I'd definitely stick with that. My own preference would be to darken the grooves in the armour (like around the forearm of the hand holding the bolter grip), but that's a very subjective thing. Ace Debonair Posted March 30, 2023 Share Posted March 30, 2023 Apologies for my absence, brothers and sisters. It's been far, far too long since I took part in this. And in truth, it's been something I've been meaning to do for a while, but life keeps getting in the way. That said, I've not been idle in my absence. Since it's a bit rambling, I'll post about that in the spoiler below (there's also 5 freshly painted Stonebound marines in case anyone just wants to know if there's pictures) Spoiler At Christmas I played my first ever games of kill-team with two of my nephews. Admittedly, I dumbed the rules down a bit (more for my own sanity than anything) so there wasn't much in the way of sneaking around or using CP or anything of that kidney. Anyway; one of said nephews has never so much as picked up a space marine before, and has special needs. He's also the son of my eldest brother, which means he lost his father a couple of months prior and was struggling to find any reason to be happy (to be fair, so were we all) I gave him five of my White Hawks (mostly bolters, sarge with power weapon and bolt pistol) to pair up with my other nephew's Champions of Athlum (same loadout) and threw them against my orks (beast snaggas filling in for regular boyz), then against my Nids (LOTS of gaunts and some warriors - with MOAR gaunts when it became apparent my nephews were going to win easily). Both nephews, over the course of the game, went from being kinda disinterested to being wholly invested in the game in about three turns. The stories I could tell about those games (*especially* Brother Vakar, skilled with the blade - that is now his full official title) are stories of triumph and, dare I say, joy. I didn't mind so much that my boyz and bugs were getting crushed outright, because it put some much-needed smiles on the faces of my family. The one thing I did think of was how the nephew I'd loaned the Hawks to could do with a squad to call his own, and since he loves Dwarves, I set out to paint him some Stonebound: I may have included a heavy weapon too - that's fine, our other Chapters aren't short of firepower to balance the scales. I just need to paint some names on the bases so I can more easily keep track of who's who. Which brings me to this month - I've finally made a start on my Into the Dark set, with my Kroot Kinband. I thought I'd do something a little different with them, so whatever fine dining these boys have indulged in lately has turned them a most vibrant orange. Can't believe it's already April! And I also can't believe how motivated I stay due to the 12 month challenge! Thank you @Grotsmasha@Grotsmasha for setting this up and thanks to all of the other participants, because your work and effort also drives me forward! I find myself searching through my pile of shame near the end of the month in anticipation of the next month's vow and feel a steady itching to paint. With the new terminators revealed I feel a renewed love for those hulking murder machines, so I decided to finish a project I started long ago. Those are duplicates I got from the terminator heroes series plus my spare Blood Angels claws. Also one space hulk termi to fill the squad up to minimum strength. You see, there is already variation in height . Brother "come at me bro" is a short one. Maybe that's where his temper comes from? I will be converting some old Dark Elves from WFB, using the bodys and heads with arms and bits from cadia. It will be needed a lot of green stuff to fill the gaps between arms and torso.
