bloodhound23
Some more INQ procrastination. Sometimes you have to stop and appreciate the marvel of 1.) a clean slice job and 2.) emerging unscathed from the possibility of stabbing yourself with a hobby knife. Might do a right hand swap and a left arm swap, a la @KrautScientist with his kit bash of the crashed Aquila pilot, we’ll see. I’m going to resist trying to fit models into stories as I build and just let the components do the talking. Rule of cool first, explanation later- is no crime. I do prefer to have a story though, but if a bit fits, I am happy to have fun trying to find a different way of making sense of it. Brother Carpenter
And the skull maybe a bit more brown washes, it now stands out a bit I think. That might also be the problem with the skull on your building. Maybe add some couloured wires on the mechanicus skull also. Great models anyway! Very nicely done. bloodhound23 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373036-violent-gods-3rd-return-to-the-hobbys-the-charm-updated-02082025/page/5/#findComment-6079267 Share on other sites

I tried watering down the Agrax- and I agree with what I've seen others post regarding how much darker the newer formulation is- in an effort to reduce splotching/pooling, and I think in doing so it's come out too subtle. I have other versions of this scheme with the older Agrax that look good, so I might try another thinned wash. I have been trying to avoid doing too much work on the terrain since it cuts into the infantry paint slog hours, but I think you're right about the cables as well. The entire scheme is not itself noir enough to allow me to get away with not painting them, unfortunately. bloodhound23
Couple of lighting adjustments just for clarity, but here are two. bloodhound23
Up top is Malvero, for whom I have recently written some backstory as part of my contribution the Liber’s Iron Gauntlet Challenge. I think I had had these models built just for a bit when I came up with my Index Traitoris for them back in 2017 for that Iron Gauntlet Challenge. I had rough ideas about sort of totemic and mystical renegades and had just read Portents, and I was looking to engage again but wasn’t really in a place to be building stuff (bad relationship). It certainly is a relief to be in a place to finish these finally. Might want to add a stubble effect, and the base needs finishing and the service stud might still need shading, but both are basically done. Need to varnish the lenses on everyone as well. For this more recent SM Heroes-based kitbash, you can see I added a bit of Seraphim Sepia and some highlights of Screaming Skull to the skull itself, and I think it works. I’m also taking suggestions on colors for rockcrete tactical rock bit with the exposed pipe. I can’t do silver, obviously. (lol) Thanks for looking and thanks to everyone for their comments and advice. I’m relieved to have some time off between now and early January to knock these (all 6 actually) out. Pearson73
Solid work. As for the tactical rock(crete) maybe something pale and washed out would work? The contrast will complement the other colours, but it should also be muted enough to avoid dominating the visuals. Maybe a stone colour, with some greeny washes to get into the details? Or is the detailing such that it looks more like a metallic material? Firedrake Cordova
The skull looks good. Way back in the day, the way to paint bones used to be a mix of brown and yellow ink (which ends up quite similar to sepia), and then drybrush with ivory (Bleached Bone). For the tactical rock ... what about a neutral grey (Dawnstone?), to make it concrete? Or Karak Stone? Both of those should contrast with the base and armour? I actually had to edit the last post from “Bleached Bone” to “Screaming Skull”. And I like the idea of Dawnstone. @Pearson73 it’s neutral on whether it’s metal or not, it could be. The edge and the pipe I’ll do in copper, then I think I’ll do the flooring in grey and then catch it with Karak Stone which is already the last drybrush color for my bases anyway. Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. bloodhound23
Alright, still a few more passes on the black rims, maybe some more touch-ups here and there, but they are definitely done enough. Here's Malvero: Here's Nothus: I'll try and get a group shot tomorrow if I can. I've been making good progress and have been enjoying the flow of things, but our dog unfortunately has cancer and will need surgery and follow-up chemo pretty soon, so I'll likely have to take a bit of a break while we take care of all this. Thoughts and/or prayers are most welcome. bloodhound23
New one to add to what might be a Skitarii Kill Team. This could be a count-as surveyor/omnispex. Side view. Both together. I hope to fill out a whole squad for game use, or even just a few for narrative use. I'm still trying to develop my world Dalarna—a little sandbox in the Segmentum Pacificus where they can interact with my DIY faction. I imagine these to be the bodyguard/mining enforcers to a Mechanicus research station directed by a rogue adept who's interested in mining some sort of substance with otherworldly properties, of course. P.S. further prognosis awaits but our dog had a successful surgery and is feeling much better. She'll still need chemo but the primary tumor and a few lymph nodes were removed, and she is in good spirits. Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I like it Can't claim credit for it! But I agree. I've been removing the back park of the collar on the mining suit and using a bit of green stuff to raise up the neck level. I've also been using a bit of green stuff in the shoulder joints to fill in the recesses and allow some movement to make the left arms connect with the hand attached to the galvanic rifles. If I need to angle them a bit, I can—thanks to the green stuff. I think they could fit if I were to shave down the sides of the torsos, but angling them a bit works fine, too.
