MaliGn
Here's my now complete and publishable Word Bearers Lord Discordant, built and painted for the Brush Beast 2021 competition on Facebook. Since they have now gathered all the entries and judging is underway I can now share the finished work. I tried to push myself as much as I could, refining techniques I already use to the best of my ability. The model itself has a new rider, mainly built from the Dark Apostle model, but with some alterations. I won't know until next week how I got on in the competition, but it was fun taking part. Let me know what you think! Tallarn Commander
A gorgeous model! And, as always, your thoughtfully composed base accentuates the model. sitnam
Seeing this thing gets me anxious to get started on my Lord Discordant idea. Great Job! Magos Takatus
Wow, that is extremely well executed. The only constructive criticism I can raise is that there isn't very much contrast between the mount's flesh and the armour so it's not easy to instantly tell them apart. Perhaps a greenish-brown or a really pale skin colour would have contrasted more? Apart from that little nitpick I am very impressed. The detail on the stone floor is very impressive, especially where the legs have cracked the tiles. MaliGn
Impressive work.  Thanks Bjorn!   Well done sir!    Cheers!  That is very cool! So much character! Good luck job.   Thanks!  A gorgeous model! And, as always, your thoughtfully composed base accentuates the model.   Thank TV, input quite a bit of work into the base and although it is not that different from my normal scheme I did do a fair few things a bit differently.  Seeing this thing gets me anxious to get started on my Lord Discordant idea. Great Job!  Don't be, it's a really interesting model, I would suggest you use subassemblies where you can as it is Hella fiddly to get at lots of it otherwise.   Wow, that is extremely well executed. Thanks, the flesh does start out as a very pale flesh time, but I like to make it look inflamed and sore around the openings in it and where it connects to the armour, on this thing there are a lot of those areas so it ended up a lot redder than I would have preferred. Magos Takatus
I also like the silver metal. It looks like a non-metallic-metal effect to me, which is something I've been a bit shy to attempt. I like how it look on the underside of the tail in particular. Yeah, it's my version of an NMM technique, which I should push to improve for silvers as I am reasonably happy with my golds, but I don't want the army to look to inconsistent. This is done via several stages of drybrushing with three shades of gray then edge highlighting with the same three and then spot highlights of white. I will occasionally add washes here and there to darken sections and add extra shadow where I feel I need it. In future I will start to look to add more colour and glazes to the process to sell it better.
