sold on the rangers. But after seeing how many variations you have made, I quite like them now!

Thank you Coolpants! They're great models and there's a good few different arms that they never even showed on the promotional stuff! :smile.:

Looking great there, the eyes are nice, although the monocle guy "his" right eye looks like it needs a lil black lining at the top to make it stand out but otherwise they are great!

I really dig the brown on the jackets - can we get a quick rundown on the colours used please :smile.:

Q - Just out of curiosity, are there female bare heads in this Kit..?

Cheers, Mithril

Nice job with the Rangers, Trawling!  I really like the leathered look on the cloaks (how did you do that, it looks dry brushed and stippled, and maybe even a bit of texturing?), and the bone + dark grey/black weapon bodies is set off very nicely against the blue armor.  Your eyes are good, better than mine (which is why I just don’t paint them), and your lenses look great!

The gems are very good, though as a bit of CC, on the large disc thing, I think you would have been better served starting at black and mixing more layers up through to your bright highlight color to do that sized gem.

I do really like your posing on Captain Stabbity (although it’s weird that my favorite pose is the close up weapon guy in a unit of long gun folk) and Gal Gunslinger, but the whole unit does look great together, and your graphical style on them is always cool to look at.

Thank you BB!

The leather cloaks are just: Mournfang brown, Agrax wash all over, drybrush Mournfang then drybrush Skrag Brown. It's a bit lazy but it comes out with the effect that I want

The big gem is definitely something I'll go back to re-do later on, same for the eyes I think. The more practice I get at both, the easier it'll be to redo them :biggrin.:

I got the first bike done last night, if you haven't built yours yet: spray and paint the crew seperately! Learn from my (dumb) mistakes :teehee: Outside of hazard stripes and the odd symbol, this is the largest bit of freehand I've done and is something I'd like to carry over to my vehicles when I get the chance

Thank you Halandaar!

I got my Vow and the Eldar half of Eldritch Omens done and made a new Vow with a bit more in it

Autarch Aydona, Storm of the Sky is complete. This is the same Autarch that I have on bike, just the on foot version. I'm incredibly pleased with the end result  :

Damn... I know I saw this in another thread but you are owning this look. It's looking quite excellent. I love how you're at a point where you've done these great characters. The feminine banshee face is a very nice, subtle touch. Well done on her face tats.

You have me second guessing my own choices! Great looking army.

This is so great, really good use of Banshee parts. The empty hand makes what is fundamentally a pretty static pose look a lot more dynamic.

Thank you Prot! One of the best parts of the painting/modelling process for me is to create my own characters to match the force and theme I'm going for. As Craftworld Iybraesil are very matriarchal, I figure most of the leaders would have been Banshees at one point or another.

Definitely don't second guess your paint scheme, you're sublime painter!

Thank you Halandaar! It's definitely a rather Stoic pose but looking back at previous Autarchs, it's pretty much par for the course with lots of stoic poses :biggrin.:

I've magnetised all of the weapons but until I get my hands on the book to see what combos are legal, I'll hold off painting the rest. I love spears anyways so that'll probably stay :happy.:

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks Mithril! Clear bases aren't my jam personally but there's nothing wrong with liking them, I like the bases matching the rest of the army

I've been pretty ill for the last week and a bit which has given me the oppourtunity to work on my Anger and Arrogance Vow as well as finish off a project that I've had forever.

First up, I got the Vyper done:

51957952366_1b1f4d8cb1_b.jpg

Then the 5 Wraithblades (plus the Grynix)

51958015493_d8d8ce2888_b.jpg

That's a lot of Wraiths:

51957952306_ef3007924f_b.jpg

The project I've had on my painting desk for ages has been a Farseer on Jetbike, it's the Jetbike version of Farseer Aleerith:

Which gives me a Foot and mounted version for both of my Army's leaders:

I'm currently working on the Wraithlord

Thanks Dread! The pink is definitely an odd choice and not usually one I'd go with but it works really well with the colours and is super easy to do (thank Isha for contrast )

I got the Wraithlord done last night, another lanky lad to join my original one:

I realize our craftworld's color schemes are almost opposites of each other. I main orange, you main blue. My blue gems become your red gems. Where I paint pure white, you go to a more grim bone white, or even to black. If our craftworlds met, and did battle with each other, our enemies would be defeated just trying to figure out what was going on!

  • 1 year later...

It's been a good while since I've worked on anything with pointy ears, in fact I didn't even update this with the last bits I completed (I got sucked straight into a Heresy Project and also my Red Corsairs).

The last bits I finished off for the Arrogance and Anger event were: another Spirit Seer,  10 more Banshees and a 3rd Warwalker

PXL_20220515_213558480.thumb.jpg.63e2c56804c4330b28c3e6e6816a21c0.jpg

PXL_20220322_221959797.thumb.jpg.c2391e4195dc0772d9af34fc0a608c37.jpg

So what's next? 10th edition is winding up and I'm looking to dive into it with all things Knife-Ear.

With the upcoming Call to Arms event, I've got some bits in my backlog I'm looking to get finished off:

9 Windriders

20 Guardians

15 Wraithguard

10 Swooping Hawks

Wraithlord

2 Warlocks

A Farseer

Yncarne

As another goal, I'd also like to repaint parts of the force too. some of the older paint schemes aren't as good as the newer, especially when looking at the War Walkers and the Wraithlord. The new scheme introduces some grey-black parts that break up some of the bonecolour, which has also changed:

51959850226_15d176fe57_b.jpg

I think in general there's a lot of tidy ups I can do to get the army up to the next level. My skills and style has changed over the years as is natural with hobby projects, it's cool to see the comparison between old and new  and notice the small details.

I've also got some bits there were partially painted or in progress when the Hobby butterfly took flight once again. The main one being big bad Blue-man based on the Visarch:

Still loads to do on this guy but looking great so far!
