Astartes Consul
‘For Ultramar and Old Terra’ ‘When my end comes, in the bloody manner it is fated to be, I am content that my brothers will remember me. That is all that I have ever hoped for myself. What troubles me is that, with my passing, the names of a thousand comrades of old will fade. That will be my final regret.’ - Iskandar Locke, XIII Legion. +++ Well, what's this? Another Age of Darkness project log? Just in time for the new edition! I'm aware that I am by no means the only person on the forum right now who is both hyped for Heresy 2.0 and keen to motivate myself to power through a backlog before the new stuff lands. I've also been in a bit of a hobby bare patch and for quite a while have been thinking of setting up a little, semi-narrative project log to help motivate me and share some of the substandard background material I've written for my Ultramarines. I currently have a few thousand points of XIII Legion and allied Imperial Army in various stages of completion, with vague plans to include some Sisters of Silence & Custodes that I have sat in a box somewhere. You can see some more of all my hobby stuff over on Instagram but to get this thread rolling, here is the last character I finished. In game he's a Delegatus / Warmonger (RIP) / Centurion for smaller point games. The Scorpion
That half-bare head was an absolute triumph of a sculpt. Every kitbasher loves it. If the Mk2 are brought back, this half-helmet concept should return in plastic. It has already been done for Mk4 in resin (see profile pic), surely it can be done again? Astartes Consul
Not had a huge amount of hobby time so far this week, but have realised I'e got some good photos of one of my Tactical Squads already uploaded to my B&C gallery. These guys were completed early last year, and are the last unit I painted without any airbrush use. So while the highlights aren't as good as models I've painted since, I'm still quite happy with their overall look & the various kitbashes I used to give them some interest. +++ Oros Tactical Squad - II Chapter - LXVI Company - XIII Legion +++ On 4/7/2022 at 6:57 AM, Pearson73 said: That's a great model, really like the pose and the shade of blue. Yeah its a great one, isn't it? Have used both of mine from the Legion Tank Crew set I got when it was LCTB now. Think there is a half-helm / rebreather head in the new MK VI kit by the looks of it though. Astartes Consul
Progress! After several months out of action with an injured back and then a load of work in the house meaning hobby space & time was tight, I've finally got some paint on models again. And while not exactly spectacular, I have managed to finish off the interior of the Spartan that will be carrying the Terminators into battle... Now just to paint the rest of the thing... The OSL is just GW Angron Red Clear airbrush paint over the off-white interior colour. Really easy tbh. As for my commitment, I thought that the plastic Spartan would be so easy to build compared to resin that the time I saved could be used on doing the interior. Unfortunately I am very good at procrastinating so still only have the interior done! On 10/17/2022 at 1:39 PM, Pearson73 said: The interior looks gorgeous. Astartes Consul
Recently, while working on some Kill Team, I've been planning some kitbashes to combine the new MkVI with bits of various Forge World resin. One result? MK VI Preatorian Breachers, but using the standard Legion Breacher shields so there is more room for decals/heraldry. Is this going to work, do we think? derLumpi, Marshal Rohr, lansalt and 5 others 6 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373773-%E2%80%98for-ultramar-and-old-terra%E2%80%99-xiii-legion-project-log/#findComment-5913029 Share on other sites

Thanks! Going to try both out - the rims on the MKIII one might be a bit big, purely because the slight scale difference between the MKVI body and resin MKIII arms means the shield sits very close to the body. Praetorians are combat focussed so the oversized offical shields dont make the most sense in my eyes, that one looks much more 'wieldy'. For shoulder pads if you have them MK4 pads with the thin trim work well with the Praetorian breachers. Adds a little more ornate-ness to them and ties in well with the head and shield trim detail compared to the otherwise plain-ness of MK6 Astartes Consul 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373773-%E2%80%98for-ultramar-and-old-terra%E2%80%99-xiii-legion-project-log/#findComment-5913188 Share on other sites

Good idea with the Mk IV pads, I have a fair few in my bitz box. One downside of the MK VI kit is the lack of trim details makes it quite difficult for a legion whose accent colour is...gold trim Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373773-%E2%80%98for-ultramar-and-old-terra%E2%80%99-xiii-legion-project-log/#findComment-5913265 Share on other sites
