Seeing how ineffective the frag round had been against the ‘gryn the Trooper hastily loaded a precious krak grenade. Instead of the reassuring thud there was click.

The las hit on her arm stung, and it was some distance yet to the Trooper ahead of here, but there to one side another just emerged from beside the Tree. Banking in her charge Helene redirected her momentum. Unfortunately the sore arm twitched at the wrong moment and her chainsword swung wide.

 

Josiepth

Regaining consciousness Josiepth opened the driver side door and half jumped half stumbled from the Goliath into the Undergrowth.

Aria

 

The shot was well placed but Aria was already moving... or perhaps it was just an instinctive hesitation triggered by the lingering wrongness of the voidborn. Whatever the case Aria easily evaded the hail of fire as she moved to the cover of the goliath before fate could decided that she had tempted it too liberally.

 

Dodge 6 - pass. Think i'm going to put a few more advances into agility/dodge if we run into any more hellguns :p

Trooper in Grapple

If I understand grappling right Varn wins the opposed roll and now inflicts damage and fatigue, damage negated by armor but 1 fatigue inflicted.

 

Getting his arm free as his assailant lost his grip the Trooper reached for his knife. Unfortunately the ground below his left foot gave way a little, the soft ground slipping aside under the pressure of two brawling humans. He just manages to keep his balance, going down on one knee in the processes, this was not over yet even as the assailant found purchase on him again.

Inside David

 

As you climb aboard you can see that a lot of the contented that had been neatly packed away earlier is now scattered, perhaps from the rough handling by Josiepth as he tried to push the Goliath through the rough patch he had hit.

 

As you approach the Driver cabin you see it is empty, the side door open. There is a little blood sputtered over the steering wheel and dashboard, as if someone had coughed up blood. There is more by the door, a smudged hand print on the handle, a second on the panel, the kind of place one would have touched when pushing open the door.

At such close quarter the Hellgun would prove too clumsy, drawing his knife the Trooper lashed out a Helene to try and create some space between them. Catching her with the tip in a strike across the torso there was insufficient force behind it to insure the Fanatic.

As commanded the two troopers closest to Rahul sent another volley of Hellgun at the ‘gryn. The front armour of the beast was beginning to glow from all the imparted energy, but there was no sign that their opponent cared or noticed.

Seeing Aria board the Goliath that his comrade had so recently abandoned the Trooper left his position to head her off and recapture the vehicle. The artifacts they had been sent to secure where aboard after all.

One of the troopers along the shore had been shooting not at them but empty air. For a force that appeared well trained and disciplined this struck Ariel as dangerous, what had they missed? Even as she charged to support the Tribesman Ariel took another look at the shoreline.

 

For a moment there was a shape, a stooped humanoid perhaps, that from just the right angle was visible, then it was gone.

When Ariel was only a few steps away from Varn and the subdued Trooper she saw the Trooper free a hand and pull his knife.

 

“Oh no you don’t.”

 

Leaping forward, long years of training taking over, Ariel struck with precision. Power sword in hand she had just meant to disarm the Trooper with the blade, but muscle memory had hit the ignition button, and thus Ariel cleaved cleanly through armour flesh and bone, just below the elbow. The singeing stink of burnt flesh met their nose as the power field burned and cauterized the wound even as it cleaved past.

 

The Trooper’s head snapped up in shock, staring accusingly at Ariel. While there had been an involuntary whimper he did not cry out in pain.

 

 

 

Between round Three and Four

 

As Aria moved around the driver Cabin of David she suddenly heard Rahul, but quiet and distorted. Moments later, guided by the voice she found a commbead, Josiepth must have dropped it while he had been in the Goliath.

 

Across the sudden battlefield, in the ruined building by the shore where Varn and Ariel had all but subdued one of the troopers they too heard Rahul over the Troopers comms, and the reply.

 

“Acknowledged Sergeant, Valk en route.”

Round Four

 

The Valkyrie is now on its way, it will arrive and act at the end of this round, and will then roll for initiative and then join the initiative list next round. While it was cycling the lake earlier any of you that cared to have looked would have been able to discern that it has at least one multi-laser, it may have additional armaments.

Hunkering down behind the wall outcrop the Trooper cleared the dud from the launcher, taking the opportunity to chamber fresh rounds in the spend slot of the Drumm magazine.

‘How dare he lunge at her like that, with a Knife.’ Was Helene’s first though, habitual thinking ingrained by an aristocratic upbringing, a commoner would never dare such a thing in the presence of a Lady. Instantly she was furious with herself, she had renounced her family for service to the emperor, she needed to purge such thinking from her spirit. Calming again Fury was rekindled, ‘How dare he strike a faithful of the’ “God-Emperor”.

 

The last fragment of thought was shouted even as the Chainsword connected and Helene drove it on and on until the Trooper fell sideways, in multiple directions.

Lowering his gun fractionally the Trooper stared intently at the scorched vegetation, had he hit the thing? He had only seen it for a moment, and now, now there was no body in the grass. Perhaps it had fallen in a little dip. The Trooper recognized that as willful thinking, whatever it had been it had taken out one of their own without detection. These people where more dangerous than the Sergeant had said, more unholy.

