Volkite serpenta and powerfist? Aren’t any more Sons of Horus with rules but not models are there - so a generic Praetor or a sign of new character getting rules?

It'll almost certainly be a Praetor.

  • SoH "Praetor" (command set) is old and was poorly scaled even by the standards of the day
  • Gear doesn't match any existing SCs without models or prominent characters without rules (e.g. Aximand)
  • SoH are facing off against IF in the upcoming box, and IF have already had their two new Praetors revealed
  • Scenic base on this model similarly styled to the scenic bases on the Imperial Fist Praetors

If I were a betting man I'd say a legion dispatch tonight showing off this PA model + a Cataphractii SoH Praetor is quite likely

Also, the silhouette of the imperial fist commander in the leaks looks nothing like the two praetors previously shown. Maybe the two characters in the upcoming box are named characters?

The praetors/officers in that plastic box will just be generic, usable for any legion. Whereas Forge-World's praetor range will focus in on specific legions, so it won't be named characters coming in the plastic release.

Well, at least this leak for this mini means we won’t have to deal with the inevitable “is it plastic” rumors and stories that pop up on Spikey Bits whenever a new Heresy model comes out these days.

Probably just generic plastic characters at a guess, if this is intended as a launch set.

... the scenic base on this model is considerably larger than the IF Praetors, and very different in style. It's even larger than Maloghurst's.

Bit jarring.

It being larger than e.g. Maloghurst's means little - SC bases have ranged from zilch to a full display over the years. The styling also isn't all that different from the IF Cata's base. 40mm base could indicate a character but as SoH will undoubtedly get new Praetors, I still lean towards the latter.

Interesting to note, I was building my Maloghurst and noticed he came on a 40mm base just like most of the Primaris character releases.

Usually I’d pass this off due to scenic bases but Mal’s was pretty threadbare as far standards go for named characters.

Nothing indicative, but it was interesting to note.

It’s pretty funny whoever is building this model is drip feeding us - my gaming group will burn the candle at both ends to post pictures in our chat about new models lol

I’m curious too what piece is missing from the far right sprue in between the heads and the topknot.

I would assume new overall to match the new chaos marines. I am more and more convinced the reason the chaos marine revamp is taking so long is because it's paired with updating the heresy range.

So I did a really quick crop, move and line job on it (I'm sure people with better eyes than mine can do better) and the new SoH praetor is a smidge bigger than the Mk3 but is standing up straighter as if viewing the battlefield rather than hunched over in a fire-fight.

Interesting, I had assumed that the 'revamp' was done and finished. I had lost hopes that the excessively trimmed out Raptors would vanish.

I'm in the camp that believes Berserkers are a "when" and not an "if" regarding an updated kit (and that any finecast and 3rd edition plastics will eventually get replaced). A digital template for a Mk3-5 assault pose squad could form the basis for a late-Heresy World Eaters unit (less chaos, more legion specific details) and a new Berserker kit (more chaos, less legion specific details). Ditto for Night Lords and Raptors.

New Berzerkers are definitely a when rather than an if, but I think there's little chance that you'll ever see GW do a plastic "late heresy berzerker" box alongside a new berzerker box. They'll just do the latter, which will inevitably be part of a major World Eaters release. Raptors are also reasonably new by GW standards and it's unlikely they'll be replaced. That's not to say that e.g. CAD designs drawn from the new plastic MK VI won't form the basis of a Noise Marine kit or potential plastic MK V won't form the basis of a Berzerker kit (both examples per Jes Goodwin's sketches), but they're not going to double up on unit concepts like that.

^This is what I meant, a set a basic CAD templates and then tweaked for 40k and 30k units.
