Horus Heresy Character Head Upgrades

Typically, I model all my marines with helmets, but these are great and I'm sure I can find an excuse or three to use some.

A lot of these are really great. Might actually get both sets despite the fact I dislike painting faces, they might push me to practice a bit to do them justice.

Oh yeah, these are pretty great. I've found resin heads a little easier to paint than plastic ones - the extra sharpness goes a long way when you get to the eyes.

Top left on set 1 looks like Zangief from streetfighter 2. Love these. Also two of the baldy ones with robotic eyes look like a Borged up captain Picard.

These are really nice, i do wish they'd themed them a bit tighter to certain legions (as id been mentioning a lot lol) but these are still a great selection in general.

I definitely prefer the first set but both are cool. It's great that these are suitable for both 30k and 40k on all types of marines (chaos, primaris, firstborn etc).

Nice to see an Upgrade set that is, essentially, pointless but really cool. Doesn't serve any in-game purpose to represent anything unique for a faction but makes our lives as hobbyists more fun.

Nice addition, a bit sad I didn't get a long-haired one for my Blood Angels, but overall a great addition to have.

Similar to others, while I think these are well sculpted heads, none of them make me think a marine is more 'Blood Angel' or more 'Emperors Children' so it's a pass to me. If I'd ended up doing Fists or Ultras I'd probably have grabbed a set to sprinkle in though.

Would've liked a few long hair ones too, wouldn't have to go crazy, something like the bare heads on the custodes bladeguard champion would be enough? Seems a shame not to take the opportunity.

It’s an established fact that a moustache grants a real world toughness bonus. Hopefully the rules represent this when equipping your miniatures with one.

I rarely use bare heads so I probably won't get these (although the respirator ones are tempting) but I am hugely impressed with the sculpt. They have to be some of the most realistic heads I have ever seen.

I quite like them. Not all will be useful for me but I do plan on getting a couple. This one in particular I'm after for a potential Luther conversion.

Regarding the slightly more loyalist vibe to a lot of these, I do think the clean and clear paint jobs here adds to that. His some of these with some different glazes & washes or do something with the eyes and they're going to look pretty traitorous I think.

 

Although also, wouldn't exactly be surprised now to see a 'Corrupted Astartes' head upgrade set down the line with a few small mutations, some more chaos-y facial expressions etc.
