Just a small update today. My chaos lord with jump pack has had his trim tidied up with iron breaker. Meanwhile I did the jump pack exhausts with iron warriors. For the teeth on the plasma pistol I used runelord brass and retribution armor for the crown and brows of the helmet as well as the chest skull

The victory laurels icon is warp lightning.

Made some good progress on my jump lord. Balthazar gold for skull, admin grey for the highlights on the jump pack. The exhausts are nuln oil, dry brush necron, agrax, dry brush necron again. Finally a highlight of runefang steel. Next time I'm going to try to find a way to do better red eye lenses. Though maybe not on the hellbrute because that looks like a pain to reach. Speaking of the hellbrute, now that nuln oil gloss is gone (damn you James workshop), I'm experimenting with mixing nuln oil with Vallejo gloss medium. Its come out ok on the hellbrute but nuln oil gloss was better and easier admittedly but I'm happy enough with this as a substitute.

P.S

I will buy any unopened pots of nuln oil gloss if you are selling.

Just a small update today. I decided to add scales to the central chest armour of the hellbrute and and finished the 60mm hellbrute base.  I did try experimenting with pro acryll steel instead of stormhost silver or ironbreaker for the downwards slant on the scale. I'm undecided if this ab improvement so far.

Pleased to report that the chaos lord with jump pack is done. Just in time for 11th edition to let him lead warp talons in a new detachment too! I also just bought the maximus battle group so I can finally add normal raptors to my repertoire. I went with the command variant hydra for the shoulder, and a generic skull icon to match with the alpha/omega icon. I think only the chains on his power fist are a real rank signifier personally.

For today, I painted in my blue mix on the Hellbrute and laid down the bugmans glow first layer for the the daemon flesh. Sadly I spilled it immediately over one of the feet so I'll have to repaint that. Ive decided I'm not going to bother tidying up the trim until all the daemon flesh is painted in. As long as I can keep it off the blue parts I think I'm ok.

I'm much happier with how the scales came out on the Hellbrute torso. I think the key is to paint them on a downwards sloping surface.

Daemon flesh is finally done! I used cadian flesh tone the Kislev flesh followed by caroburg crimson wash (which tragically spilled on my table) and druchii violet which is mixed with lahmian medium. Finally tidied up with a little more cadian. I'm aiming for a bruised and almost bleeding look on the flesh especially where the mechanics meet the flesh.

Next it's time to pick out the secondary metallics then start tidying up. I gotta remember to add the green shading on the blue armour too since this model is clearly warp tainted.

I really like that scale effect.  When I clicked your link for this page it took me back to Dec ‘23 where you painted a venom crawler.  That thing looked like a fabergé egg, very nice.

Thanks so much! The Venom crawler is one of my favourite pieces. The unique shape of the abdomen really helps sell the scale effect, I think.

I tidied up the daemon flesh with more Kislev then picked out all the pipes with Balthazar gold or iron warriors. I did the cables with holes eaten out of it in Mechanicus grey with runelord brass for the exposed wires. Next I'm gonna go back and nuln oil wash the cable covering. I went with retributor armour for the chaos icon on the front. I think I need at least one different metallic tone to differentiate metal bits more. There's too much silver and gunmetal. I also used runelord brass and agrax for the autocannon trim and corax white for the eyes.

I also did the horns on the front in xv-88 with agrax wash and fenrisian grey over the ridges for a bigger contrast and also to help those two horns stand out more from the smaller bone growths. I think I'll wash it with nuln oil later to pick it out a bit more.  Next it's time to add the creeping green wash over the bottom of the blue armour that appears on all my truly warp tainted Alpha Legion models.

'tis true, reaction buttons aren't really enough - the scale work elevates this model even further. Will be a great addition to your army.

Thanks so much! Im just excited to finally have dreadnoughts!

Pleased to report the Hellbrute is now mainly done. I added some pro acryll Magnesium on some of the pipework to give some more variation. Then highlighted the torn cables with administratum grey. The organic eyes are imperial fist yellow over white scar. Finally blood angels red for the neo-eye of Horus icon. Then ironbreaker to tidy up the trim. For the scales I also did a downwards vertical highlight with stormhost silver on each scale.

Finally as all truly warp tainted models in my army have, thinned warp lightning over the blue armour towards the bottom of each panel. I also used zandri dust, agrax and ushabti bone for the horns and bone growths. Then finally a highlight of runefang.

There was a tragic accident involving, some thinner,  some boxes and my Deimos rhino which necessitated repainting. Having decided I couldn't be bothered doing the scales again, I've tried to repeat my Deimos predator. I've noticed it's way easier for the paint to pool up on the rhino with those big flat panels. I think next time I might go panel by panel and be extra careful. Also,, I think kroxigor scale/talassar blue mix gives me a slightly more aqua marine blue than talassar/aethernatic blue. The smoke stacks and treads are Vallejo jet exhaust while I did the front two panels in Abaddon black. Partly for visual interest and partly to cover up where the blue paint had pooled badly. I think I'm gonna give this one extra battle damage and decals to help cover it up a bit more.

Added the decals to my Hellbrute and varnished it.

And finally got a good group shot.

Stayed up all night to finally make some progress on the Deimos rhino. I used runefang steel to edge highlight almost everything. The black panels are Abaddon black with administratum grey highlights. While the pipes are Vallejo jet exhaust with thinned gor grunta fur. For the tracks and footguards on the side doors I used gunmetal then nuln oil and rattling grime. Finally I sponged on my usual Vallejo rust formula pigments like with the Deimos predator to hopefully look like red clay or accumulated rusty water the rhino has driven through. It's hard to see in the photo but compared to the Deimos predator while it's close in colour, the predator is noticably more greenish aqua marine. I think the kroxigor scales are stronger than the aethernatic blue. For the headlights I used imperial fist yellow on the searchlight but the blinkers I tried something new gaiacolor fluorescent red after seeing how bright their fluorescent paints can be.

So I have applied the decals to my Deimos rhino. The large flat panels let me get really creative and use the big decals for once. One of the many glorious things about the wonderful nation of Japan, is that it is abundant in Gundam decals so I was able to grab these pre-chipped white alpha-numeric and line sets for a steal. I went with large "A(alpha) L(legion) - Roman Numeral 20" for the roof hatch and "A(alpha) - 02" and "O(mega) - 20 for the door hatches which I'm sure Is a cypher for the rhinos real call designation. I also added the white stripes on the roof because they look cooI....plus I also added some small hazard stripes on the side doors and rear ramp though not the top. (OH and SScreenshot_2026-07-13_173108_209.thumb.jpg.db462709a06e1a62db3be9617e940196.jpg is important but anyone on the roof is either climbing out or trying to break and thus not at risk or a threat).  An honour mark on the left front side I think identifies this Rhino as having once been part of Omegons' retinue while the small hydra and alpha/omega mark the front cabin. Finally, the pie' de resistance : the coiled alpha legion hydra on the back door. I think it needs a little more chipping but I'm mostly happy with how this worked out. And astounded at how happy I am with it from where it started.

Your helbrute and rhino both look great.

I don't think your rhino needs any more chipping, but if you were to add some I would do it on some of the horizontal vents on either side of the smoke stacks, and/or some of the rectangular shapes behind the rear stack.
