What do we want in wave 2

I'm kinda hoping some of these unit names are themes they can expand on.

We've got a bunch of labels for different types of units, like Cthonian Beserks, Hearthkyn Warriors, Hernkyn Pioneers, and Einhyr describing both the Champion and Hearthguard, with Brôkhyr for the Iron-Master and Thunderkyn.

I'd love a Hernkyn unit on foot acting as scouts, snipers, or saboteurs. A Cthonian drill of sorts would be a cool unit, leaning into the mining guild connection. I imagine there's room to lean into all of these different themes, like to have a unit in heavy hazardous environment suits, or a pirate/mercenary unit, or everything in between.

But more than anything I want a gyrocopter.

This is largely echoing much of the above, but it'd be good to see:

  • A dreadnought/walker type model. Maybe even an upsized & upgunned version of the CORV models, so a floating dread? Or a larger, LoV, version of the Necromunda squat exosuit.
  • A flyer - I think gyrocopters and airships as there were aren't happening, but something that calls back to them in a flyer role would be ace
  • Artillery - thudd guns etc again seem too low tech for what they're doing with LoV. But something which offers a bigger gun than the brokhyr carry must be doable
  • A second troops choice. Hernkyn on foot as Lemondish mentioned would fit this.
  • A fane. I know fortifications are largely useless in game, but personally I like them from a modelling perspective. Something like a battlefield fane that serves as a command post for a Grimnyr or Karl or something, giving buffs out as they communicate with their Votann.
  • Termite drill equivalent - between the berserks and exosuits, there's plenty of mining references. So let them mine onto the battlefield.
  • Generally more Ironkyn. It's rubbish that there's only one robot head in the hearthkyn kit. Need more robot dudes!

Definitely this. The Hearthkyn sprues aren't short of head options, it's inexplicable why only one of them is Ironkin.

Ironkyn heads upgrade sprue please GW or else we're all headed to the 3D printers.

I can maybe see a drill in our future with all the mining stuff. Forge world has that mining suit, wonder if that will be included as something we can take?

I remember when they did the Ironhead Prospectors reveal the presenters said they were specific to Necromunda and wouldn't be getting 40k rules.

Well nutz. Missed opportunity if you ask me. On the other hand I don't want a Custodes situation where we have all these cool models from FW and the army becomes super expensive or more expensive than it needs to be to build because we rely on FW models. That being said, we'll probably get whatever ends up in KT. Though the rules will be terrible. lol

Apparently the Hearthkyn sprues have Kill Team options, people are just waiting for the rules.

Valrak has mentioned a new series of books coming like Psychic Awakening - could be a good place for a little more Kin lore and maybe a few models!

I really would love a unit of Hernkyn on foot- those long coats are so cool, we definitely need another troop choice or two. I think a few more characters would be good. The Kahl is cool but I'd like more variety and kit bash options. Also reading the lore again gunships are mentioned a lot so I reckon a flyer is a cert.

Yes, there is a medic, comms, stuff like that. Should be interesting seeing them come to KT. Can't wait!

What about a GIANT HEAD! A Votann. I am only 1/2 joking.

Is there anything to stop people using the Necro prospectors gang as just a regular squad?

Im using an older edition so have got a lot more freedom in this regard.

The main issue with using the Ironheads as Hearthkyn is the weapon choices - whilst I can't see anyone having a problem with somebody proxying both of the basic Weapons as Autoch Bolters, there's only enough per kit of eight to make four guys. And the Heavy Stubber, whilst a perfect alternative HyLas, is the only special weapon in the kit so you'd need to source something else for the other guys.

Although, having said that, given the fact they can't be equipped only with a pistol, I suppose you could convert up a Medic/Scanner/Comms guy using the pistol-equipped Prospectors. That way, three kits would get you enough weapons/arms to make a twenty-strong unit with a Theyn, 12 "normal" Hearthkyn, the 3 specialists and 4 guys with fancy guns.

....Dammit, now you've got me seriously considering building myself a 10-Kin unit of "Hernkyn Scouts" to ride in a pair of Sagittaurs!

  • 4 weeks later...

I really want a large mech, that is a Living ancestor that a Votann can control.

have it be a primarch tier character/construct.

give it an Aura: Ancestors are watching, auto pass or fail morale to models within 6"

I very much want to see a Dreadnought type unit. A revered Ancestor that is entombed in a Kin dreadnought so that their wisdom is forever available and they can still fight to for their League.  I would like to see a melee troop option and an assault version of the Hearthguard. Some kind of storm shield/melee weapon option.

With how slow the army is perhaps another transport: a drilling machine like the Astartes and Ad mech have to get the units around the table in. Some version of a Gyrocopter for a flyer. Some version of Irondrakes so you have heavy flamer infantry units.

I also would love and kinda need to see some Black Library Kin novels and fluff. The codex is very sparse on how the Kin actually *live*. Do they have romance? Do they ever have natural birth or is it always their version of clones? Do they any kind of friendships amongst themselves? Do they hold personal grudges and store them in a data slate? So much of the flavor of the Dwarf and the Kin needs to be expounded upon.