 

The crunch and trickle of breaking stone, instinct drove the Trooper sideways, the rush of air as something passed.

Concentrating on removing the dud grenade and loading fresh ammunition the Trooper only saw the glint of the las pulse dance across his visor at the last second, too late to get out of its way or hunker down fully behind the wall, but perhaps enough to avoid the brunt of it.

 

He winced as the launcher heated up from the strike, but kept hold of it, he would have to be careful of it. He had once seen a solider get maimed when an ammo crate cooked off after an accidental lasgun discharge.

The Trooper had seen the ‘gryn coming, how could he not, lit up like a Spire in a firestorm with all the las shots he and the others had tried to bring to bear. The thing did not pull some simple club from its back, but a sword, tall as a man. For a Second the Trooper just stared, the quickly got out of the way, and conversation involving that sword would be a short one.

‘Had they underestimated this ragtag bunch?’ Rahul briefly wondered, professional pride prickling at how this was going. It should have been a simple, eliminating some rifraf and retrieve the find for the Lords. This was their home, why should some outsider take away their treasure.

Aria

 

Aria had only a crude understanding of the controls, but as the vehicle was moving slowly it seemed best to not risk making things worse.

 

Nothing they had would be of much use against an armoured flyer such as a valkyrie, but if it sought to take the artefacts from this vehicle then at least she would be somewhat safe here from their heavier weapons, for now.

 

Movement outside caught her attention as she pushed open the side door to try and draw a bead on the trooper that had run after her, at this range it was an easy shot but she was careful not to expose herself too openly to return fire should the man duck away at the last moment.

 

Half action aim, half action fire - short range at the red dot I am assuming is a guard just next to the goliath

Roll: 41 (+10 aim, +10 accurate, +10 short range) = hit

Damage: (+2d10 from accurate) = 9 7 8 +3 = 27 (I don't have my sheet to hand here, so if my BS is less than 41 it'll actually only be 19 damage)

Having avoided the first swing by the ‘gryn the Trooper tacticly withdrew at a run, the other had proven to be slow so distance was to their advantage. However the ‘gryn was faster with his sword then the trooper had supposed as he felt the blow on his back, sending him reeling forward, a glance only, he had gotten of lightly as he scrambled to his feet.

Seeing his comrade retreat from the ‘gryns onslaught and only barely getting away he also took some steps back while leveling his Hellgun once more.

“Just die!” the wildling uttered.

 

“If I am destined to join the Emperor this day then you heathen shall die as well.”

 

 

As he spoke he let his wearied body go limp. Relaxing into the grapple rather than fighting it, in so doing the Trooper manages to free his hand long enough to reach the grenades on his belt, moments later his hand came up, several pins in his hand.

You may attempt to dodge and may make one attempt per grenade, but each attempt after the first has a cumulative -10 penalty.

@Machine God, normally while in a grapple one cannot dodge, but as the Trooper stopped resisting the grapple I will allow Varn to dodge, but at a -5 penalty

Frag grenade Damage Varn

Instinct drove him away from danger, and in moments he was up against the wall, just as the first grenade exploded. By chance and fortune Varn was unharmed, with his leap back, the trooper, no longer pinned, started to slide down slope and the grenade force therefore was mostly directed at the trooper and towards the shore. The danger however was not over and Varn went to leap over the wall to take proper cover, and not quite in time as the shrapnel from a second explosion tore into his left arm from the back, sending Varn tumbling but now safely in cover from further explosions of the Former Trooper.

Alerted by Varns frantic scrabble for safety Ariel likewise tried to turn away from the Trooper, training from long ago moving her even as the mind caught up, but age bore its burden. While she did make it over the wall it was not without the injury as her right arm was puckered with shrapnel and blood was quickly dying her attire a sticky red.

 

Glancing over and seeing the Tribesman was alive but equally worse for wear Ariel spoke into the team comms network.

 

“Right Flank repelled, but we are both injured, going to ground.”

 

Crawling over to Varn Ariel helped both of them find a better hiding position.

 

Both Ariel and Varn are now hidden from the Troopers and count as having Concealment until spotted.

 

 

Valkyrie

 

Sweeping in over the treetops the nose mounted Multi-Laser opened up as soon as it had clear line of sight to the predesignated target coordinates.

Trooper with Grenade Launcher

His weapon currently rendered unusable the Trooper drew His pistol and considered his next move, the engagement had turned sour on them, and Sergeant Rahul had called in the Valk.

 

Looking around the area for the best place for it to set down, ruins be dammed, and seeingthe flattest part of ground he could set a signal flare.

 

 

Helene

With her foe vanquished Helene took a moment to catch her breath. Aware of the danger they were still in she crouched down to get lay of the land, she had been so focused on the foe ahead of her that she had lost sight of the others. One had been heading towards David, but it looked like her self-appointed body guard had taken care of that, as the slumped trooper was just visible in the grass.  

 

To her right Ravia was crouching behind a wall while the Mech Warrior Kasimir was out in the open, with several foes focused on him. Her path was clear.

Slowing as it switched to hover mode the pilot spotted the Goliath truck and the dead trooper infront of it. This was clearly the enemy and single press of the trigger button unleashed a fusillade of las pulses from the Multi-laser, raking the area with the majority slamming into the side of the truck.
