Alright then.

I have received email addresses from (and sent links to the Google Documents to):

- Adesro18

- Komrk

- Brother Argent

- Lysimachus

- ApostleRP

- Ashlander47

- Petragor

- Jeremy.Phillips

- Komrade_Atomic

- Mojake

So, the next steps:

On your character sheet, you will see a number of spaces, some of which you can begin to fill in immediately.

Character: Your Marine's name

Chapter: The Chapter they hail from

Speciality: Either Tactical, Assault, Devastator, Techmarine, Apothecary or Librarian, as appropriate.

Chapter Demeanour: This should be a short phrase that encapsulates your Chapter. If you're unsure, we can discuss this. It will provide bonuses later on if you try to roleplay in a way that fits your Chapter.

Personal Demeanour: A singular adjective that sums up your character's personality.

You can leave the rest blank for now.

Characteristics:

Now you can roll stats! To determine your statistics, for each roll 2D10 and then add 30. Put these in the top right hand square (the right-most grey one.) Your chapter should also give you a bonus (normally +5 to two stats, occasionally +10 to one, and rarely +5 to one and some other bonus.) which is added to this score. Each statistic should therefore be between 32 and 50 (potentially increasing to 55 if you have an appropriate bonus.) If you don't know the stat bonuses for your Chapter, ask me and we will discuss!

After having rolled all your stats, if there is one you don't like, you may choose to re-roll, but must keep the re-rolled statistic.

Let's see how you get on with this! Let us know any surprises or disappointments!

EDIT:

As far as I am aware:

AHP - We agreed that the Marines Revenant get +5WS/BS

Lysimachus - Stormbringers have +5AG/+5INT

ApostleRP - Star Phantoms have +5BS/+5WP

Komrade_atomic - The Silver Skulls get +5INT and a bonus Fate Point

Jeremy - Blood Ravens get +5 INT and some bonus knowledge skills which we'll cover later.

Well, got that done. Had some good luck on the two stats I cared most about with Ballistic Skill and Fellowship getting a 19 and 15, but Int, Per, and Will I rolled 3 combined 6s in a row. So i decided to reroll Per... for a 7. Overall though it's what I'm used to in rolling stats in RPGs haha.

Hi Komrk - did we agree that you'd just use Raven Guard bonuses - along with their solo/squad modes and table? (So +5AG/PER)?

I would say that "focused" is not exactly what I'd expect from a Chapter Demeanour (that's more of a personal demeanour.)

The Raven Guard demeanour is "Son of Night." You could use the Raven Guard one, or try something else - something like "Strike from the Shadows", "An unexpected quarter," "The Hidden Blade" - an attitude or ethos that shapes your Marine's way of thinking.

Also, your rolled stats should be in the top-right (grey), not the bottom-right (black).

Alright, I've gone and rolled my statistics and filled out the basics as instructed. +5 to toughness and agility for chapter bonuses. I think I made out pretty good for my rolls. I feel it was rather consistent so to speak.

It's when you re-roll and get WORSE.

MR.

Hey now... one of my favourite characters of all time suffered that fate and after modifiers had a 6 int in 3.5 D&D.

I’ll get that fixed, wasn’t particularly sure what to aim for. We did agree to just use Raven Guard Stats/Modes/Advancements etc.

Edit: Completed

I Dmed D&D for a long time and one player of mine rolled a 6 int. Although he turned this into one of the greatest of my players characters of all time. Sometimes these little flaws are the best.

I'm finding it hard to come up with a single word to describe Achillion's demeanour. The current one is a placeholder, but there's more to him than that which I'm struggling to condense into a a singular adjective.

I did well with my stats, re-rolled a 36 in toughness to a 43 which was handy. I took +5 Strength and Agility as per the BA bonus. I wouldn't have minded a higher Willpower but hey-ho!

I know, perfect stats can be fun for a one off, but for a campaign game, I'd rather have flaws to explore and overcome.

I had a quick re-read of your character description, particularly the personality part Mojake. It is hard to make a single word define your personality, but I suppose it should be the most important aspect. Perhaps maybe some suggestions could be:

Bellicose

Ruthless

That might reflect his, what I perceive to be, battle lust.

I rolled stats too, all above Average except BS at 36, so let’s hope none of the enemies know how to stay at range. I’m sure the rest of you tacticals/devastators can help though

Don't worry too much about that, if using a bolter in the semi-auto mode you get a nice +10, if they are at half your optimal range (making it short-range) you get another +10 and you get more mods to hit based on the size... it's pretty easy to stack things up to get +60 (the maximum) to hit.

For melee weapons, it's a bit harder to stack things up as there are fewer mods to take advantage of.

The upside is adding Strength to damage, which is Massive for a Space Marine.

Besides, a maximum of 96% chance to hit an enemy? For one of the Emperors finest? Clearly unacceptable.

Mojake - I love, love, love "We do not stand idle" as a Chapter Demeanour for the Angels Encarmine.

For a personal demeanour - Restless? Driven? Bellicose isn't a bad option, although that sounds a little too confrontational towards your peers.

Rolls for Brother Titus: Posting these here as I couldn't get the spreadsheet to edit on my mobile device, will add these (and other details) later tonight when I can use my laptop.

WS: 9+9+30=48

BS: 8+4+30=42

Str: 6+3+30=39

T: 1+1+30=32

Ag: 7+3+30=40 (Stormbringers Chapter increase +5 = 45)

Int: 6+1+30=37 (Stormbringers Chapter increase +5 = 42)

Per: 9+7+30=46

Wp: 9+3+30=42

Fel: 4+2+30=36

No-one will be shocked, I chose to reroll my Toughness value! Reroll got: 8+6+30=44. That's much more like it!

Reasonably happy with that. The first roll was awesome, but it went downhill a bit after that! Given that he's more of a shooty character I would have preferred to swap the WS and BS, but you can't have everything! I guess I can just focus on shooty stuff when I start spending xp?

Having fixed the T issue, my worst roll was Fellowship... but that actually works quite nicely narratively for Titus, so I'm not too upset!

If you are a player who has proceeded apace through their character creation, I have emailed you a PDF document that will help you set up your Power Armour. In Deathwatch, the armour you wear has a character of its own - it may be sympathetic to the warrior who wears it, or be truculent and difficult.

As before, let me know if there are any problems!

Alright, so I rolled Sneaky Beaky armor so I was wondering where I incorporate the +10 to agility and the +20 Strength. Top Right? Bottom Right?

The +10 AGI from Mk VI would go on as a note someplace.

When it comes to calculations in-game, it generally flows like this:

(Stat Mod X Unnatural stat mod)+ other mods.

So in that example for Tyber:

(STR 5 X Unnatural STR 2)+ 20 from PA = +12 damage

Does that help any?

That it does, thanks

To be clear:

The grey stats are your unarmoured statistics.

The black stats are your stats after armour. I haven't yet explained about ability modifiers.

Just work out your pattern of armour and your armour histories. I'll organise the neatening up afterwards.
