Marshall Mittens Plague Fleet!

This thread will be for tracking the progress of my Plague Fleet!

I bought 6 Blight Haulers and 3 deathguard halves of DI at the start of 8th, and outside of building the Blight Haulers, it just added to my pile of shame.

Recently I bought the Battle Force, 2 more Plague Burst Crawlers, Blight Lord Termies, and another box of Deathshroud, and 5 boxes of Plague Marines, and over the last two weeks, have built most of it. Also bought Typhus and some special characters, though not all of them.

I plan on going with a bone and black color scheme, and should have my force assembled by next weekend, and ready to start painting, after years of collecting dust with the original project!

Hopefully some of you will enjoy my efforts!

I have finished building my forces, added another box of Plague Marines to round things out, and put some of my duplicate characters and the Pox Walkers to the side for now, so I can focus on the core I want to paint for the upcoming challenge.

Anyway, here is a picture of what I am going to start with, painting wise. I plan to paint the extra stuff once this is done, and have 3 figures to use as test scheme models.

I painted up my first 12 models, composed of my 'This and That' squad of sculpts I had left over from my first 6 squads, as well as a test model and an extra plasma dude.

Here they are. Not spectacular, I know, but I think they look ok! Basing is to keep in standard with how I base all my armies! The first fellow was the test model, adjusted from there!

Thank you both! For the checkers I draw the pattern and fill in the black! I use a .005 micron pen to draw the pattern, then fill it in with black templars contrast, it works well for me! You can see it if you look close, but at table top distances you can't tell.

I have been procrastinating on my death guard since my first Dark Imperium box, but when I saw the black and bone color of the deathguard in the DG vs Dark angels Horus Heresy free supplement I knew I wanted to try that color scheme.

I imagined them a bit different in my mind, but my painting skill rarely matches my imagination, but I think they are a decent table top standard.

The rest if my squads are either Champ + 2plasma + 2blight + 5 bolter or Champ + 2 Clever +2 Flail + 2Melta + 3bolter and I wish I did more axe and mace, flamer, and double knife guys as those look cool.

33 PL into my vow, not making bad time!

This squad is a little darker; I skipped a step after the apothecary white step where I normally put on a layer of Ivory paint, but I skipped it. For some reason, while removing the enamel wash, it went down to bare plastic in a few places, so I was not as aggressive removing the wash, and will do the acrylic layer in the future.

Also a little overcast so not as great lighting.

Its to humid for me to prime my daemon engines I need to prime right now, so I took more pictures!

Here are my Deathguard elite characters. I took some pictures of some of them before, but the light sort of sucked.

Here they are! I still can't do decent looking plasma!

Today has been pretty productive.

I managed to get my blighthaulers all primed and basecoated apothecary white, and even did the first 'test' model for them. I will do them in 3 squadrons of 3, with checkers denoting which squadron they are in.

Anyway, here are some very badly lit pictures of my first WIP blighthauler! I love these models! Easy to paint too.

They look good, but you might want to bring some of the green on your infantry models onto the front of them - at the moment they seem to be lacking (at least from the front) that bit of colour that would solidify them as beign deathguard and as belonging to your army.  Perhaps a green stripe or two on the non checkered fender?

I have their organic parts green, though I suppose you can't see that from the front. I do feel they need some color on the front as well, not positive how to add it in a way that fits. I will add some pictures of the green bits soon!

Looking good! Everytime I see the checkers I am taken back in time and place.

Thank you! I like doing checkers. With a 005 micron pen I can draw the lines, then just block them in with black templar contrast.

I thought there was a fair amount of green on your infantry models, but less so on the MBH and Blightlords (where your shoulder pads are off-white too).  In looking at my 30k DG, I think the biggest difference in colours is the brass trim in many places as well as the darkened weathering (grime/rust).  Maybe a stronger third colour helps make a difference?

I've been taking inspiration from your thread here in helping to decide between painting my 40k DG heresy off-white with green/brass, or going DG green, or something different.  Yet to decide though as I like them all!

Don't paint minis while you are sick and on nyquil; I forgot like 3 steps, including the checkers, on my last group of MBH :(

In other news I am mostly done, with the exception of my PBC, with my AA pledge and the army in general! After this I will work on my next couple of projects, and probably come back to this sometime next year to do my huge horde of pox walkers. Should be done by the end of next weekend!

I will finish my A&A pledge, baring any surprises, like a week before the deadline, and might use that time to do a bit more weathering on my general horde.

Finished my army for the challange! Will add tufts, and do some more work to them later, for the ones that need it, once I have more time and tufts!
