Hello everyone,

Getting back into the game, looking to start DA for a more in-your-face style of play to go with my Astra Militarum's backfield firepower. I've come up with the following, but I'm torn on how to spend the remaining 70 pts.

The general tactic is speed on the Ravenwing to strike isolated elements of the enemy force pivoting around an anchor of Deathwing holding the center, tarpitting anything big the opponent

I'm also trying to keep it reasonably fluffy, with the idea that this is a fallen-hunting force.

Ravenwing Outrider Detachment

HQ:

Capitan on Bike - TH/SS - Reliquary of the  Repentant - Warlord: Fury of the Lion - 130

Talonmaster - 160

Elites:

Ravenwing Black Knights x5, Corvus Hammer x5 - 225

Fast Attack

Bike Squad, 2x chainsword, 2x plasma gun, combi-plasma - 180

Bike Squad, 2x chainsword, 2x plasma gun, combi-plasma - 180

Bike Squad, 2x chainsword, 2x plasma gun, combi-plasma - 180

Land speeder Vengeance - 120

Deathwing Vanguard detachment

HQ:

Interigator-Chaplain - Jump Pack, catechism of fire - 110

Librarian in terminator armor - 105

Elites:

5x deathwing knights, watcher in the dark - 240

5x SB deathwing terminators - 185

Ravenwing apothicary - chief apothicary, hero of the chapter (selfless healer) - 115

Wow, 2000 points can really disappear fast.

One idea I had would be to downgrade the Bike Captain from a thunder hammer to a power maul, then give him the Mace of Redemption.  You'd achieve about the same effect, but save 15 points.

Squeeze a few more points out, and you could take a Deathwing Ancient with the Pennant of Remembrance. I'd maybe get the extra points by dropping the plasma guns/combi plasma from a Bike Squad and just run them bog standard with chainswords. That way you have a fairly expendable unit to send off on secondaries and/or go chaff-chewing.

I agree with Raziel. You could squeeze more points out of this list.

You have only taken 3 bike squads, 9 units. T5. 1 wound each, meaning that it will take significantly less than 20 wounds to punctuate most of your army.

Like, i can give you an example of how much dark eldar could hurt you in just one round.

one venom costs 65 points. it can pump out 12 shots/venom each round. and you can also get around 5 kabbalites that can fire.

in 2000pts i would be getting so much more than just 9 bikers.

i would be hitting you with probably around up to 200 ~ dices that wound everything on 4+.

i mean, do you really think this is as good as it gets?

sure, you can run and hide, but bikes are meant to tank stuff.

nuff said. cut out the small costs here and there and maximize your bikers. because those plasma guns hit hard but you need to think in terms of quantity too.

Well taken on cutting some costs, though as point, bikers are 3 wounds each, not 1, and I'd like to maintain some hitting power. I'm concerned just dropping plasmas entirely will weaken the list substantially

Is the Mace of Redemption worth the CP? Given I'm already at 9. I'll likely drop the cobmi-plasmas, list will be amended to reflect, I'll get to that later today

It will be whenever you play against Chaos. You'll be doling out mortal wounds with that thing.  It's pretty likely you're going to play against Chaos at least once at most tournaments. Plus it doesn't come with the -1 on your to hit rolls, so you'll be hitting with it more.

Fair point. Can you take multiple relics on one character? I didn't think so, and this would require it, given he currently has the reliquary of the repentant, which I would imagine would be more generally useful.

Alternatively, is the captain even necessary? I was thinking the reroll ones would be good escorting the plasmas, but if those 100+ points are better spent elsewhere, it may be worth removing him.

Here's what I've got after cutting the combi plas

Thinking on it, given the pennant only effects one squad in the list, and is missing likely at least two turns of use, why not replace it with a ravenwing champion who has the reliquary of repentance, give the captain the mace of absolution instead of the thunder hammer, and use the remaining 45pts on...something ?
