jimbo1701
Hi all. As expected no updates for a while as I literally haven’t picked up a paintbrush in about 6 weeks now. I’ve managed to sporadically assemble some bits here and there though so at least managing to work through some of the hobby backlog, just will be a while until anything substantial gets posted here I expect. jimbo1701
I still serve….. been a hectic few months of work and new baby but things slowly settling down now. I’ve managed to assemble a fair bit of stuff such as world eater and tyranids and am making a start on part 2 of my votannn now. Painting has been less easy to achieve so I’m massively behind on my painting goals for this year. However, first squad in 4 months done! jimbo1701
Some more progress, good heavens! Quandary with the drop pod was to get a white surface on it to apply the chapter decal, so I masked it off and sprayed a white stripe (better imo than a random white square) and did some red tidying / chipping. Needs the silver tidying then washing, red can then get some layers on it and I’m going to go heavy with the weathering on this one, maybe even with a chipping pencil. In the background I am still assembling votann stuff. Cheers. I’ll be lucky to get halfway with things at this stage tho. Original list: 5 jump assault intercessors company heroes and captain land raider 5 scouts drop pod gladiator repulsor executioner brutalis 5 more jump intercessors 5 more stern guard 3 more characters* 3 more characters* * terminator Chaplain, bike chaplain, reiver lt, jump captain, gravis captain, one other I forget. Underlined ones done / in progress. Any suggestions for which of the others I should aim for? Here’s a pic of things as they were end of last year. jimbo1701
Small updates, getting some more paint / decals on the drop pod and have votann all assembled awaiting basing and spraying. jimbo1701
Hi all. I’m still going, though painting output has been practically nil so I’ve been focussing on the more achievable assembly projects. Bad for my completed hobby targets, good for my assembly backlog, which is dwindling. Not taken many photos but I’ve been putting together some darkoath for aos, eldar for 40K and some heresy models to use for alpha legion 40K. The models below are 30k models but built to be 40K chaos proxies, hence the loadout. jimbo1701
Greetings all. Here we are again. 2024 was an interesting hobby year for me as any plans I had made were instantly derailed by the arrival of new baby. What started out as a very promising hobby year quickly went off the rails in April. My usual monthly hobby pledges went out the window and it became apparent that painting was to be a lot more challenging than assembling models, as the former meant sitting down undisturbed for extended periods whereas the latter I could pick up and put down when able. As a result I have exceeded my assembly plans for the year but fallen short of painting plans. Hopefully I can rebalance things next year. Here’s the roundup split into 3 posts, imperium first: Fails: Main fails this year were painting related and as mentioned the sons of orar comprised a fair chunk of this. Second year running I failed to meet my death guard or sororitas painting target. Sons of orar: I managed to paint around half of what I was hoping with a land raider, company heroes conversions, 5 jump assault intercessors, 5 scouts and a few characters rolling off the assembly line. I’ve nearly finished a drop pod but find it the most dull model to paint. Plan is to pick up next year with what was missed off this year. Rather than being finished before 11th drops I suspect this army will now need attention for a bit longer to finish off. Ultramarines: I originally envisioned this army as a 3 year project - 4th company elements in the first year, 1st company second year and 10th company the third year. I smashed through the 4th company but it took a lot more time and effort than originally envisioned. I wasn’t set to assemble anything else til next year but have now assembled the 1st company elements and am partway through the 10th, so well ahead of schedule. Salamanders: I couldn’t resist this beautiful army a member of the local gaming community was selling. I’ve got about 25 more models on the assembly table to take it up to 2000 points which he has kindly offered to paint using the same techniques as the existing army. This is the first time I’ve bought a prepainted army and wasn’t sure how I felt about it initially, but it’s certainly helped with the painting backlog! Black templars: small update for these guys with some company heroes, more crusaders and a jump intercessors squad. deathwatch: Last minute end of the year addition with some of the units that have popped up to add into kill teams in the last 3 years, so jump intercessors, infernus marines, a few characters and desolation marines. Imperial agents: Picked up the combat patrol and assembled a small force of arbites to go alongside inquisitorial henchmen. Custodes: These guys just needed some sisters of silence assembling and bases to be made for them - I used a GSW roller and some milliput so now they are all in a good place. jimbo1701
Orks: Annual ork basing marathon, this time focussing on some blood axe and got elements. Next year will be the end of my ork sort out hopefully selling off some unwanted stuff too, just in time for them to be revamped in 11th and start the process over again….. Eldar: I had a box of eldar odds and ends to assemble, mostly corsairs and aspects, with a smattering of drukhari. Was great fun to go through and assemble them. Need warmer weather to spray them up now as with many other things I have ploughed through. Votann: My Votann wave 2 now based and zenithal sprayed. Sadly the white is slightly lighter than the wave 1 so I think I need to mask off the bases and revisit wave 1. Plus decide on a colour scheme. Tau: Well, auxiliaries at least. New kroot and vespids are glorious. Managed to get the army set and vespid KT put together. Tyranids: One of the larger projects for the year, I wanted to do a big sort out of my nids, selling some and adding the newer range in place of them. All were sprayed up so mission accomplished. jimbo1701
Chaos and miscellaneous lastly: World eaters: 2 combat patrols, the Xmas boxed set and Khârn (plus a late entry in the form of a lord of skulls for Xmas this year) and now I have a solid core to build on for world eaters. All assembled and mostly zenithal sprayed. Alpha legion: I scrapped some of the older mk4 heresy marines and basically started from scratch with this project using the big heresy boxed sets and a couple of upgrade sets as the basis. Most of the squads are assembled now just awaiting a spray and the bases are all already finished. I’m going to spray them silver then contrast or ink over that. Iron warriors: Using other heresy starter models I’ve put together some vehicles. Ive got a couple of squads of mk3 and tbh have sold most of the older mk3 I’d saved for this project, hoping to replace it with some mk2 if the rumours of plastic mk2 next year are true. Darkoath: I love the models from AOS but have little interest in the game. However, I’ve picked up some darkoath sets and with the release of the army box I started to put them all together. I will grab a spearhead next year then call it a day on collecting them. Looking forward to painting something non 40K eventually. Scenery: I love assembling scenery and this year put together the tau gunrig, void shield generator, new kill team scenery plus a few random bits pictured below. Next year: As well as continuing the sons of orar project I have a few things to focus on next year. Thanks to efforts this year the assembly pile of shame is dwindling. I have a bit more scenery to looks through and some legions imperialis boxes, which I’m both excited by and a bit intimidated by given the scale. Purchase wise I’m going to limit myself to new release box sets next year, mainly eldar and kill team. jimbo1701
Managed to get the smurf expansion assembled, need to base them still. Army is complete now, though I do have a land raider to grime up a bit from my old firstborn ultramarines. Heck of a lot of spraying to do when things warm up a bit.
